Lots of authentic Chinese restaurants seem to be sprouting up all over the southside catering for the growing Chinese student community, but mrs bollah fancied an old school western style chinese meal tonight, and had Hot Kung fu recommended. I had it about 4 years ago and not impressed, but gave it another try. Very inexpensive so no big loss but OMG it was barely edible and we ordered quite a few different things. Hard to believe how so much could go wrong, right down to the prawn crackers

    Any better recommendations?
Can attest to Hot Kung Fu being terrible! Where are you based - presuming looking for delivery?

Went to Lido in Musselburgh for lunch today, food was excellent, decent portion sizes and reasonable prices.

Their drinks service was incredibly slow though!

Dorian is excellent. Think it’s probably considered to be in Notting Hill.

It’s more central London/south but Agora at Borough Market is sensational.

I noticed Aizle is closing the doors after a decade.

Cheers, had looked at Dorian as staying in Notting Hill but no tables.

Just back from Cafe Andaluz in Stockbridge. Not my choice as it was a family birthday celebration. Overall it was very good with some fantastic dishes. £400 for 7 of us having three dishes each, two starter platters and a couple of rounds of drinks so not extortionate but not that cheap either.

Don’t know if it falls into this category or the thread about holidays, but we’re currently in Albufeira, Portugal.

3rd visit in 6 years to a fantastic wee, family run, tapas restaurant called Copos & Petiscos.

Sits a few minutes walk from the bustling strip, so fairly quiet and friendly clientele.

Wife and I, first dinner on our own on the holiday. Beers, 2 bottles of very decent wine and enough dishes to cover our appetite (5).

    €98 all in!

The octopus is great, as is the confit black pork with cheese.

Give it a try if in the Algarve 👍🏻

If you like Tapas Indaba in Tollcross is worth a try, a bit of a fusion thing, spanish with a south african influence to some of the dishes, we usually order 8 small plates for three of us, really delicious and a friendly relaxed vibe. Weve been 3 or 4 times now and is becoming a bit of a favourite.

    One in Newcastle too.

They are a big group now. They have Cafe Andaluz, Amarone, Topo La Bamba and Chakkoo in Edinburgh and the same brands in Glasgow. They also have the Citizen, the Atlantic, Anchor Line, Zhima, Panang and Di Maggios in Glasgow. I think they have a few others as well but I can't recall the names off the top of my head.

Zhima is an Asian fusion (although leaning heavily on Chinese) and is very decent. I wouldn't be surprised to see one pop up in Edinburgh at some point in the not too distant future.

Chakoo is a weird one. Went to the glasgow one and thought it was tremendous, everything my group ordered was great, service good and prompt and just a great evening had by all. The Lothian Rd one was poor food, poor service and greasy tables. Almost like franchising gone wrong.

We went in May to the Edinburgh one and thought it was really good, particularly for a chain place. We went on a Sunday and did their Full Bhuna deal.
