Detestable Tory part : 23142187429184 Ex-Tory East Dunbartonshire council leader Andrew Polson charged over 'electoral fraud' | The National
5 hrs ago
THE Conservative former leader of East Dunbartonshire council has been charged with alleged electoral offences, police have confirmed.
Andrew Polson co-led the council with LibDem councillor Vaughan Moody from 2018 to 2022, taking over after an SNP minority administration collapsed in 2012.
Police Scotland have confirmed he and his wife Aileen Polson were arrested and charged with offences under the Representation of the People Act 1983 earlier this month.
Brilliant. The daily mail quote a parody Micheal take account

Suella Braverman brands Channel crossings 'an invasion' of England in 'disgusting' comments | The National
She really is a contemptible individual. Playing to the racist base and trying to make that kind of language mainstream.
I remember a clip of Akala (rapper, author, poet, all round good guy) talking about the comments Katie Hopkins made about gun boats in the channel and how alien language like that seemed, and now we have an actual government minister using the same language. Just bizarre.
Deary me. The media have been absolutely full blown pr mode for the tories the last 7 days . Absolute ridiculous, this is basically the same cabinet rejigged that fd the country
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...oters-new-poll
Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives have overturned Labour’s lead in terms of who voters trust most to manage the economy, a new poll for the Observer has revealed.
The new prime minister is currently drawing up tax rises and spending cuts designed to fill a £40bn fiscal hole left by Liz Truss’s disastrous time in Downing Street, with warnings that any significant attempt to cut Whitehall budgets will lead to huge pressure on public services. It comes with new analysis revealing that freezing public service spending would save £20bn but would also lead to a return to the austerity of the 2010s.
Horrible debate this really vile stuff.

Matt Hancock joins this year's series of I'm a Z'leb. No words.
I've not watched this for years. If it's the same format, I suspect he will have huge support from the viewing public who actually waste money voting for people to eat live creatures and all the other really boring stuff. Not going to lie, will watch this year. Want to know why a member of the Royal Family needs this platform? (apologies realise my last point is for another thread)
Andy Drummond, deputy chairman of the West Suffolk Conservative Association, said he was looking forward to seeing Mr Hancock "eating a kangaroo's *****".
Murdering ******* being watched by on average 8-9 million viewers, many of whom waste hard earned cash on pointless phone calls to boost the profits of ITV.
Britain in a nutshell. ****ing pathetic!
The fact an elected member of parliament thinks it’s suitable for him to **** off to a jungle whilst the country is in this mess leaving his constituency behind says it all about the Conservative Party right now.
Shocking.
Was he hoping the Tories wouldn’t suspend him in the same way Labour didn’t suspend Kezia Dugdale when she did it?
Surely, he must have realised there would be a backlash against him for abandoning his constituents like there was for Dugdale.
I see to deflect from the latest round of social murder the government have gone back to their deflection tactic of immigration. After the Romanians, and the Poles before them, their media pals and attack dog Farage are now putting out articles denigrating Albanians. Woe betide if a bigot parrots any of this in front of my Greek-Albanian fiancee.
400k Hancock reportedly getting, ridiculous

Rishi Sunak says he’s on “same page” as Suella Braverman on cutting immigration.
Reminder: the Home Secretary revived a previous Tory pledge to reduce net migration to tens of thousands of people.
She also said it was her “dream” to see a flight take asylum seekers to Rwanda
I agree.
Without commenting on the ins and outs of the policy, her use of language is vile.
It doesn't take much to join the dots from certain phrases appearing in the right wing press and 66 year old men choosing to fire bomb detention centres and kill themselves.
In other times it would be considered disgraceful but it just sort of blends into all the other sorts of disgrace we've had from this government.

Sunak lied last week at PMQs. Wonder if he'll be made to correct the record.
He's certainly living up to the continuity Johnson role.
Oh and another thing. At PMQs today Sunak said that the Tories had "got Brexit done" and "ended freedom of movement", to cheers from the Tory benches. *******s.

Interesting that net migration from non-EU countries has rocketed since Brexit (replacing EU workers). When will politicians admit that we need migrants
I’m not long back from Tenerife and they are also having Brexit problems. They can’t get people from the UK over to work in bars, clubs, restaurants etc. They have started advertising in Ireland instead. Also, there is a real shortage of entertainers as well. Just about every bar was saying the same thing.

Good article, but it won't be heeded. With Tory and Labour both condemning migrants there's no hope for England. Time for us to leave.
Quote:
It may be uncomfortable to discuss, but in light of what’s happening we can no longer pretend there’s no difference in so-called Scottish and English values, at least as far as the treatment of refugees is concerned. What’s happening in England isn’t just morally disgraceful, it’s truly frightening. We’re clearly watching the collapse of decency within a government, and the party in power embarking on a journey that leads god knows where.
https://www.politicshome.com/news/ar...-paid-lobbying
Quote:
The Commons standards committee has recommended that Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen be suspended for five sitting days over his “careless and cavalier attitude" towards rules on lobbying.
The damning report found that Bridgen had failed to declare his relevant interests in the companies Mere Plantations “during eight emails to ministers and in five meetings with ministers or public officials”, despite having "received registrable financial benefits" from the company.
"Mr Bridgen has breached the rules of the House on registration, declaration and paid lobbying on multiple occasions and in multiple ways," the report found."Each of these breaches could have led us to recommend a suspension from the service of the House. "Mr Bridgen has demonstrated a very cavalier attitude to the House’s rules on registration and declaration of interests, including repeatedly saying that he did not check his own entry in the register."
Much of that is hyperbole from Mackay, who doesn't appear to have been anywhere near Manston - and nor do those he has spoken to directly. To be fair, given the state of Scottish newspapers, the Herald may well have refused to sign off on his travel expenses, but it's a lazy piece, typical of journalists who attempt to convey expertise from afar in relation to a situation they know little more about than a well-informed punter.
That's not meant as a defence of the government because something has clearly gone horribly awry there, but is it so surprising that things have slipped out of control when you bear in mind the speed at which migrant numbers crossing the Channel are increasing? We've gone from circa 8,000 in 2020 to 40,000 so far this year. The weekend before last over 1000 crossed in one day. I guess the surge isn't that surprising when you consider that English is the global language, work is relatively easy to find and the UK grants over 75% of asylum claims compared to an EU average of 34%.
One aspect of this I'm struggling to understand is why so many young Albanian men appear to be making the journey (1-2 per cent of the adult male population of the country apparently). Is persecution especially rife there? I thought Albania were currently attempting to join the EU.
40k sounds like a large amount but it would have to reach about 4 million before it made much actual difference to the country, either socially or economically, and at the current rate, that would take 100 years.
The Tories need a bogey man. It used to be the unemployed, it's now asylum seekers.

French far-right MP's 'go back to Africa' cry causes uproar
8 hours ago8 hours ago
A far-right MP shouted "go back to Africa!" as a Black lawmaker spoke about stranded migrants. The member of the anti-immigration National Rally party said he was referring to the migrants and not his fellow MP
The problem is that the 40k this year have, naturally, been accessing the UK via its closest point to Europe. If they were arriving at various ports around the country then yes, it would dilute the impact of such numbers arriving. That's where I think some allowances can be made for the pressure those trying to implement a workable system are under. How would Scotland cope if, say, Fraserburgh was the nearest UK access point for migrant boats?
Thanks. More here on the Albanian drug gangs driving the numbers:

gosh, ya don't say
we can only hope wee Ted is ok :agree:
Interesting straw man if you flesh it out.
If Scotland were independent and say world events/climate change,
/war/criminality led to 40,000 thousand people arriving at Fraserburgh. I would hope whatever govt was in power would listen to their civil service, listen to their security services and have agreements with neighbouring countries to assist in whatever was required.I'm not claiming that's would happen but that seems to be the most logical way to prepare from what I've read.
David Cameron predicted 6 years ago in that if we pulled out of our agreements with the EU there would be 50,000 people arriving at our shores in such a manner. So this version of the govt who have been in power for 12 years have had plenty warning.
