When ST sales started for this season a figure like that would have been right up there regarding where the club hoped to be following last season.

A far cry from when I started going to games in the mid 70s when a 13,000 crowd for a game against anybody but Hearts Celtic or Rangers would have had the Hibs treasurer wetting himself with excitement. I wonder if some of our younger fans realise this is a bit of a golden age when over 13,000 Hibs fans are prepared to commit to a whole season.

If anybody thinks different don't compare these figures to England or Germany, but look at European football as a whole ..... the fact is the kind of crowds we will be getting puts us miles ahead of hundreds of professional clubs in Europe and would put us mid table or higher in some leagues considered far bigger than ours, it would make us easily 10th in the Dutch top flight with a realistic shot at 9th if our average could beat 17.500. 5th in Portugal and competing for 13th out of 18 in the French top flight. It would easily make us the 2nd best supported club in Sweden, a country with almost double Scotland's population.

The next time somebody disses Scottish football it might be worth pointing that out to them.
