    Hospitalised.

There is essentially a hospital on site at the White House. If he is being moved then it's serious.
Familiar sequence of events to Boris Johnson. If he ends up even half as seriously affected as the PM it could easily be the end of him, bearing in mind he's a lot older.

At the veery least I can foresee the election being put on hold.

It did Boris Johnson no harm.
Johnson was never a full on denier. He was an idiot with the hospital handshakes etc but he never claimed it was a hoax. And he's not directly encouraging the anti mask brigade.

The conspiracy theories will go nuclear now, and it will addle the brains of his supporters who say COVID is a hoax. They will need new directions from Fox News.

I think Fox has created a little bit of distance from him, and I can't see Pence having the personality to whip up the crazies. They'll be like lab rats when the food buzzer runs out of batteries. Could be dangerous or could fizzle out.

You can just imagine his 1st public appearance after he gets out of hospital:

'I had serious covid. Very serious. I don't know but the doctors told me it was the worst case they had seen. All the other stuff is fake news. But they said listen this guy is a great fighter, really great. My uncle was a scientist so I understand this. Good brains, really great. The doctors, good people, said we'll try the things this guy suggested months ago and they worked. I'm not saying that's all there was to it but that's what I hear, people tell me that.'

I know nothing about the US constitution, but would be surprised if the founding fathers legislated for delays if one of the candidates was unwell.

There’s one from democrat leaning/Trump hating commentators that Trump is faking having Covid, based on the fact he lies all the time.

There isn’t a hope in hell Trump would fake an illness that would quarantine him for possibly weeks thus removing him from his rallies/fundraisers where he gets his ego massaged talking to his base. I don’t understand why everything has to be a conspiracy.

I don't think he's faking it. He has been downplaying/ignoring COVID from the start, so he isn't going to hospitalise himself with COVID now. His getting the virus only underlines what his irresponsible approach can lead to. The sad fact is there has been so much misinformation from Trump (over 16,000 verifiable lies since he became president) that nobody believes anything any longer. It is a sad state of affairs that it's come to this. His constant gaslighting has destroyed trust in the presidency and the media. It's a unique time, in which everything is dismissed as 'fake news'.

Article on it here. It will be messy I think but I can’t see the Democrats allowing a delay to the election.

Nor should they - Clinton was given no delay or mercy when she had pneumonia right before the 2016 election. In fact, Trump used it as a stick to beat her with.

The most annoying thing about this is that he'll just use it as an excuse if he loses.

Trump is more at risk than Johnson. He’s older, fatter and according to his tax returns, he’s also in a low income bracket.

The BBC report I watched said it's possible to delay it by an Act of Congress, but that would require Democrat support so probably unlikely.

However, if Trump's condition were to deteriorate to the extent that he's incapacitated for the length of time the PM was (or worse) I wonder if there would be a more sympathetic response from the Democrats.

Edit: Sorry, just seen you've since posted a link about this.

Pretty sure Pence would step into the role. I think there's a constitutional amendment which sets out the precise procedure.

I was treated with this great medicine, really good, they call it NaOCl. Don't know what that means or even how to pronounce it but it works, it really works, it really cleaned up the virus, if there is a virus, but it cleaned it up real good. They told me it it kills 99% of all known germs.

I think he steps in to the role of president but not the role of candidate. The republicans would need to nominate a new candidate.

i think that’ll be very close to it, really.

That sounds right according to this:

    https://news.sky.com/story/us-electi...-dies-12087574

Hard to see how they could organise a new candidate/ballot in time, especially as there have been many postal votes already cast.

Hopefully it won't come to that. Trump's a bampot but I wouldn't wish the worst on anyone.

Yeah, but remember the postal votes are to be discounted in the event of a Democrat win.
