View Full Version : Match Updates Ayr Utd v Hibernian (Scottish Cup 5th Round)
Thought Brown came across well too at the end. Hopefully a good managerial career ahead of him.
I'll give him a bit of leeway with his take on the decisions, he was always a player who enjoyed a tough tackle [emoji16]
He was right though. Not a bad challenge but loads of bookings.
The game should never be about the officials but with Clancy in charge it always seems that way.

Not vintage but job done. For all the justified criticism in recent years you’d have to say that MM and DG are on the right path in the type of players we now have at the club. We can’t change what went before but they deserve some support and time to make the changes we need to make us even better.

One priority is to keep Rocky on the books. He has his ‘rocky’ moments but he’s a trier and gives his all.
Good teams are made up of lots of different characters, not necessarily the best players. Rocky has become the poster-boy for our resurgence and never-say-die attitude, that most of the rest of the team have bought into.
Hibs are a big, physical, determined, unified, team - something which we've not had in years. All we need is a bit of flare in midfield and we'd be transformed. Hopefully, we still have the money to do that.

I don’t really disagree but after Triantis was booked, Ayr targeted him with two nasty tackles, which could have been yellows for both Ayr players ( based on subsequent Clancy decisions).

It’s a really good win.
They’re a good team, well organised and had a threat on the break.
The young lad Henderson who is having a good season performed well. Actually thought the lad Agbaire at centre half done really well but then made some mistakes as he tired near the end.
Got his team and subs spot on.
Bowie made a big difference but just being able to hold the ball up and take us up the pitch.

Very good result, turned the tempo up in the latter of the game, NMW gave us good energy and done well, Bowie will get better with more games under his belt, Rocky strolled in and delighted for the big man getting the goal and is current form.
Smith with some great saves and is starting to look like a decent GK for this level, Clancy a joke.
First team into the next round.
I’m on holiday and watched the game. Now just catching up on the thread. Good to see your comments. NMW has added a lot of energy in his appearances since he came on against the hun at ER. Can’t believe some of the slagging he’s had from some on this thread. I struggle to understand what some folk see and how they interpret it when they watch a game of football.

That was torture up until we scored. Fair play to Ayr United, from the evidence of that they would have given any team outside Celtic a game tonight, well organised, defended pretty well and fought hard for every ball. Don't think we were at our best, but we did well to get through a tough tie we probably would have lost 3 or 4 months ago.
Best for us were undoubtedly the back three, especially Rocky, and Smith who made some decent saves.
Myko is just a waste of a shirt, he brings absolutely nothing.
As for that camera angle .... bloody hell Ayr need to sort it out, it practically made the game unwatchable.

The tournament starts for real in the next round, with the likelihood of 7 out of the 8 teams being from the SPL.
Hopefully we get a home draw against Livingston.
Failing that a home draw against St Johnstone.
Failing that a home draw against Dundee
Draw any of the other 5 teams and it will be a little tougher ...
unless there is an upset before Monday nights draw.

Obviously we want Gray as long as possible but felt like he was pretty happy with how his team performed tonight.
Reckon it's the wrong timing for it to happen. He's on the rise, next job will be spfl or England, probably within 12 months or less and then he's only coming to Hibs if he's not a success there so unlikely we'd be as keen on the idea.
It would take something pretty spectacular for Gray to not be here for the start of the next season now, he's proving his many doubters wrong.

Maybe he should have signed the one offered to him when Monty was manager.
From his point of view probably a blessing he didn't. He's in a much stronger bargaining position now.
Additionally given the fact the Hibs forums, Facebook, etc. were full of "FFS ROCKY" and "bombscare" comments, why would he be in a rush to stay. Having a stand singing your name is the sort of thing that makes you feel like you want to stay.
Obviously performances are night and day, hence the different fan reactions, but I'm not sure anyone could blame Rocky for not signing the extention at that time.

Yeah, felt it was a proper celebration. I’d rather win 1-0 like that 7 days a week than any VAR assisted win. It was just better all round for me. Even the Triantis yellow card, it was simply a case of right, game on again.

Great old fashioned type cup tie, good atmosphere tough game and Ayr played some good football. Clancy clown as ever its all about me show.
The crowd going tonto when Rocky scored brilliant and the pies were cheaper than Easter Road just as good. With a classic quote from Broony to wind the jambos up. Good Friday night out even if it was freezing, good wee ground and bring on the next round for Hibs.
Thought Bowie and NMW made the difference as they brought some urgency into our play, we were too pedestrian up to then. When NMW comes on this leave Trantis to move forward a bit and he also came into the game.

Triantis really is a great footballer.
I think everyone had to have been thinking "Oh no" when he picked up the very early booking, kept his head for the rest of the game with some really nice and composed play in the middle of the park.
We have a good few players who have been in good form in recent months and Triantis is one of them.

To me the game changed when Bowie came on. I'm not really sure what Myko brings to the team the way we played last night. Running the channels and holding the ball up are not his strengths from what I can see. When the odd one sticks he isn't quick enough to get in the box for the cross so is out of teh position he actually half decent in. The sooner Bowie is fit enough to play extended periods the better. It struck me last night that if we had changed Boyle and Myko after the tradition 60 mins that their replacements may have struggled to complete extra time if that was needed. We are through though so whatever the deficiencies of last night the objective was achieved without obvious injuries. Next round we have more chance of getting a team we should beat than getting one that will be a struggle

He was right though. Not a bad challenge but loads of bookings.
The game should never be about the officials but with Clancy in charge it always seems that way.
The Triantis booking...how else was he supposed to win that ball? Or should he just pull out of the challenge in case it's deemed reckless?
The commentator described it as 'scything' the Ayr player down, which was almost more ridiculous than the yellow card.

No chance, genuinely one of the worst grounds I've ever visited. I would go as far to even say it's dangerous. I doubt thier stadium would even meet SPL standards due to the amount of terracing they still have.
Great wee ground, even getting in was not that much of a hassle, friendly bunch without some of the vitriol spewed out at other grounds, hope they do well.
As for the bbc headline that we scraped past Ayr, sorry we disappointed so many of them. It was a tough game for sure but we were going to win, not scrape past.

Bowie looked decent when he came on.
Be good to see more of him over the next few games.
Bowie made a big difference. Quality is clear. Hoping with another full week of training he’ll be able to start next week.

Yip. Set the tone by Clancy but it didn’t really. They fouled and fouled with a couple I would say worse than triantis but nowt.
I thought he had a woeful game yet again with loads of decisions going against us.

Think it may be March before he gets a full 90 mins, Hibs rightly being careful with the guy, who does look the business.

Yeah don’t think he’s going to complete 90 minutes too soon but he’s had a few decent run outs now. He’d have ended up playing an hour last night had we not got the goal late in as well.
Hoping the next step is to get him on the park for an hour or so.
