The State Department has lifted restrictions on contact with Taiwan.
That's really gonna piss off the Chinese. 😁 Probably won't be the last of the F-youse from Trump over the next week.

You don’t want to talk about collusion but it could well be.
A mix of passive and subconscious. Not being funny but we have clear evidence that Police find it easier to brutalise people of colour and people who’s views they don’t agree with.
Washington DC’s unique governance makes swift reaction to unrest difficult. Federal v surrounding states (Virginia and Maryland) law i for cement and National Guard.
Then there’s the hesitation that comes from the fact the PRESIDENT egged these people on.
All adds to a much softer approach.
Compare the direct order that Trump gave to crack skulls so he could pose with a Bible (WTF was that BTW. I’m convinced the Can’t has never read it and doesn’t have the attention span to try).
Night and day.

Hopefully we'll never find out, but despite their training, the military are human beings and will be well aware of what's going on in and around the Whitehouse.
If it was a retaliatory strike, I imagine they would act first then ask questions, but we're talking about a brand new initiative, never previously discussed against a target which is posing no imminent threat.
They'll also know that Pelosi has asked for the codes to be kept away from Trump. I wouldn't be surprised if the President elect didn't weigh in. He may already have done so privately.
PS I won that hypothetical argument... BY A LOT!
Biden’s response to that stunt was to suggest that rather than hold the Bible (upside down) as a weapon he would have been better opening it and having a read.
He has been asked questions about the content that confirms he has almost certainly never read it, so you are spot on BH.

I thought it was well weighted and got the balance right. Conan's sword will have pleased Arnie fans as that was his first film and the point he made was strong.
The halfwits in Qanon etc will understand the message given that they respect weaponry so much! We'll, maybe not, but overall the video didn't miss anyone and it will give support to other republicans who were sickened by what happened.
In a "I like watching car crashes" sort of way, I almost wish the fascist still had his Twitter account so I could enjoy the rage.

Happened to be watching Sky when this was aired live the other day. If you've got a few minutes to spare it's worth watching from start to finish. It's simply great TV!

Some very big companies withdrawn finance to the Republican Party. If that keeps up then they may move against Trump this week. Money talks.

Further proof if required that those who stormed the Capitol are terrorists.
A BLM protest gets the national guard, terrorists storming a cornerstone of American democracy doesn't.
Spot on. The hypocrisy at heightened times like these is distasteful. At the other end of the spectrum, few were fooled by the sudden celebrity clamour to be seen to be the most 'right on' at the height of the BLM protests.
This attempt to remove Trump from office a few days before his tenure comes to an end also smacks of being PR led, bearing in mind it has no chance of success. The Democrats should be careful what they wish for or they'll end up making a martyr out of him. Just let him leave the White House and doubtless (along with a good number of the 75 million or so who voted for him) adopt the mantle of being 'the real president in exile'. Even in the unlikely event he were to run again in 2024 as a Ross Perot type candidate he'd only split the Republican vote and ensure a Democrat win.
Amazon seemed to suddenly think that their moderation wasn’t strong enough.
Never seen it myself either but I can only assume this is nothing new for that app and Amazon only found their delete button through the fact that the spotlight was now shining on them and their hosting of it after it had been binned from the app stores.
Yes, I agree. I just get the impression that the Democrats are approaching this as a more of an opportunity to showboat rather than punishing him in any way that will matter to somebody of Trump's mentality.
I also think Germany and France have a point when calling into question the way the social media giants have gone about things:

More power slipping away from him. Trump org has only months to go now I think.

This is more a point on US Politics in general, but I was just reading the flowery tributes to some guy called Sheldon Adelson, that just passed away aged 87, from various Republicans like George W Bush, Mitch McConnell and Trump Jr.
Apparently he was "A Great American", "A Great Patriot", etc.
This made me curious as to who he was and why they loved him so much and it turns out he was a massive donor to The Republican Party.
Apparently, paying US Politicians to influence their policies makes somebody "A Great American" and "A Great Patriot".
I would actually have called that Bribery of People in Public Office, but what do I know...
p.s. Incidentally, he has also been described by the same people as "A Friend of Israel" and that "The US-Israel relationship was stronger because of him", but that's a subject fraught with pitfalls and anybody discussing it is in danger of being labelled an Anti-Semite... so I'm not going there ;-)
Sounds like he's learnt his lesson.....

This is why America isn’t the great bastion of democracy that all countries strive to emulate. Their politicians (especially Republicans) are bought and paid for my special interest groups (NRA) or whole industries (Pharmaceuticals/Cigs/Defence).
They will never represent the people when money is changing hands.
It looks like Mitch McConnell will vote in favour of impeachment. That makes it much more likely to happen.
this is the tw@t the FBI are looking for that tossed the extinguisher that killed the cop

hope his Liberty is coming to an end very soon
Impeachment expected today :aok:
It won't happen until after Trump leaves do number crunching just now is fairly meaningless.
However, given that the GOP senators won't actually be removing their president, and the fact that many of them won't want Trump to run in 2024, there's a chance that the impeachment will be accepted by the Senate.
He's going to be there for another week though. I wonder what else can happen in that time...

This is why there is a chance the republicans in senate may turn on Trump. Nothing to do with doing the right thing. All about the dollars.

Large numbers relatively of federal death sentences carried out. Looks like he is wielding whatever power he has left and has a lust for blood. That power should be removed from him immediately
That speaker must be totally fed up saying the same thing hundreds of times. Thank God it's almost over.
There’s more us troops in Washington right now than the the whole of Afghanistan and Iraq combined.
Hoyer is a great speaker.
That's Donnie impeached for a second time, the James Hunt. First time in American history. Ten Republicans have voted in favour of impeachment. :aok:
Donnie's record:
Impeached twice - the only president to endure that.
Lost the popular vote in both presidential elections.
Lost control of the House of Representatives in 2018.
Lost Control of the senate in 2020.
One term president.
"You'll get so tired of winning", said Trump. :greengrin

Probably old news but banks start to call in debts https://www.theguardian.com/business...h-donald-trump
He certainly has a fair bit of debt and I really hope he loses the two Scottish Golf Courses. they are a stain on this country particularly the one in Aberdeen which should never got planning permission as his promises should have been easily seen as lies.
I was watching the process of impeachment and heard a few stoaters from Republicans, "I won't vote for impeachment because it means in the future, that every member of this house will have what he says here scrutinised" and "If I vote for impeachment my life would be in danger". I also noticed that for some reason Republicans can't seem to find masks that fit, they were constantly falling down.
So, what will the Senate do? We can take for granted that the Dems will uphold the impeachment, but what the Republicans will do is difficult to predict.
If the Senate "lets him off", he will be able to run in 2024 whether as the GOP candidate, or as an independent. Neither possibility will sit easily with the more moderate in the party, but the former must be terrifying. However they can't be confident that he wouldn't get the nomination so supporting the impeachment might be attractive to them. On the other hand, if they reckon that he's now too toxic to run even independently, they might decide that impeachment wouldn't achieve anything.
Also, what damage can he really do to the GOP as an independent? The donations from his followers will dry up and no credible organisations will back him so he'd have to fund a campaign with his own, also dwindling and under threat, resources.
It'll be a fascinating albeit very depressing, few weeks.
He's had it.
CNN suggesting he’s told his team not to pay Rudy Giuliani’s legal fees
Reading an article on the BBC, I see that a "Republican congresswoman, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, announced she would file articles of impeachment against Mr Biden, accusing him of abuse of power, the day after his inauguration"
I would imagine this will get no traction but it just highlights how utterly crazy some of these people are.

Right, ta. She's a whole lot crazier than I assumed.
It is indeed bonkers that an actual Qanon follower can get elected to the House of Representatives. We were discussing her last year on here before she won the vote. But what she’s saying in those Twitter clips, ‘it’s not white people that’s the problem for blacks, it’s the gangs, they own the black people, they all deal drugs’ that’s an opinion shared by a lot of white people, certainly in the suburbs of a city like Atlanta Georgia, so it’s not really that surprising that she won. They won’t even think those views are particularly racist.
Trump will rue the day he charged his followers up to the Capitol that much is clear.
Swathes of businesses and banks cutting ties with his organisation is going to hurt him very badly.
It was never clear if his businesses actually made any money but with these daily set backs it would be no surprise to see it fold like a pack of cards. The most painful will be his banking partners pulling out. The forever rolling of debt seemed to be his operational lifeline and with that removed on top of the vast contracts being cancelled its hard to see how it survives.
As for him running again...I very much doubt that. The money needed is just not going to be there, no matter how many online campaigns he runs.
