Hecky was without Boyle a lot too was he not?

He was yes. Boyle is becoming almost a Messi like figure the longer he's away. He was a good player and served us well but he wasn't incredible. There were loads of games where he was posted missing. Last year's semi against Hearts being one of them.

Indeed. The idea we were some one man team is utter *****. A poor excuse fir our poor form.

This year to save me from tears, I’ll give it to Shaun Maloney.

I think what you see with a lot of these threads is there are mitigating circumstances until people have had enough, then those circumstances get chucked out the window and it’s all the managers fault. Hecky did well initially then had some pretty poor injuries and results so got emptied. Even this season Ross was given the excuse of recruitment being poor by Kensell in the press then sacked a couple of weeks later.
Surely the ability to deal with these bumps in the road is exactly what we pay the manager for. Build a squad and adapt your approach to deal with injuries/suspensions/transfers out.
If we lose the next two and end up bottom six and out the cup to hearts then I can see a lot of pressure for Maloney, Kensell and Gordon.

Someone put up a list of goals that we scored over a significant portion of the season fairly recently. It was well into double figures where near enough every goal had been scored by Boyle, every goal that wasn’t scored by Boyle was assisted by him and every penalty he scored was also won by him. A good few goals didn’t even have someone listed as having assisted as he’d pretty much created the opportunity himself as well.
We were as close to a one man team as you can really get.
As for the idea that Boyle was simply a good player and not incredible - 29 goals and god only knows how many assists in a season and a half from the wing would suggest differently. If you look at any other winger out with the old firm then that simply is incredible.

Have we had a penalty since Boyle left?

I think you under estimate how important Boyle was to us. We were as close to a one man team as you can get imo

Embarrassing thread.
What IS embarrassing is that anyone thought that appointing Maloney was a good idea in the first place.

Pointless statement. He was, and still is, up against teams with far more money to spend, just like SM is.
We are now guaranteed to finish below a few teams who have a lot less money to spend.

I hate to mention “fine margins” - but there’s being in with a shout of finishing 4th and then there’s definitely finishing bottom 6th with an outside chance of relegation looming.
Today was the day that it swung from being one to the other, and it will have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for many. It did for me, and it would have felt premature whilst we were still in with a shout of finishing 4th and winning the cup, even if warning signs have been there all along.

:agree:
I don’t doubt the poster knows that but hey ho. You were right Ozyhibby, we all bow down to you.

Today we replaced an injured Drey Wright with Josh Campbell.
That in itself tells us how bad a position we are in as a club, both in terms of recruitment and tactical awareness.

About bloody time.[emoji6][emoji23]
He needs to be gone now. It’s been clear for a while that he’s not up to the job.
Unlike some, I don’t actually think our squad is that bad apart from central midfield. I just think Maloney hasn’t a clue.

I’m the opposite. I think our squad is terrible and I struggle to see how anyone can think differently when our only striker is 19 and didn’t play football on grass until a month or two ago.

Totally agree with this.

Yup. Squad horrific. Henderson, Jasper will come good but a season too early. Campbell has been asked too much and too many positions. Clarke wide left and a 19 year old up top?

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkCertainly not everyone . I don`t want him to go and doubt I`m the only one who thinks the same . When did you start wanting a different manager ( maybe before SM was appointed ? ) and who do ( did ? ) you have in mind for rest of season and more importantly for next season or two when recent signings will have settled in and important summer signings will have arrived ?

How???
Fans are paying a lot of money to watch a shambles of a football club.
Chief executive needs to do better.
We need far better recruitment as the players are not good enough or lack bottle in big games.
But I’m not surprised- same old hibs
Let the fans down year on year.
Clearout needed - no sentiment

I can see Maloney being similar to Arteta at Arsenal.
Playing some brilliant football and get some very good wins including beater the “better teams” in the league.
But also having the odd blip against the poorer teams.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 he’s had 1 win
Where’s this brilliant football ??? I must have missed that

Areta did start dreadfully at arsenal to be fair and he's turned them around (barring the blips this week)
