Clinton’s backing Harris.[emoji106]

Some typically unclassy comments from the blob that is Trump. It's utterly incomprehensible that people can vote for this madman.
With the Clintons backing Harris it really cant be anyone else now without a **** show at the convention.
Both they and the Obama's would've played a big part in convincing Biden his time was up. I expect a statement from Barack will soon appear
It's correct that Biden steps aside but is the US ready to vote for a black woman as President?
I'm not sure it is.
I think it’s all about the VP pick now. Only one to watch now is Newsome. He can’t be VP so may feel he wants to go for it but I really doubt it. He won’t have the backers, money or time to mount an effective campaign against Harris at such short notice. He has plenty time in future.

Obama statement is out but tellingly he doesn't endorse anyone
Obama issues a statement. No backing for Harris in it.
I know they are biased but CNN has been pretty informative tonight.
Fox News in us is horrific. Full on Harris bashing. Campaign will be utterly vile.
I think she jumps up once nominated as people usually do. All his material about Biden being old is getting ripped up incase it's used against him. I don't think he'll like the debates against a trained lawyer, definitely a race is on

CNN Poll of Polls
June 28-July 18
POTENTIAL 2024 ELECTORATE
Choice For President
NO CLEAR LEADER
Trump 48%
Harris 47%
(This is CNN’s average of six most recent national polls, conducted after the debate.)
They need to stop using national polls. They should just poll the main purple states as that is where this will be won and lost. Harris will rack up millions of extra votes in California and Trump will do the same in Texas but it won’t change much either way. Both candidates will be focussed on key states that are in play to flip either way.

DaveF made the point a few pages back - she needs to overcome being a woman/person of colour in what is still a misogynistic and racist political system...obviousy Obama proved it's not impossible, but I'm concerned being a woman will go against her for many.
But she is a safer, and more logical choice (from a campaign fund perspective if nothing else!) than any other possible candidates.
Pelosi and Jeffries backing Harris now. Hard to see anyone standing against her now.

Twitter and the American right is a complete abomination
I tend to stay away from Twitter now but I have the odd peak and it's such a sad read
Zero compassion or humanity about it

Harris impressive in that speech there.[emoji106]
Nice to see a candidate with some life.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/othe...2ea1da842&ei=7 A Zoom event with 44,000 Black women supporting Kamala Harris reportedly raised $1.5 million.
Notice Trump has reverted to type with a nasty personal attack on Harris, his turning a new leaf since the assination attempt didn't last long.

I’m still confident Trump loses and that this guy hurts him more than helps.

I fear with the rise of Trump's mate Nigel, that we probably won't be too far away from stuff like that being normalised here. The 'funny' thing is, a lot of the people coming out with or supporting this sort of thing seem to be 'extreme' Christians and will probably be the sort that describe people following 'extreme' Islam as terrorists. They are essentially extreme Christian terrorists.
The first time round, I think he was also hampered by his lack of experience and knowledge of government and how things work, and couldn't carry out some of his grimmer plans. He's said that this time, he'll be replacing governmet lawyers and key officials with loyalists.
Trump picked Vance because he promised to do what Pence wouldn't.

Decent start but need purple state polls.

Looks like Kennedy hurts Trump more than Harris. Not surprising.

Trump could be regretting picking Vance who he picked when expecting to face Biden. I saw someone say tough you can't abort you need to have him to full term..
https://newrepublic.com/post/184106/...-kamala-harris
Vance is the least liked VP nominee (non-incumbent) since 1980 following his/her party's convention. The average since then has been plus 19, Vance is negative 6 ouch
Watching Trump speech on CNN just now and I had forgot just how bad he is. The man is a clown.

Democrats need 3 of these to win. Democrat convention usually brings a bump. A vice president pick from one of these states will help too. Certainly not over already

Georgia: Trump 48%, Harris 46%
Michigan: Trump 46%, Harris 45%
Pennsylvania: Trump 48%, Harris 46%
Wisconsin: Trump 47%, Harris 47%
Yep, the man just bumbles endless, incoherent nonsense, e.g.
"They’re coming not just from South America, but from Africa, from Asia, from the Middle East. They’re coming from everywhere. They’re coming from all over the world from prisons and jails, mental institutions, and insane asylums!
You know, they go crazy when I say the late great Hannibal Lecter, ok? They say, “Why would he mention Hannibal Lecter? He must be cognitively in trouble.”
No, no. These are real stories. Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lamb. He’s a lovely man. He wants to have you for dinner. He’d like to have you for dinner."
I mean, WTAF!

Watching Harris give a speech after her meeting with Netanyahu and it was like she was already President. The more she presents herself like that will be a massive help.
And what she said was better than Biden as well.

28% of Undecideds say immigration is the biggest factor for them which shows why build a wall is winning votes, 57% of republicans, 10% Dems.
2.8 million crossed the border illegally last year but many were also caught. Net migration was about 1.5 million in the US. The US population is 5 times ours and we had net migration of 800k a few years ago. Surprised immigration hasn't been a bigger issue here, Farage with his few seats and the same as vote share as UKIP a decade ago.
Because as aging western societies immigration being a bad thing is a misnomer.
We need young working age people to do the **** jobs, pay their taxes, spend in our economy and pay into our pension pots (again pay taxes).
Ralphie May (RIP) makes a great point. Who will pick your salads if it weren’t for Mexicans? Without Mexicans your Caesar Salad would cost $30!
America needs immigrants for its economy to work. The country was founded on immigration. Yet now it’s been told that it’s “full up”. Nonsense.
J
The stupidity of some of them on immigration is that native Americans have been told to go back to where they came from. 🙄

Just back from the West coast and I was surprised (not pleasantly) to see how many Trump baseball caps being worn and Trump merchandise being sold in shops
seriously, wtf is wrong with this old man https://x.com/meralhece/status/1817443402100756602 Trump: We will be creating so much electricity that you'll be saying, please, please, president, we don't want any more electricity. We can't stand it. You'll be begging me. No more electricity, sir. We have enough. We have enough. he's a total freakazoid
exit polls were saying Maduro opposition way ahead, now amazingly it looks like he's won :bitchy: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz5rj2mzgevo The head of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, who is a close ally of Mr Maduro, said that with 80% of votes counted, President Maduro had 51.2% of the vote, compared to 44.2% for his main rival. The Venezuelan opposition has alleged widespread fraud in the counting of votes, and has vowed to challenge the result. this is freakin awful everyone thinking Maduro was out https://x.com/mjfree/status/1817723292255735924 and https://x.com/Out5p0ken/status/1817763945387635087
As much as I dislike the opposition leader the vote was ridiculous. All the independent polls had the opposition 60% to 30% on average. For the result to be the opposite of that is ridiculous. South American elections are something else ha
Antony Blinken calls it out and the left wing leader of Chile says the result is hard to believe in any serious way and Chile won't honour the result
The ‘Weird’ messaging is really working. What a difference Harris is making after just one week.

Earlier this year, the Democrats did a survey of 'gettable' non-Trumpy, non-election-denying voters in a few of the swing states, and a very comfortable majority of the people questioned had not heard the threats Trump was making about suspending the constitution, using the forces of law and order or military to oppress his political opponents etc... And there has been a huge amount of learned discussion about the paths to autocracy being laid and comaprisons made with elsewhere and with our own experience of the past... the planned dismantling of institutions that Americans depend on... how this is likely to affect normal Americans... false equivalency in the media, and so on. People either aren't hearing the stuff that's being said by Trump and the pantomine villains who are advising him - out loud and in the open! - , or they aren't hearing or relating to the opposition to it, or they don't see why they shoud care. If an appeal to reason and conscience isn't going to work, maybe pointing and laughing is the answer?
I think that everyone who sees Trump as a threat to democracy may already be on board after 8 years of him being on the scene and this new tact may just be working in bringing a few more over.
It’s hard to vote for someone who is becoming a national joke (hence Biden being stood down) and it won’t take much to portray trump and Vance as deeply unserious people.

Only seen some snippets online but looks like Trump had a nightmare of an interview with three ladies from the National Association of Black Journalists, made himself look quite foolish
her campaign, thus far, has been an absolute tour de force, which was not what i was expecting. massive credit to her and her team :aok:
hopefully, if she gets in, she can bring about an actual, proper green new deal that would chase fascism away from the gate.
Just checked the Olympic Medals table for shooting and it goes a long way to explaining why the Orange One is still breathing.
