I think they'd scrape 11th or 10th mate. Playing bottom 6 with the teams around them I reckon they'd have enough. I also think officials would be very kind and be influenced during their home games - which is what I see regularly when I work there. Last week for example Don Robertson couldn't wait to give them decisions. I agree with Brooster, (about the derby) against us they were awful but we compounded it by being worse - which was completely unacceptable - they were there for the taking but we went in over confident. Nothing about pressing, we just didn't match the work rate.

Still think they have enough to get past Hamilton and St. Mirren (and County).

Can't see that being decided so early as bound to be loads of teams having a major issue with that. Personally think all the games need to be played whether that is in June or not. Teams could easily challenge a half assed decision imo. Would clubs not all need to vote on this.

I think a provisional decision could be made subject to playing the games before a deadline, which is likely to be the end of May if that is when contracts run out.

There would then be plenty of time for a challenge to be brought, but if the decision is legal under the rules of the competition then a challenge would probably fail on the grounds that the clubs signed up to the rules at the start of the season.

Guess all they could do is call the rest of the matches draws if thats what they had to do.

I am completely in agreement that sumer football is the way forward so extend the season and let's see how much we enjoy going to more matches in the half decent weather.

It’s got to be summer football.. play June July and sort out next season later.. this one must be completed you can’t just bin 30 odd matches as if they didn’t happen..

The main problem with that is that a lot of player contracts will finish at the end of May, and I don’t think the current rules allow you to bring in additional players for what would be the “current” season.

This. Theres a date far beyond TDD where players can be signed but not played until the next season. So the majority out of contract will re-sign temporarily to compete the current season. Those that dont are either being paid by the new club and dont need the cash or are being let go in any case with the club willing to let them go. Trying to renegotiate contracts in the current climate would indicate the player or their agent is more trouble than they are worth or are Florian Kamberi....

Basically what most of the wiser heads on here were calling for. A decisive pragmatic outcome that affords both pay outs of prize money and for clubs to be able to plan ahead for next season cleanly in absense of confusion. Good shout.

Greater good for the benefit of the leagues in general if that happens. Tough times require difficult decisions. Its not ideal but necessary given the extreme circumstances we find ourselves in I'm afraid to say.

There’s no guarantee in football that any teams in the playoffs would be promoted. The only guarantee is bottom relegated top promoted.

Irrespective of the fact it's the yams going down this is by far the most practical solution. The PM is correct to shut down any arguments about such relative trivialities to focus on the bigger picture.

I've no idea about the English Championship or what will happen there. My opinion is that the placings should stand as is here in Scotland if no more football is to be played whereby solving most of the critical issues allowing a clean break from this one that's been blighted due to the extremely unfortunate pandemic. Hearts are bottom for a reason and its really just a tough break for them that they currently occupy automatic relegation at the time of the season prematurely ending. Its for the greater good of the Scottish game no more no less.

I think league reconstruction is the right and smart move.

I don’t think Hearts can complain about being relegated, they’ve been the worst team in the league, if we aren’t changing the structure of the league then Dundee Utd have to come up and someone had to go down, there’s no question that has to be Hearts.

It’s probably not ideal but neither is the corona virus.

I wouldn't trust that rag to give the correct date in their header.

The only precedent we have at the moment is from Chile, where due to civil unrest their league was abandoned 30 matches in to a 36 game season, or thereabouts.

The top side were declared champions, there was no relegation.

Given this is now a worldwide problem but with the epicentre of covid19 and football in Europe I'd expect FIFA to take a lead from whatever UEFA decide.

We'll maybe get something on Tuesday after their meeting. Only kidding - there's not been time for brown envelopes to be dished out.

I heard the discussion on radio too. It was the BBC's Kheridine Itsan and he said the SPFL's current position is: they would prefer fixtures to be concluded but if that is not possible, their preference is for current positions to stand.

I don’t see how we can promote teams but not relegate others

For example the teams in the championship have as good an argument for promotion as the top tier teams not being relegated.

Let’s be honest here. We wouldn’t be nearly as pragmatic if it was us in their position.

At this point, football is one of the hot topics, but it depends what happens. If this virus largely peters out, then the rage and fury about the season and how it should end will ramp up. If it drags on for months and hundreds of thousands at minimum die, you’d think people will largely stop caring.

It would be ideal to finish the season, if they can’t, it should count from where it was. I think that’s the only position that can be held legally without potentially voiding season tickets, sponsors contracts, the tv deal etc. Then attention will need to shift towards next season, what format should it take if it can’t start on time etc.

Also, a Europe wide position on this would be preferable, if some leagues void, some stop, some have no relegation that’s going to make things even more awkward.

It would be nice if there was a former hibs chairman in charge of the SFA making a decision whether or not to relegate the yams....

I don’t think anybody knows. I doubt whether a blanket decision from UEFA would keep every association happy.

In the UK we may be a little easier considering Liverpool and Celtic are pretty far ahead and we only have a quarter of games left. Other leagues may be a point or two with games in hand for chasing teams etc.

In the UK, it’s an absolute no brainer for me to declare Celtic and Liverpool winners and relegate hearts. Haven’t looked at the English relegation fight but ultimately there is no solution to keep every team in Europe happy so there has to be a compromise somewhere and current positions seems to be the simplest way.

We are forgetting that in the SPL there are teams still in the hunt for Europe and top 6 and that means more money so the implications of this postponement are not just affecting those winning or being relegated.

A big benefit to ending the season now with current placings standing is they can payout the prize money, which some clubs will desperately need and could be the difference between their survival and them going bust.

If it goes to a vote does it not need to be a 11-1 minimum majority to be passed? You could expect Hearts to be against it and possibly Rangers. The only other team that might have a grievance could be Aberdeen for the guaranteed Euro spot for 3rd though they'll qualify if they or Celtic win the cup. Can't see the cup getting scrapped but if it did then the final Euro spot would go to Aberdeen for 4th place. Wouldn't think Aberdeen would block it but wouldn't be surprised if it was Rangers who did.

They should definitely close the season now and relegate the thieves. It will then give the Duncans the chance to bleat that they weren't really relegated and they might even be able sing about it in at Morton, Partick and Dunfermline.

The SPFL need the govt to order the stop so that they can trigger insurance and officially end the league. Without an official order they would be open to legal challenge. The SPFL and EPL will be asking the govt for this so they can get on with distributing money and planning for next season.

Is it not the case that a legal challenge against the governing body is against UEFA rules results in removal of license to play? Or is that only if the case is against the SFA?

It’s only nonsense if you think this virus is nothing to worry about and we should restart football? Otherwise, football is gone until at least July. The clubs can’t afford to start the new season late because that’s when their income comes in so the need this season finished. It all makes perfect sense.

If you use average points it deals with the games in hand arguement.

I get that it's going to feel unfair on some clubs but there needs to be a conclusion and the will be winners and losers with that.

Hearts can feel agrived all they want but they've only got themselves to blame for being four points adrift and the worst team in the league for well over a year

We'll obviously follow what happens in the EPL. As we always do. And just can't see them saying bottom three are relegated.

Villa have a game in hand which could see them safe and Bournemouth are in the bottom three of goal difference!

That rule is so open to interpretation though. The rule does not specify a number, it simply says “following the completion of all league matches in the premiership in that season”

If the league says all league matches are now complete and the season is over the can relegate the 12th placed team.

I think there is a rule defining a season which says when the first competitive game is played until the last competitive game or when the committee decides. Something like that.

I’m other words, the committee can define that the 19/20 season ends when they like and therefore when that newly defined season is complete, the bottom club at that time can be relegated.

There's be about 200 champions if they decided to award titles to the clubs whose players fought for their country.

Relegating teams that spent cash that belonged to charities seems fair enough though.

Why 14? Dundee and Ayr will rightly argue that Inverness are only in a play-off spot.

They won't expand the league because it will compromise the four Old Firm games a season.

Probably the fairest way tbf. Although it's a bit sad that people have no problem giving the title to the team at the top of the table but have a problem relegating the bottom team, it's ultimately the same rules that decide both outcomes. There's a whiff of hypocrisy about it.

I’ve suspected all along that this would be deemed the most ‘inoffensive’ solution. Because the situation is so serious and unprecedented, the Dundee/Ayr objections and more so, the Old Firm 4 games per season will be given the bum’s rush for a period of time anyway ( every cloud has a silver lining ). Let’s face it, expansion of the league has been debated for long enough and cowtowing to the Old Firm has prevailed. This might be a chance to really reconstruct the leagues.

Only because we'd be the relegated club, and that self interest would distort our view of what is fair.

If the bottom three read St Mirren 29, Ross County 29 and Hamilton 27, then we'd agree that the sensible thing to do is relegate the bottom club when they have already had 30 games to save themselves.

If the league is decided on average points then St Johnstone would be in 6th and we would be 7th. So a decision to end the league now would cost us prize money.

However I still think that we this should be the way forward.

Null and voiding the season is just a nonsense decision. We are over 75% of the way through the season.

Hearts fans are just grabbing any liferaft that will stop them sinking. I bet if Hamilton were bottom they would all be saying tough and good riddance.

The situation is completely unprecedented. Whatever decision is made there will be disgruntled clubs and fans.

I think most of the Football Associations are looking for FIFA/UEFA to make the decision as it takes away the flak they may/will receive in their respective countries.

TOO much money at stake here expect a decision VERY soon and it will be season finished league positions as they are (they will need to come up with a solution/formula for play offs but that is the LEAST of their problems and will get sorted). Current leaders - Champions, current bottom side(s) relegated.

How many fixtures would a 14 team league create, bearing in mind the season might not start till September. Will it be play each other 3 times then split 7/7 or play each other twice then split 7/7. Or play each other twice.

Not going to happen the restructure argument has been raised virtually every year since Premiership was established, it has been shot down every time.

Additionally, clubs have next seasons ST ready for sale based on 12 team leagues.

Of course, Hertz and teams in similar positions all over the world, will hope & pray for a null & void season or restructure of leagues etc however, the only fair way (to the majority) is bring the season to an end NOW and current league positions apply. Cups - well the respective organisations will come up with a means of completing these competitions ONCE it is clear that football can restart (July/August hopefully but could be later).

The perennial debate on restructuring has been conducted in ‘normal’ circumstances. The present crisis is a completely different ball game and hard, unpopular decisions are going to have to be made. Traditional old firm monopoly might take a back seat for the foreseeable future.

This would probably be the final straw for me with Scottish Football if they did this.

How can you change the structure with no prior plans to do so.

Fine do it in a years time (promote more) but this time to suit a few clubs would be a shambles.

With 8 games left, voiding the season would be shocking. Different if we'd only played 8 games.

Restarting the season? Well how long is a piece of string? Could be weeks/months before a restart at by which point players run the risk of injury because they haven't trained and contracts will have expired etc.

With 30+ games played we should be canceling the season now with average points calculated and voiding the Scottish Cup. There are more pressing matters than football right now.

Initially I thought this too. There would be complications such as players registrations/cup tied/suspensions to take into consideration though. If we sign players for next season could they play? What if we lose Rocky and Bogdan and bring in St Mirren/Killie keeper would he be suspended? Celtic sign Cosvrove in the summer and he plays in last years semi for Celtic against the sheep? I think it would just be cancelled, saying that money talks.
