Joe came back from Sunderland I believe. Just spent last 5 minutes why I love this thread for reminders of games like that game against Aberdeen.

I recall as a young kid reading about the return of Joe and the Bobby Clark record in the back pages. Also remember it was a cold day, sitting in the seated enclosure as Stanton then Baker scored...one of the games I recall well even at a young age....

I was one of the paltry 4,000 or so supporters at that Airdrie game in 1982*

I bet, despite his constant boasting about being one of the few Hibbies at badly attended games, even Hermit Crab wasn't at that one...

    * Obviously I was only about two years old at the time... though I did go on the bus on my own :-)

Rob Jones with a header from a Deeks corner

Deeks sealed the points 6 minutes from time with a typical curling effort that clipped the post on the way in

HIBS gave a debut to new goalie Grzegorz Szamotulski

St Mirren Manager Gus MacPherson blamed the state of the Easter Road pitch for his sides defeat post match ?

    17/1/1981 Scottish League Division One

    Hibernian 1 v 0 Falkirk

    Paterson 88

This game was one of only two games to beat the weather thanks to the new undersoil heating

A late Craig Paterson header following a free-kick to open the scoring kicked off a scrap between both benches

HIBS were promoted at the end of the season

An interested spectator was Dunfermline Manager Pat Stanton who HIBS played next in the Scottish Cup

Hibs were without the injured and suspended pair Alex Edwards and John Blackley

Hibs had chances to score either side of Half-time but failed to capitalise

The defence lacked its usual solidity without Sloop

HIBS went down to goals from Derek Parlane and Tommy McLean

    Still a decent side though

He would go on to set a record of 449 League appearances for the club

Billy McNeill and John Hughes replied for Celtic

Hibs put a very good Celtic side under severe pressure for the last 10 minutes but just could not find an equaliser

Arthur found a friend at Easter Road as he had been a team-mate of John Blackley at Gairdoclh United

Hibs Marshall Shevlane Schaedler Blackley Black Stanton Duncan McEwan McBride Graham and Stevenson

    17/1/1953 Scottish League Division One

    Rangers 1 v 1 Hibernian

    Turnbull pen

HIBS spurred on by a large travelling support in the 60500 crowd totally dominated this match but were unable to build on Turnbull’s early penalty Grierson would equalise for Rangers

Hibs lost the League in this season to Rangers on goal average

    17/1/1948 Scottish League Division One

Queen Of The South 0 v 3 Hibernian

    Cuthbertson 25 70
    Linwood 59

Hibs thought they were top after this fantastic result but Rangers scored two very late goals against Motherwell to go top of the League

Hibs would have the last laugh however by winning the League in this season

    17/1/1931 Scottish Cup Round 1

    Hibernian 3 v 1 St Cuthberts Wanderers

    Brown 2
    Main

Hibs struggled against the part-timers from Kircudbright in a strange lacklustre performance

Pagan gave the non-League side an early lead but HIBS did not really threaten until they equalised in the 75th minute

After that the full time training took over

At Easter Road They Play John Campbell

I’ve a cutting somewhere of the fall out after that Falkirk game in 1981. They’d been accused of trashing the changing rooms and throwing food about. John Hagart (who later became a great colleague of mine) is quoted as saying he could “trust his players to have tea with the Queen”.

Any thoughts on what that structure on the main terracing is far to the left of the HT scoreboard, shown just after the 2nd goal? I’ve no recollection of it. About 35 seconds in.

    Dunno what that is?

Reminds me of the wee Stand that they used to have at old Bayview where they had to keep wiping the condensation off the plastic covering

Looks like you accidentally removed the end QUOTE when you replied to Billy (#1208), then all subsequent quoted posts go to pot.

I have a vague memory it might have something to do with the old railway siding/line that was once behind the stadium.

Edit: No. It can't be, it's too high.

Is the structure in question not the gents toilets at the back of the terrace, had an advertising hoarding on its roof. It is just where the "extra" bit of terrace begins

Not as I recall and it doesn’t look like advertising. The toilets never had as much as a roof to my memory.

There was a toilet there, but I'm sure there was a wee snack bar at some point as well.

It might be my imagination but isn't it a sign saying 'Refreshments'?

p.s. Just had another look and I'm talking utter crap (as per).

The Refreshments stand was much lower down and that sign is FAR too big.

I am sure I remember that the game was so bad that the fans that had bothered to turn up were giving it pelters most of the game and even the late winner didn’t prevent the team getting booed off.

Sure that Falkirk draw was the McGinn ''dive'' game where we had a stonewall pen denied and that fud houston called him a diver.

Brog my cousin played in the same team as Ian, Clermiston YMCA. They played in all green strip shorts etc.
I used to go and watch them now n again and remember being at Saughton enclosure when they defeated a team called Qoin Thistle in a cup final
Qoin Thistle were a Catholic Youth club ? and I remember my cousin getting a kick out of beating them as he was a good Catholic boy and being ex St John Vianney and Tony's !
My dad and Ian's dad ran the Clery YMCA Team. Ian was always hard but fair. There were some bad tackles that day by East Fife players but the one that broke John Brownlies leg was not one of them.

It’s definitely not the pie stand so you’re eventually right on that Keith. And the toilets were just a couple of block walls with a trough! I think Jonnyboys take is maybe the one with legs.

Were the toilets not right beside the turnstiles at the bottom of the stairs. So at HT you had to hoof down to car park level, try not to drown in urine and then hoof back up to the terrace all within the 15 break. Then find your mates or get back to where you were standing.
