Was this the match where Falkirk complained about our ballboys wasting time ? Might have been a season later with Bertie Auld in charge in premier league . Seem to remember us having about 6 home games in a row including Man U friendly with undersoil heating . That was some Hibs team for First Division ( Championship now ) - a lot of them had played for us in UEFA Cup just 2 years before .This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. 18/1/2007 Scottish Cup Round 3 Replay
Hibernian 4 v 1 Aberdeen
Fletcher 13
Stewart 45
Benji 47 56
Aberdeen forced this replay when they scored a last minute goal at Pittodrie and they continued where they left off when Barry Nicholson fired the Dons into an early lead following a neat one two with Steve Lovell
The Aberdeen lead lasted three minutes as Steven Fletcher leapt like a salmon to head home Dean Shiels’ corner kick
The match continued to and fro until the poorly Michael Stewart hit a worldy that crept in just under Langfield’s crossbar from just outside the box following a Shiels corner just on the half-time whistle
Hibs replaced the unwell Stewart and goal maker Shiels with Kevin Thomson and Benji at half-time and what a master stroke that proved to be An early Thomson pass being flicked on by Fletcher into the path of Benji who found himself one on one with Langfield who promptly rounded the keeper and fired home Benji completed the scoring just short of the hour when he picked up an Andy McNeil clearance before teasing Andy Considine and drilling a shot low under the diving Langfield

Don't you just love the pedantry of some of the posts, correcting people's erroneous memories of games long past.
IMO, it's what makes this thread really great.

However, I have a feeling the seated enclosure ( cave) was covered well before the game v Aberdeen when Stanton scored to break Clark’s incredible shut out sequence.

1965: The 'Cowshed' is opened in the North Terrace
In 1965, Easter Road boasted a new covered enclosure in the North Terrace, the structure becoming affectionately known as the 'Cowshed'. The enclosure stood behind the goals at the end of the ground that now houses the Famous Five Stand.
Hamilton Academical arrived at Easter Road on Saturday 6th November 1965 as the first visiting team to play with the new addition at Easter Road. The formal opening of the enclosure was celebrated in style, Hibernian securing their biggest League victory to date by thumping Accies 11-1. It was a monumental day, with the goals spread between Eric Stevenson (3), Jimmy O'Rourke (2), Jim Scott (2), Peter Cormack, Davy Hogg, Joe Davis and an own goal. Stan Anderson netted the Accies consolation.
With the exception of the 'Cowshed', Easter Road Stadium went largely unchanged throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with further major development to the ground not coming until the 1980s.Last edited by superfurryhibby; 18-01-2021 at 12:22 PM.

Remember that 4-1 game v Aberdeen was a smashing match from start to finish, wish we had more games like it.

If you want cheered up on a dreich January afternoon go onto YouTube and watch the highlights of the 4 1 cup tie defeat of Aberdeen.Benji was untouchable (“where did it all go wrong Benji”).It also reminded me of what a top quality player Steven Fletcher was for Hibs.

Given the talent he showed 2006-7, his career massively went downhill. I know injury hit him hard, but he clearly couldn't work with Yogi. He will always be someone who never fulfilled his potential at Hibs.

Like others I was absolutely hooked as a 4 year old when I saw Hibs running out on a dark day with the floodlights on. Those beautiful, classic strips, just looked so good and I couldn't get that out of my head and have been pretty obsessed by Hibs ever since. We should make it compulsory that any Hibby who has a kid should take them to a night game at ER. Get them brainwashed early is my view
