Gerard Way's solo album Hesitant Alien is a cracking listen, a massive departure from the sounds of My Chemical Romance. It is heavily influenced by Britpop and you can really hear that coming through in most of the tracks. Maya the Psychic, the last song on the album, is a brilliant song.
Listened to it today agree its good.

New pink floyd album. Alright so it's not a new album as such, more a collection of leftover tracks from the 1993 sessions that became the division bell that have been completed and mixed. But I'm glad both for nostalgic reasons and because after listening to it a few times today it's pretty good. Nearly makes me wish I still took a toke :smokin

Suicide Silence is one of my go-to albums if I'm having a VERY bad day - it's just noise!
In a similar vein, I'd recommend Of Mice & Men, Memphis May Fire, Asking Alexandria, The Amity Affliction, Attack Attack or We Came As Romans.

In addition to the above, I guess it depends which Bring Me The Horizon you're enjoying. If it's the 'There is a Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It...' BMTH, check out 'The Flood' by Of Mice & Men...if you're more enjoying 'Sempiternal', check out Restoring Force by Of Mice & Men. Distinct drop in heaviness between these 2 albums.

Listened to Tom Delonges EP which was a bit different. Hard to judge it too much as I took it at face value - a bunch of demos essentially that werent proper finished. That said, it would be interesting to see how some of them would have worked with Blink-182.

There's simply not one aspect of them album I dislike apart from that there isn't more songs on it. One of my favourite albums recorded. Not a single bad song I'd say.
Listened to Tom Delonges EP which was a bit different. Hard to judge it too much as I took it at face value - a bunch of demos essentially that werent proper finished. That said, it would be interesting to see how some of them would have worked with Blink-182.
Northlanes new song RA is one to listen to. So far it sounds like their new album is going to be very heavy and the new guy fits in the band extremely well.
Couldn't agree more - the more I listen to it, the better it gets. I'd struggle to pick a favourite but Gravedigger is as good an opening song as I've heard!

New Dr Dre album finally released yesterday. Bang average and you really can't take a middle aged billionaire rapping about the 'street' seriously. No doubt the production is fantastic as you'd expect from a mainstream rap album produced by Dre and similar to The Chronic the best songs are the ones he rarely raps on instead allowing more talented rappers to shine. On the whole it just feels a bit fake and a non event really tbh. Was half expecting lyrics like:
Call the Police
There's intruders on my grounds
Targeting nmy pad, probably coz their brown
I'm busy selling headphones to teenagers
For a little bit of gold, what's a pager?

"Hate" was probably too strong a word on my part but I certainly don't love what I've heard from it so far. Happy Song is alright but Throne and True Friends are too synthy for my liking. From the snippets of the other songs I've heard on the album, it seems that's going to be a massive feature.
I was never a fan of them as a deathcore band and I understand them wanting to approach more mellow stuff - I just hope it isn't to the full detriment of some of their heavier sounds.

And it definitely doesn't disappoint. Doomed has quickly become one of my favourite tracks. Completely broody track, still with the element of heaviness but loads of samples and electronics which sets the tone for the rest of the album.
To me, their best work yet. Never thought I'd hear a saxophone solo in BMTH.
Oli's voice has dramatically improved on this album. I can this year becoming massive for them. Complete game-changer album, might just see a few more metal bands change to a softer, more accessible approach.

After the first couple of listens, I couldn't have disagreed with you more. I absolutely hated it and viewed it as nothing but a sell-out venture, seeking to appease a new, more commercial fanbase. Whilst I still believe that to an extent, they deserve credit for what they've put together. I persisted with it and gave it a few more listens though and I agree that It is a pretty spectacular album and although I miss the heavy sound, I can appreciate from a musical perspective just what they've done.
What they've done isn't a 'game-changer' though for me. Heavy bands have softened before and continue to do so - granted, their journey is probably more pronounced than some before them but I can't see it shifting the landscape. I think bands like Slipknot, A7x, who have obtained commercial success and recognition without sacrificing their heavy sound is an example that what BMTH have done is not necessary to achieve accessibility.
I still dislike some of the songs on the album and find that Follow You in particular would be equally at home on a One Direction record as it would on a BMTH record. Infact, I find myself singing "Royals" by Lorde after the opening drum beat!

I've mentioned it before but I play in a band called Armstrong, we've just released our debut EP. If anyone is interested there's some links and some of the reviews below. Should have an Edinburgh gig at the beginning of the year.
Armstrong - Thursday Night Club*
https://youtu.be/BBXieIOyUrE
Armstrong - You Are Not Alone
https://youtu.be/vEDgFgrFbvg
"There’s nothing more exciting about new music exploration than the realization that a track or sound immediately suggests there’s something truly special at play. *Glasgow indie rockers Armstrong definitely have lots of commercial potential as well as being the kind of band who can have a huge fanbase, and will judging from the musical sample on their debut EP." scottishfiction.co.uk
"Armstrong is a band with a refreshing gift of genuine talent and the potential to bring their take on alternative rock anthems to a wider audience, especially thanks to their well-packaged fun and infectiously catchy songs"*
Ravechild.co.uk*
"Armstrong’s upbeat music is infectious and it is impossible to listen to their music with a frown on your face"
toxiconline.co.uk*
"This record and Armstrong as a band frankly are an absolute breath of fresh air. Don’t me wrong they aren’t reinventing the wheel here; they have just put new tyres on it and made it run a hell of a lot more smoothly. In a world where indie bands are everywhere these guys have come up with a formula to make themselves stand out. Who would have thought great vocals, melodies and song writing would result in a great record!?" themusicaloutcast.com*
"Armstrong have managed to build a constantly engaging and brilliantly entertaining mini-release that is bound to win them fans. It’s an impressive foundation for a blossoming talent, and it’s certainly an EP worth experiencing."*

Beatles for sale is worth a listen again. Best of the early ones imo. 8 days a week, I'll follow the sun, every little thing and what you're doing are all favourites of mine.
Obviously it can't compete with the quality and innovation of the later ones but it's an interesting snapshot of that point in their development.
I agree Mr W, mostly very good indeed Also With The Beatles is still a great album, although my copy is a bit scratchy now

Not out yet but if Asking Alexandria's new track, The Black, is anything to go by, their new album is going to be superb!
Been listening to Northlane's "Node" a lot lately and really enjoying it.

I really like Islands by Bear's Den. Thought it would be some Mumfords type nonsense but it's actually understated, quite rousing in places (if that makes sense!) folky type stuff with lovely vocals and a few cracking tunes, especially Agape.

A couple of folk already mentioned it but the new James album is superb. A bit more electronic than usual, which is right up my street. That's 2 excellent albums from them in the last couple of years. Looking forward to seeing them in Glasgow a couple of days before the cup final.

As well as all the football I'm missing this month, I'm gutted to be missing this.
Reckon this is up there with the best of the back catalogue by them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8OobMrlvrY
