STV led with Ross expenses story. BBC didn’t run it.

Hmm.
Quote:
According to the Sunday Mail, Ross’s team have identified 28 claims he made to Westminister while carrying out work as a football referee after he had *already* been confronted about possible rule-breaking.
The findings have only recently come to light after the fallout over Ross replacing his sick colleague David Duguid to stand in his constituency of Banff and Buchan last week.
A senior Tory source revealed to the Sunday Mail the team discussed the travel claims when contacted by journalists but hoped nobody would pick them up. Ross apparently billed the taxpayer for flights between London to Glasgow and Edinburgh, where he was working as an SFA linesman. Only travel from an MP’s declared home airport, which in Ross’s case who was the MP for Moray would be Inverness or Aberdeen, can be claimed as constituency travel.
The expense watchdog, Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), were led to believe that Ross was returning to his Moray constituency.
However, the claims were all wrongly classed as “London-constituency” with IPSA. Ross’s team identified the 28 expenses where he wrongly used parliamentary-funded travel for his refereeing work after he was first asked questions about the expenses by journalists in 2021.
The Sunday Mail also said a senior Tory source revealed Ross’s team had discussed the travel claims when contacted by the newspaper’s journalists, but hoped nobody would pick them up. The team had in fact identified multiple cases where the 41-year-old had combined parliamentary travel with linesman work or claims for parking while refereeing for the SFA on expenses.
According to the Sunday Mail, a party insider said: “The latest antics from Douglas are a disgrace and he should be ashamed of himself. He has always wanted to stay at Westminster and he’s completely screwed over a hard-working colleague to get there. Many of us are disgusted with it.

I've found a reason to vote tory 🤣 at least in his constituency
Needs to resign full stop …never mind Tory leader if he has been caught ripping the tax payer of with his expenses and his collar felt
5th week in office, align us to the EU and the single market as quickly as possible. Get our exports and imports in an even keel again. Expand FOM in due course. Stop making Britain feel like we have to kick all foreigners out, re staff the NHS, care homes and farming Labour.
J
Correct, if I use data abroad on my work phone it just goes through in the corporate account. If I was watching hours of Tic Tok I’d be given the chance to pay up.
What I do when I’m abroad with the work phone is, use it for work purposes. And use my actual phone for YouTube and Disney+.
J
But the difference is when it was pointed out to him how much it was, he said it was all government business so he would use his msp allowance to pay 4k of it, fraud. If he was a single mum trying to screw the tax payer he'd be in court but politicians don't live like us
Yes, the response not the act was the issue. He should have ponied up the £4K and be done with it, put it down to being an idiot (especially as he was watching Celtic, if it was Hibs TV he could be forgiven).
Where as with Ross it’s the Act and the coverup that’s the issue.
J
It's definitely the act of covering up with Matheson. He knew he was sharing Internet which is illegal, lied saying he didn't and then said I'll put it on my tax payers expenses then. Pre meditated fraud. It was 6 months later it was found out and he admitted he tried to get the tax payer to pay and then he offered to pay himself.
Ross if guilty did similar, he knew he was lying but tried to stick it on the tax payer
Matheson has been a title and the SNP haven't dealt terribly well with that. But let's not lose sight of what this is about. Ross has once again shown that when it comes to rules, especially, finances, he feels he is above them.
Matheson should have resigned 6 months ago and it wouldn't be a story. He doesn't care about the SNP as he let the story drag and damage for a year. I agree he has nothing to do with this Ross case whatsoever. Ross says the standards committee already checked the expenses but surely that was before the leaked messages. They need to get checking again and get him done. Couldn't happen to a better weasel than Ross, hopefully this destroys the chance of him winning the seat
The first point, could have been innocent. I know lots of corporate deals have unlimited internet. Things get tricky when you go abroad.
Used to be in my place that you had to go over your work phone bill and annotate calls that were personal then pay the cost.
Now contracts are all inclusive, no need to do that.
At the point that the public purse was put at expense, then he should have got his cheque book out.
The rest is shameful.
Ross’s seems more pre meditated to me. Twos upping on work and SFA, pretending it’s Parliamentary work when it’s actually SFA work. Dodgy AF.
Hopefully we can see the last of him (certainly in Westminster) by July. Frankly if it was Scottish Parliamentary Business that would be a resigning issue. In fact, the fact that he did this in any public capacity should be a resigning issue.
All I ever ask myself is, what would the reaction be if it were Jeremy Corbyn or Dianne Abbot who did any of these acts. If their head is demanded, then same same.
J
Ross going to resign as Tory leader after the election and not stand as an MSP in the upcoming Scottish election if he wins a seat in the UK elections. Seems he's still going for MP though.

Fly lil git.
Regardless it appears he has defrauded the public purse …this should be investigated and if the evidence is there charged with a criminal offence, I also feel the same about Matheson as he knowingly tried to get the tax payer to pay his roaming bill, even after it was pointed out to him he was deceitful trying to cover it up.
No it wasn't an accident it's illegal for him to stream his data out to anyone including family as people can get access to his government phone. He broke the rules from the very first moment. He was a month later questioned on the big bill he said it was all constituency work a lie and due to that he'll put a claim in to pay 4k of it. He knew what he was doing. He made a mistake and should have offered to pay and it's would have got him sympathy if anything, instead he lied and tried to put in an expense claim
Ross also knew he was defrauding us, politicians think they are above us
LOL. I have no time for Patrick Harvie but this farewell to Ross is amusing.

Apparently they're not going to have a by-election if Ross stands down, is that even possible?

I believe it goes to the 2nd on the list. Not sure who that was or what party
Ella Robertson-McKay, that'd be the one with her as MD and her mum the co-founder of the charity One Young World which was investigated for senior staff salaries and bonuses paid, it concluded with an "official warning" and the charity found guilty of misconduct or mismanagement and breach of trust.
Got to be said Sunak think is a pretty good communicator. Don’t believe a word he says but puts it over well :greengrin
Your going to be hard pushed to find a better example of someone putting themselves first and having absolutely no shame about how they achieve it or who they crap on along the way.
Reeks of income preservation on whatever gravy train he can claw his way onto.

Tories hooring around their 'greatest hits' policies/grifts for one last farewell tour.
How TV presenters keep a straight face is beyond me. I did hear the term "news performers" recently, so it's mibby that.

They’ve had 14 years to go after tax evasion (which they don’t care about).
What about Michelle Mone and the PPE scandal, Brexit (he who should not be named), small boat incompetence, abhorrent Rwanda policy, the Post Office, Grenville and combustible cladding across the housing market, Windrush and trying to deport people who were babies when their parents came to this country to rebuild it and the mini budget?
Their time is up!

The traffic of hard cash through the City to Magic Island Banks is the elephant in the room with this economy. Their logarithms have rung people dry and its natural progression means it never stops. As long as it is more profitable to sneak profits offshore than invest in the nation we just have to put up with being rinsed.

The headline figures in the article is misleading. Divide the numbers by the miles of dual carriageway and single carriageway to get an accurate pet mile figure
For reference the section they are talking about is 30 miles dual carriageway and 80 miles single carriageway.
Huge Ipsos poll out later today. Will be a good indicator as to how much **** they’re in.

SNP on 15 seats! That must be at the lower end of their expectations.
Maybe a real job would be the unmaking of him.
If Starmer has even the slightest inkling of geopolitics he'll have someone on the cabinet hammering the message of "russian money", "putins payroll" and "russian connections", as that is NF's ultimate boss.
Sent from my SM-A528B using Tapatalk
Maybe he's acutely aware of the links between the old "new" labour element of his party and russian money.
In fact i doubt Mandelson would let him play that card given his directorship at russian weapons manufacturer Sisterma which he held until 2017, even after the annexation of Crimea.
I dare say there are more than Mandelson who have been inveigled to whatever degree. Purge them. Nothing like a good purge. Release the Russia report, compile a list. Get the press talking about that rather than the latest Tory Party catchphrase or their infighting or their trying to out-jingo each other.
I know most of their day to day will be sorting out the debris of the ******stastrophe that lot have left behind, but on the world stage a bit anti-putin theatre can only. Or will he stall to see if Trump gets in?

So far 4 people close to Sunak are being investigated for alleged betting fraud linked to the date of the election.
To be honest if I'd thought about it I could probably have put a bet on about torys being dishonest about this.
It would have been crap odds I suppose. The torys are dishonest about everything.
"Once I had discovered the date of the election I found myself accidently placing a large bet on it being the date in question. I apologise if people feel outraged and I promise my winnings will be given away to (my) charity. End off."

As in, there I was walking along the pavement in an honest conservative sort of a way, when suddenly I tripped over a loose paving stone, fell through a Turf Accounts shop door, whilst trying to keep my balance I accidentally picked up a betting slip and pen as a result of the severe head injury I didn't receive, to my horror I found that I accidentally put a large wedge on a date I thought a general election might accidentally happen on in an accidental sort of way?
And so did my husband.

Another one being investigated for betting while an aide to (not so) Cleverly caught on film saying the Rwanda scheme is crap.
People who vote for this lot are off their heads.
The Tories should be hung drawn and quartered for their abysmal performance during Covid. So much money wasted. They should never form a Government again and certain Ministers should be in prison.

Government destroys £1.4bn of PPE from one Covid deal
What on earth are we destroying it for. Surely these things have a long shelf life and can be stored somewhere so that got forbid another pandemic happens we have a slight head start?
Also some do these items are still used by the NHS for surgeries and other uses. Why is it not just being distributed.
Read last night that they had already spent £100m on storage so I’m guessing destroying is cheaper than maintaining storage long term. However £100m for storage seems outrageous too, probably renting a garage from Michelle Mone and her husband.
Somewhere someone in the world must want to buy some PPE!
Surely even a fraction of this stuff could be used in Gaza or Ukraine by humanitarian organisations!?
Edit: I can tell you ****ing why in fact, because the Conservative/Reform voters would be foaming at the mouth at Daily Mail headlines like “£1b of TAX PAYER money sent to nasty foreigners”.
The article said it was bought in 2020 and had a 3 year shelf life?

Jack now admits to placing a winning bet in April, winning £120 but countering it with 2 losing bets he placed in March.
Actually think his is nothing like the others who used information they learnt to make a profit. He put 3 bets on may, June and a July to September and won a small amount, obviously just fun. Grouping him diminishes the rest. It's not against the rules for politicians to bet on politics, that should change. Lewis Goodall on Newsagents was saying it's a tradition for candidates to bet against themselves. Needs to be a separation from the unwise to the illegal
All MPs and officials should be banned from betting on politics like footballers are banned from betting on football (well I think they are)
He also lost 2. The cabinet were shocked into a rage at Sunak throwing a fast election the tories weren't ready, no one knew in April including Sunak. If his circle made a bet the gambling commission will find out, so far 15 cases getting looked at for bets in may. Only a few will get done as they will have bet once knowing the information. Nothing can happen to the others as there isn't rules against politicians betting on political matters.
Whilst it is enjoyable to see the Tories imploding like this, is it just me that feels a little bit of frustration that the bookies are allowed to stack everything in their favour and take whatever bets they want, knowing full well that they'll always be in profit. But as soon as a punter has some knowledge that could stack the odds in their favour they cry foul and claim it shouldn't be allowed and potentially get the police involved? Don't take a bet on something that someone could conceivably know the answer to if you don't want to lose.
It's a bit like card counting to me, it's not illegal, but casinos are quite happy to take everyone's money when the odds are in their favour but as soon as someone comes in with a highly developed skill which allows them to tip the odds ever so slightly the other way the casinos hate it and blacklist people for doing it.
I hate bookies and casinos.
Alex Cole Hamilton now putting bets on.

Funny I was about to mention him in relation to the posts above your post about the PPE. It wouldn't surprise me if he was benefitting from the storage of the PPE. His business is storage units - the one in the old Jenners building at Balgreen, for example was one of his (he appears to have resigned as a director of it now though).
I don't like bookies and casinos either but I can see their point when the element of chance is removed by nefarious means.
Nefarious used only because I like the sound of the word 😆 I hope that in future history it will be used a lot to describe the former crime syndicate known as the tory party.
Stored like this would help its shelf life for sure....

Kemi Badenoch, criticised by David Tennant, and her only response is to play the race card.
"A rich, lefty, white male celebrity so blinded by ideology he can't see the optics of attacking the only black woman in government..."

OK, I'd have no problem with her criticising what Tennant actually said, as it could well be considered as over the top, but that's a pretty poor way to approach this.
