exit polls were saying Maduro opposition way ahead, now amazingly it looks like he's won https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz5rj2mzgevo The head of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, who is a close ally of Mr Maduro, said that with 80% of votes counted, President Maduro had 51.2% of the vote, compared to 44.2% for his main rival. The Venezuelan opposition has alleged widespread fraud in the counting of votes, and has vowed to challenge the result. this is freakin awful everyone thinking Maduro was out https://x.com/mjfree/status/1817723292255735924 and https://x.com/Out5p0ken/status/1817763945387635087

As much as I dislike the opposition leader the vote was ridiculous. All the independent polls had the opposition 60% to 30% on average. For the result to be the opposite of that is ridiculous. South American elections are something else ha

Antony Blinken calls it out and the left wing leader of Chile says the result is hard to believe in any serious way and Chile won't honour the result

JD Vance suggesting women be prevented travelling between states so they can’t avoid abortion ban.

And yet he is one of the swivelled eyed mob screaming about 15minute cities when these just about being able to walk to the shops!!!

If that's a major factor then I find it a bit baffling – are people just not paying attention until it's directly pointed out to them? Not complaining obviously.

Earlier this year, the Democrats did a survey of 'gettable' non-Trumpy, non-election-denying voters in a few of the swing states, and a very comfortable majority of the people questioned had not heard the threats Trump was making about suspending the constitution, using the forces of law and order or military to oppress his political opponents etc... And there has been a huge amount of learned discussion about the paths to autocracy being laid and comaprisons made with elsewhere and with our own experience of the past... the planned dismantling of institutions that Americans depend on... how this is likely to affect normal Americans... false equivalency in the media, and so on. People either aren't hearing the stuff that's being said by Trump and the pantomine villains who are advising him - out loud and in the open! - , or they aren't hearing or relating to the opposition to it, or they don't see why they shoud care. If an appeal to reason and conscience isn't going to work, maybe pointing and laughing is the answer?

It's like the discussion of the UK exiting the ECHR here. No one in the msm discusses the full repercussions of this. It's framed in context to migrants but the ECHR covers so many rights we take for granted.

I think that everyone who sees Trump as a threat to democracy may already be on board after 8 years of him being on the scene and this new tact may just be working in bringing a few more over.
It’s hard to vote for someone who is becoming a national joke (hence Biden being stood down) and it won’t take much to portray trump and Vance as deeply unserious people.

You're probably right. Maybe they need to take the same approach to some of his wild 'policy' ideas.

Type ‘stop calling us weird’ on Twitter search for some fun Maga scrolling.
Harris is proving to be a very smart campaigner.

Only seen some snippets online but looks like Trump had a nightmare of an interview with three ladies from the National Association of Black Journalists, made himself look quite foolish

Cringed myself inside out watching that. How can those journalists sit there and listen to this?!

her campaign, thus far, has been an absolute tour de force, which was not what i was expecting. massive credit to her and her team

hopefully, if she gets in, she can bring about an actual, proper green new deal that would chase fascism away from the gate.

I think they were letting him tie himself in knots tbh, the clips I’ve seen they were challenging him on the language used by him, his supporters and republicans, they challenged the DEI angle that his people have been pushing,

Just checked the Olympic Medals table for shooting and it goes a long way to explaining why the Orange One is still breathing.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz chosen as VP old fashioned 60yo Midwesterner. He one in a heavy republican seat but was very no nonsense whilst being liberal. Introduced free school lunches, legalised marijuana, pro abortion legislation and tighter gun controls

He’s very folksy. I’m surprised they went for him but have to admit he has impressed when I’ve seen him.
