Matthews to rack up a personal best fantasy performance the week we play would indeed be pleasing

Alright lads, I make my big move tomorrow so if I aint aboot for a bit, I apologise.
Definitely worth a gamble as you say, just not as my premiere RB which is what I drafted him as. I thought about keeping him but, and this is hardly scientific, I read different things about when he might be healthy and how long it will take him to become effective. I'm wondering if those "lost" weeks will lose me too many points, so I axed him.
It's a claim system, based on a pre-defined order.
The draft order was chosen based on a competition we had and the argument here is that since those at the end of the draft had to sit and watch all of the good players go before they could pick, that any claim on waiver players (the better players who are openly available) should go in the opposite direction.
Hope that makes sense...
Yes, that makes sense. What doesn't quite make sense is the situation that just happened...that being you getting to pick a player ahead of someone else on the wire. Is that just tough sh*t or should we try and rectify the situation i.e., you take back Sidney Rice and let AyrshireHibs get a chance of first refusal...well, after the other ahead of him on the wire?
I'm not sure how that works, it sounds a little manual. Does the website enforce the waiver order? Do people have to register an interest in a player beforehand so that if they do become available, they get first dibs? It's just not clear to me how we would do this without asking each person in turn if they want a player and then, when it's your turn, you can choose to take the player or pass him over.
I'm not entirely sure how the waiver wire has been initially set tbh - the only thing I can think is that maybe when the players have been inputed manually I was second on the list and that's why I'm ninth in the pecking order. On the subject of Matthews, I'm more than happy with my stable of running backs (Foster, MJD and Forte are all ranked in the top 6) and was only really hoping to use him as future trade bait for an upgrade at WR or a backup QB - TSSF can have him :greengrin
OK.
I really screwed the pooch because I didn't know what I was doing (tactically) which is why I don't have any great players at any position. I just have to hope that some of the lesser players I have come good and some of the studs don't perform as well as expected.
I'm happy to do whatever, I just want to clarify what the approach should be. 49% of me really didn't want to give him up because of his potential....but I don't want him back because I am so weak in that position that I can't afford a passenger (if that's what he turns out to be). Even if he is "ready", how ready will he be? Will other players in the league not know about his injury and potentially target that side when tackling him? So many things I don't totally understand. One thing is for sure, joining this league is going to make me learn more about NFL and take more notice of ALL the games.
Question about the bench and team selection - do you pick your team for a game and that's it? If a player is injured is there a concept of a substitute or is it tough ****? I would think subs would be tough to manage.
Appreciate the gesture but as you said it's not your fault. I'd keep him if I was you :agree: I'm feeling good about my running backs.
You should be able to edit your line up right up until your players' game starts. If they are injured during a game you're unfortunately stuck with them for that week's match up.
Ive traded out WR Kenny Britt, (injury and likely dui suspension) and brought in QB Russel Wilson.
I've also traded out Randy Moss (who has had a very poor pre-season) and taken Nate Washington (WR) Tennessee, who by contrast is having a great pre-season and is being tipped for a record breaking year!
I didnt change the draft order on NFL.com and just input the teams. Sorry guys :violin:
When do the trades end?
Ive traded out Seahawks TE Kellen Winslow and brought in Zach Miller, same position same team.
i've traded out LeGarrett Blount brought in Jaquizz Rodgers.
Remember and have your teams ready for week 1
Maybe I asked this before, when do I have to have my team selected? Is it before the first game of the week and then it's locked in? Or can I pick players that will be in tonight's game and then switch them out in time for Sunday? The latter method seems like you would be able to use more than 11 players so I doubt that is the case. Still, better safe than sorry....
OK. That makes sense. I can pick players that play for either the Giants or the Cowboys tonight and then they are in the team for the week. However, I can make any other changes to the team before the other games start, I just can't take out any players that have already played (I mean their team has already played since a player could be injured or dropped).
1st game tonight! need to decide if Romo will have a better game v the Giants or if i stick with Rivers v the raiders :hmmm: more questions than answers at the mo :greengrin according to the matchups for week 1 my Whodatters are spanking the Late hits :slipper:
According to predictions I'll be third last after week one. I stand no chance. Lol. I'm ready to take all you mother ****ers down. I even made some more tweaks today.
Bring it on, bitches!!
It seems the worries surrounding Rashard Mendenhall are easing significantly and they even reckon he might feature on Sunday, having looked explosive in practices, running with speed and strength.
Ergo, I've taken him on board in place of Isaac Redman as if they two of them are fit, Mendenhall is the obvious starter. Can't believe he was a FA and not on the Waiver wire actually!
Bit of a gamble with BOTH RBs now I guess in Matthews and Mendenhall, but if both get healthy quick and play regularly, it's going to pay off big time!
re: the waiver wire - how does that even work? Is is something we are supposed to setup? I understand the concept, I think :
1. a player is released on waivers, which last something like 3 days,
2. everyone who is interested in him registers that interest,
3. at the end of the allotted time, the player goes to the team in the worst position.
Still learning about all of this but it's pretty entertaining nonetheless.
I think that the allocation of waiver or free agent is entirely dependent on the perceived value of the player.
Each of us has a position on the waiver list (the same order as the draft I think) and so we can all put a claim in on the waivered players and whoever is nearer position 1 (not necessarily the "worst off", which is the argument which arose in light of me stealing Matthews) gets "dibbs" on the player.
I'm not sure if it's dynamic though. For example, I've already successfully obtained a player on waiver request - do I then drop down to the bottom of the order, or is it always the case that the top 5 or 6 players are always most likely to get first shot at such players?
This is the bit I don't get.
On a different topic.....perhaps a silly question but is there any "honour" in this game? I mean, imagine that there are two players (me and you for example) that have players on our bench that could do a job for each other during a bye week. Let's say you want Peyton Manning and I want one of your players. (1) Is it ethical for us to trade those players for the duration of that single week? and (2) if we made such a trade and then you decided to keep Manning, what would happen then? I get the impression that all deals have to be taken at face value but having never played this game before I really don't know how trades work, in an ethical sense.
You've dropped to the bottom of the waiver wire. From looking at the settings it looks like the waiver will be set each week in reverse order of the standings.
The league gets to vote on any trade. If it looks iffy then it can be vetoed
I'm the King of the trash talk on here :take that. So much so I confuse myself sometimes and lose total track of where I'm at and what I'm saying :greengrin. Mind you, It's normally more about them MICHIGAN MUPPETS than the PATSIES .

I would reply DH but it is too easy to make fun of a Jessie! Especially with Teballs on your team! :aok:
Can you guys access the NFL fantasy site? It doesn't appear to be recognising my login. It's not that I can't login, I can, but I can't access my team or our league.
EDIT : It's ok now, just REALLY slow to connect to subscriptions.nfl.com
Every time I click on Waiver Report it tells me there is nothing to display. I would think it should say who is on waivers but I've never seen a player that has been dropped listed yet.
EDIT : OK, figured that out now. Click on Add players and then select On Waivers.
Gotta love the bravado of the Pats fans on here. Never mind the fact that the last time we played you in a game that actually mattered we OWNED you in your own backyard (with our incumbent QB, WR and TE)
Here's to giving you a spanking in the AFC East and in the Hibs.Net fantasy league.
J E T S JETS JETS JETS!
Now now children :greengrin
:greengrin - ahhhh - it's great that football is back
As an aside, who has Arian Foster in their team? Better take him out for this weekend!
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/83...-miss-practice
It's def been deleted as was on here when I posted it. It was a little risky but funny in a good way :aok: and nowhere near as bad as half the stuff I'd love to post on here. Really didn't think it would be a problem when you consider someone was calling us all bitches :tee hee:.
What ever gave you the idea he was a Jets fan? Is it that he's had a picture of the best corner in football as his avatar? And to think, you don't know something as simple as that :yw:.
OH YEAH.

Keep them coming guy's :greengrin.
I put peterson on the bench as everyone saying it was looking like he was out and he has an amazing day
Isn't that just the way. :-)
I was very impressed with Ridley, Lloyd and Pats D yesterday.
Disastrous week 1 to be honest.
It wouldn't have changed the outcome any but I had switched Gonzalez and Pettigrew over on Friday so Gonzalez should have been in my starting team.
Seems it hasn't work for some reason. Wouldn't have mattered anyway - DH well and truly spanked me :greengrin
(Barring a bloody miraculous performance from Robert Meachem and Sebastian Janikowski this evening).
OK, more questions. RTFM? Not I. ;)
How important are the weekly matchups in comparison to overall score? I mean, if I win by 1 point is that better than winning by 100 points? Are points like goal difference, in other words, the most important thing per week is win your matchup but you want to score as many points while doing so?
If my waiver priority is 1 out of 10, why do I need to wait until Wednesday morning to make Add/Drop a player....anyone know?
could it be because the gameweek isn't over yet (still games tonight) so no transfers can happen just now?
Edit: I guess if you have other waivers in which are due before your request then the waiver order could change, i.e. You have two waiver requests in now, 1 due Tuesday, 1 due Wednesday, if you were successful with the one due Tuesday then you'd drop to the bottom of the order for the Wednesday one.
On your other point, I think you are right, points would be used a decider if required at the end of the season to decide the play offs. Most important thing is a win though, which I managed.... ;-)
C'mon the BAWBAGS . I can now retire from fantasy football safe in the knowledge that I beat a Michigan loving Patsie :smug: and hopefully its an indication of things to come this year between our teams.
(By the way, I've still got 2 or 3 players playing tonight)
Stafford killed me this week. No point throwing for all those yards if you're gonna throw 3 picks as well :grr:
That and the Bills' D but I won't complain about that one :greengrin
You're right, there's no real rush. I just like to have things "settled" so to speak so that I can plan other roster moves, if any. This is my first year playing fantasy football and now I am regretting never playing it before. It's a lot of fun, already, and I like the wheeling and dealing. Yeah, the draft felt sucky because I was so low and didn't know what was going on (and my "stud" RB got injured in preseason) but I'm learning quickly that everything is not all it seems. Players come out of nowhere and others disappear. And then injuries too. Playing the Yahoo Pro Pickem got me slightly more into football over the years but this has me paying attention.
I was surprised at how quiet the Pats kept Welker. I think the Pats are in a really good situation. People expect(ed) the ball to go to Gronk and Welker. But it goes to Lloiyd and Hernandez instead. Cover those guys instead? It goes back to Welker and Gronk. We're spoiled for choice for receivers at the moment.
I'm beginning to wonder if they're trying to phase Welker out of the club to be honest.
All of this talk about non-renewal of his contract, followed by very limited pre-season and then little targets yesterday.
He's an undoubted talent, but he's become very mouthy and quick to resort to trash talking in recent years which isn't really the "Patriot way".
I know exactly what you mean and the Pats don't give a crap about how good a player USED to be, they only care about "what can you do for me today?". I'm not as deeply immersed in football as others are but the most recent example I can think of is when they let go of Seymour. I loved that guy but obviously the Pats thought that his usefulness had come to an end. It's like they play a player until he's peaked and then let him go, even if there is a slight risk that the guy might have one more good season left in the tank. They don't seem to get too emotional about cutting players. We also have Edelman as well, a "poor man's" Welker. I kinda like it to be honest. Lots of teams have stars and studs but that's not the Patriots way either (Brady aside).
No single player is bigger than the team and Brady exemplified that a few years ago when he negotiated his deal a few years ago.
Can't believe how much I crushed you by. Just goes to show, you should never pay attention to the NFL forecast. They had you down as beating me. Jesus, even Malcolm Floyd paid of against Meachem :greengrin.
What's going on with the fixtures? After next week, I've no one else to look forward to beating.
And my team of "no hopers" delivered the second highest crushing defeat. Long may it continue!!
As for the schedule, when I go to this page : http://fantasy.nfl.com/league/897370
I can see the Scoreboard on the right with arrows / links to go from week to week. Is that what you're looking for / missing? Even when I click through the schedule I see the, well, the upcoming schedule.
Week 3 : You vs Me. :D
Dumb question #12 : does it "really" matter who you're playing on a week to week basis or is that just to make it more exciting? I mean, aren't we all just concerned with picking the best players based on their individual matchups?
@Sergio - You're next. :na na:
Bring it :-D
Doesn't really mater who your playing week in week out. I just like to trash talk, especially against the patsies. Unfortunately for Scott he smashed 50 mirrors and walked under 50 ladders as a kid so has the misfortune of being a Wolverine and a Barca fan as well as a patsie, so he takes the brunt of it. He's a good one really and knows that 9 out of 10 times I'm only playing and taking the P :aok:. Don't know what I'll do after week 3 :greengrin.
tried to sign up ogletree on the waiver list but seems someone wanted him too, no names mentioned but im playing against you this week
I don't believe that you should carry 2 Ds at all. Along with kickers, it's the least important position in the game. The benefit you get from having a top D compared with a mediocre one is minimal. Most of the time, you're better off with another RB or WR. Why carry a spare D when you might have had Michael Bush?
Always makes me smile when people start taking Ds in the 7th round.
I figured I would try and prepare for week 7 (that's when both my QBs have their bye week). So what did I do? I do a little (flawed) research and sign Matt Cassel. Guess what his bye week is? LOL. Now I have that filthy jester Sanchez.
It matters a lot. If NFL.com's projections are right, I'd end up with the second highest score this week but would still lose as I'm playing the Late Hits who are projected to have the highest. Don't read much into projections but it is possible to have an excellent week and lose or a nightmare and still win due to the matchup!
But there's nothing you can do about what the other team earns in points, right? That's why I was saying that surely the best thing to do is assemble the best team you possibly can, regardless of who your actual opponent is. Maybe I'm missing a subtlety here.
I've been looking at the projections and I don't really think they mean much at this early point in the season. Somethings don't add up. I have Peyton as my starting QB over Vick. I was going to make this switch anyway but it's also a recommendation made by the Guru feature. However, the projections have Vick earning more week 2 points than Manning so there's a conflict there.
Greg Jennings inactive tonight, you've got an hour Haymaker!
