Stevenson-esque ball there :greengrin
brilliant try scotland
Do rugby players get away with talking back to refs more these days? I've noticed 2 or 3 Welsh players give a bit of a mouthful.
It's obviously miles apart from football but it's something I never noticed before.
To this untrained eye Scotland look bloody brilliant.
oh yes mr hibs :)
jeezo our line-out needs some working on
Hogg bobbing and weaving
yet another mistake from replacement Graham leads to the welsh getting in for a try
replace him at HT :)
gary graham again giving away a penalty, he's not having a great game
missed chances yet again at the welsh try line and up we come the other end for a welsh try, those mistakes hurting us
Never a red card
We're a lot easier on the eye than we were a few years back, but we've played in a pretty pacey, entertaining way for a while now without quite carrying the extra edge required for tangible success. I'm a bit surprised Townsend is still coach, but last week's win at Twickenham was a massive plus point for him.
Until the last few minutes it looked like we were going to follow up with another impressive win but looks like we might be about to implode!
'kin Fagerson, wales should win this now i reckon
Infuriating, should have been out of sight, an F up while camped in their half and Wales go up the other end and score, and now we're down to 10.
Can see wales running away with this now. Very very harsh red card.
****. Hard to see us winning from here.
that's game, self-inflicted, as usual total lack of imagination when up right on the opponents try line but we've lacked that imagination for decades
Has anyone checked out the zit on the refs nose? Massive and a hint of yellow there too.
Love the ambition from Scotland here. Brilliant stuff.
lol one of those times we will gain points before having to take the advantage
Get in there Hogg
Hoggy ya beauty!!
one stuart hogg
there's only one stuart hogg
what a kick from finn russell
That’s a beautiful try
****
easy try wales
What a finish this is
What a clearing kick that was.
price kicks possession away and scotland are back 60 metres, poor stuff price
so deflating and so scotland after winning at twickenham
i don't think the welsh will be winning the six nations though
Some game, it was always going to be an uphill struggle after a harsh red card.
Absolutely ****ed by Wayne Barnes. Disgusting officiating.
He should be removed from international test rugby: he’s absolutely shocking.
two welsh wins
two welsh wins against teams down to 14 players
Stupid sport at the end of the day. Way too much power to arbitrary refereeing decisions.
Definite red card nowadays. Contact to the head is a red card. Players should know better, it is the rules. As someone who played through the 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and stopped playing in 2018 after 37 years and have seen law changes year after year players need to adapt. It is their ****ing job. Fagerson cost us that game make no mistake.
away to le french next= pas de points
home to ireland= probably nae points
home to italy= probably points
end of the day we will finish the table in our pretty regular position after such a promising start, that was a real sickener today
Scotland's game management still leaves a lot to be desired.
Need to put points on the board instead of repeatedly kicking for touch.
Nope. It was reckless, he did hit the head. Straight red. Feel a wee but for him as it wasn't as bad a O'Mahony last week. But you start with the red and check to see if there are mitigating circumstances. The face he ran from distance and made no attempt to wrap his arms means red card. Lost the game because of it
Personally thought it was harsh. Pitch ref had the perfect view and gave nothing. Didn't seem clear enough for a red for me. Game changing decision with little or no contact with head and player not in any way injured. On that basis there will be three or four reds a game. Something not right also about English officials making a decision which directly favours their country imo.
Wales have beaten 2 teams with 14 mean by a combined 6 points. I don’t think they’re a shot to win it .
Yeah I dont think wales will beat either England or France...Im still hopeful Scotland can pull off a shock against France, its gonna be some game with the philosophy of both teams. I think we could win our last 3 matches if we screw the nut re infringements. I dont think Ireland are any great shakes under the new management team who I think was a weird appointment in the first place (like England, some great players but the system they are using isnt the best).
Fagerson suspended for the remaining games of the Six Nations (4 week ban). A harsher penalty than Patrick O'Mahoney, who only got a 3 week ban.
The system is quite broken!
two points;
1. I don't think it was even a red, a yellow at best. it ruined the game for us.
2. we're luckily blessed with great props to cover.
we've a chance against France and Ireland and if we can do it I think everyone can beat everyone this year... we have a chance.

Seen a clip tonight re the end of the Exeter game where the guy had a kick to win it but after starting his move, then took so long to kick the bloody ball that the opposition ran and booted it into touch to win the game.
All a bit odd 😂
Sunday's game increasingly looks like it's in doubt as cases amongst the French side are spiralling.
28-0 win, please :greengrin (most likely, it'll be rearranged for the following week when there's no fixtures).
Decision due on Wednesday night apparently. Moving it to next week would result in punishing Scotland, as none of the players can readily be released on a rest week from their clubs, meaning we could potentially be missing most of our non-Pro 14 players.
France need to suck it up and call in some of their youth players (who are still bloody brilliant, as we seen against England in the Autumn Nations), or forfeit the tie IMO. Moving it punishes the wrong team.
Scotland game off.
We will now replay the match with 10 players missing rather than France have 10 + players missing.
Disgraceful if the points plus a bp aren’t awarded to Scotland.
Someone in the French camp clearly breached the protocols. How else would the virus have gotten into the camp.
They should be forfeiting the game and giving Scotland the win.
Ah, match-day. No Scotland this weekend but looking forward to Edinburgh later on today, followed by Wales vs England!
Wow, England have been done there.
That’s one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen!!!
Wales beat England with a bonus point to win the triple crown. Should beat Italy so it’s a trip to France to win another Grand Slam. A nation absolutely brilliant at Rugby.
The luckiest team in world rugby. Narrow wins against two teams down to 14 men and then a horrific decision for their 2nd try. Even the 1st is questionable. He had asked Farrell to have a word with his players after another penalty and then while he was still doing that he started play. I would have been raging with both to be honest
Thought the first try decision was absolutely incredible should have been chalked off. Second one thought it looked like a knock on however commentator seemed to be saying technically the right decision which seemed to quieten Moore and Davies so dont really know to be honest.
Brian Moore is a qualified ref so I'd be surprised if he got that wrong. I think it was guscott that said it was technically correct but it looked like a knock on to my untrained eye and the reaction of the Welsh player said a lot. Wales are surely going to win the whole thing, they've been so jammy.
The 2nd decision was correct, the rule is that the ball has to go forward off your hand or arm AND hit the ground or an opponent before you regain control. Because it hit his leg and then his foot before hitting the ground or opposition then it isn't a knock on as it came off his feet so counts as a kick.
I don't understand the big fuss about this one to be honest, losing control of the ball forward on its own is not enough to count as a knock on, it has to hit the ground or opposition player as well and he clearly got his foot on it first.
The first try decision was worse and really harsh on England IMHO.
Sorry, not having that. Its a knock on. He tried to catch it, dropped it and luckily hit his calf. He at no point had control of the ball. Everyone, and I mean everyone who I know who has played the game thinks that is a knock on. Reece-Zammit thought it was a knock on. All the commentators thought it was a knock on.
Im a qualified referee and level 3 ukcc coach and if that happened in a game I would be awarding a scrum to the opposition every time
Your opinion is validated by world rugby head of refs, Joël Jutge.
Quote:
Jutge said: “The ball is not controlled by the wing and falls on his thigh. The situation became confused because at the time there was no notion of loss of control. The reality is that if he had whistled for a knock-on, no one would have found fault with him. This is one of the perverse effects of the video system, looking too much [at an incident] in microscopic detail. There is a tendency to refer to the TMO too often when one can make the call on the pitch and stick with it.”
It seems I'm in the minority on this one, happy to take a referees word for it!
My view of this might be clouded by the fact that I used to play on the wing and on the (very rare :greengrin) occurrences that I did knock the ball on I would always do my best to try to get my foot/leg on the ball before it hit the ground to try to prevent it being a knock on.
I don't remember loss of control being a thing when I played though is it new?
I thought he knocked it on. Can't believe the ref gave it! Nigel Owens was on scrum V saying it was def a knock on so i'm going with big Nige on that one!
Thought the first try was a bit harsh on them as well to be honest but we went on to put more and more pressure on them and they capitulated. Penalties left right and centre due to the pressure we were putting on them. Even if you take off the 2 dodgy tries we would have won anyway.
We should beat Italy so on to Paris for (another) go at a slam.
For those that like the league variety, the NRL kicks off Thursday morning at 9.05am with Melbourne v South Sydney
Currently watching the Sydney vs Manly game - oh to see spectators back in our arenas again like they are over there.
Big day in the Six Nations today. Wales should obviously deal with Italy, and a massive match between England and France. Strange going into a game hoping for an English win...(or more to the point, French loss).
Wales absolutely dominating Italy - a bonus point after half an hour and they finish the first half without conceding. Italy unable to get moving at all.
Welsh looking good for the Grand Slam!
This game is superb.
the french got what they deserved, stopped playing after 50 mins
i put £12 on england not long after france went ahead 20-13, returned £26 :)
England 23 France 20 a really good game that.
our record against ireland from 2000 is dreadful
P -27
W-6
L- 21
last 10 games we've won just once, i don't expect us to improve on that tomorrow
20 years up to 2000
P-21
W -15
L -5
D -1
I'm not optimistic for us tomorrow.
Still, manage a win against them, a win against Italy and upset France in Paris (the most unlikely of the 3), coupled with a French win vs Wales next weekend and we might still have a chance!
I actually really fancy Wales to get the GS after today. They took their foot off the pedal in the second half but were very comfortable in defense. Young Rees-Zammit is absolutely incredible.
Scotland sleeping here, terrible start
We’re going to get blown away if we keep giving away stupid penalties again!
The long break has clearly not benefited us.
Scotland very poor. Getting bad vibes that Ireland will walk this.
Scottish lineouts not too good today
Ireland vs Scotland is like Aberdeen vs Hibs, no matter how guff they are we (normally) can't buy a win against them.
How many stupid penalties do Scotland give away. Honestly some of the players are playing like they don’t know the rules
F me, the ref gives Scotland a penalty there, it’s a miracle.
Russell kicks it out on the full. Says it all.
Sometimes we just seem to do the basics right. My old rugby teacher at school would be going mental
We’re our own worst enemy a lot of the time (lineouts, penalties today), but Ireland were gifted a try that clearly looked held up.
Our ineptitude as a national rugby team is truly impressive. Smaller nations than us frequently find success but we continue to excel at failing.
Would like to see Townsend move on. I was never a fan and despite all of the “promise”, he can’t seem to get us to that elite level. Shake up and build toward the 2023 World Cup.
awk we're back in our usual league position...2nd bottom, thank goodness for the Italians
