Dick McTaggart

Boxer

RIP

Surprised BBC Scotland only have this story on their Tayside page. Helluva fighter and the only Scottish boxer to win an Olympic gold medal.

Just reading his obituary and learned he was one of 18 (!!) children. The family all lived (somehow) in a Dundee tenement.

His record (as an amateur his whole career) was extraordinary.

Very sad to see this this morning, a man who always seemed to have a smile on his face, a passion for F1 (and life), and brightened up the tv when he appeared

Ended up watching his band at T in the Park one year. Was meant to be The Brian Jonestown Massacre but they never turned up. They were awful but he came out afterwards and chatted to everyone. Nice guy.

Andy Peebles.

Peebles, in an interview with RTÉ to mark the 40th anniversary of (John) Lennon’s death, recalled going for dinner with him at Mr Chow’s in Manhattan after the interview [interview by Peebles with Lennon, two days before Lennon was shot]. The whole restaurant turned their heads, he said; Lennon put his arm around Peebles’ shoulder and said: “They’re all saying who the bleep is that with Andy Peebles?”

Was VG playing Doc Halliday in Tombstone. "I'll be your Huckleberry".
Not a fan of Tom Cruise and the Top Gun films, nor Batman, so not seen him in them. But I imagine, had he not been effectively medically retired from acting with his throat cancer about 10 years ago, we'd have seen him in plenty more top notch roles over the last decade.

Makes me want to go and play that track right now.

Great drummer with a great band (as well as numerous other top acts during his career).

Barry Hoban. Not quite the Cavendish of his day but sparked the interest and careers of the next generation of GB cyclists by mixing it with Merckx
and co on the Tour de France when GB pro cyclists were a rarity. Glued to theWorld of Sport highlights and in awe.

That's sad news. Good guy, occasionally managed a quick blether with him when he had Olivers in Rose Street although it was always busy.

I think he worked in The Rainbow as well.

Mike Peters from The Alarm after a long battle with leukemia. Kept fighting and performing to the end. I have been watching and listening to the Alarm for 40 years. He fought his illness with such courage, dignity and spirit. A massively under-rated band and his death has hit me harder than any celebrity death perhaps with the exception of Stuart Adamson. So sad

He actually fronted Big Country in place of Stuart Adamson a few years back - I saw them at The Hexagon in Reading. Very good in his own right and a very moving tribute to Stuart, but they just weren't the same without him.

Really shocked and saddened when I heard this at lunchtime , I've been a fan for years .He was a realy nice guy who had time for everyone apparently . I'd always hoped I'd get the chance to see him live again sometime , he's the kind of guy who'd be perfect for MacArts. The Spirit of 76 will live on forever

Just heard the news and totally shocked. One of my first Gigs was seeing the Alarm in the summer of 88.

Also saw him a few times with Big Country. Mostly smaller venues and always had time for a chat.
