    Favourite takeaway

    - Cuisine
    - Meal
    - Restaurant

    What's yours?

Generally eat Chinese more often than other cuisines but favourite would probably be Indian, perhaps Italian

Don't venture in to Edinburgh much and being from Midlothian but living in Peeblss I will on occasion take the drive to Itihaas in dalkeith as my favourite for either a rogan josh or ceylon

Used to love the caprice in Musselburgh but not been in years

    Chippy for me.

Not a fan of chineses generally. Always feel horrendous after them although Karen’s Unicorn doesn’t seem to make me feel as bad.

Love a pizza and a gyros as well.

Every Friday night, if we haven't already been out for a meal.

Mostly it will be a Chinese from the Hong Kong at Restalrig. I'll have a chow mein of some sort, skinny noodles. Mrs Jackie has about 3 or 4 dishes she likes - with prawn crackers.

A chippy from the Rig occasionally.

Can't find a decent Indian nearby, we've tried them all and retry now and again.

Indian is favourite. Restaurant for takeaway was St John’s Curry Club but my wife ordered one when I was out recently and the pakora had loads of hair in them which has totally put us off. The best Indian takeaway we’ve had recently was from the Shahi Grill in Juniper Green but they don’t deliver to us. Luckily they are on the way home from my parents in law and sister in laws places.

Favourite meal from St John’s was the Bengali Green Chicken which you don’t get many places (St Johns former sister restaurant In Touch was one of the few). Shahi grill do have it on the menu on their website but it won’t let you order it and it isn’t on any of their Just Eat/Uber Eats menus or indeed their in restaurant paper menus.

Favourite sit in Indian restaurants are Prahna and Rustoms (the half kilo of karahi is ace).

Chinese takeaway we generally go Lucky Chen.

Chippy Barbeque for delivery. Pentland Fry for pick up. Had one from Barbeque tonight and it was disappointing.

    Kebab. Istanbul at Saughton

    Burgers. The Ranch at Bankhead

Chinese more often than not, used to use Lucky Chen but recently switched to Wongs for a takeaway and haven’t been disappointed yet.

Indian, I only really use Eastern Pavilion in Corstorphine as I think it’s far superior to the others.

Chippy, not really my thing for obvious reasons but on occasion I have used the BBQ or the Corbie at D Mains.

Dine Thyme in Brunswick Street for the best takeaway breakfast rolls around when I’m in the area.

Gautams near Meadowbank or the Peppercorn at Piershill? I’ve been going to the Shapla for years but its not a patch on what it used to be.

Another vote for Gautams here. Best Indian in the area imo. Pricey for takeaway but that’s because it’s a restaurant.

Chinese but even the best places seem to leave you feeling crap after, including Tiger In at Joppa and Chinese Flavour in Magdalene (best ones don’t do JustEat, so go explore further!). That said, I’m heading to Cool Jade on Sunday in Corstorphine which we love.

Kebabs / Pizzas from Angelos in Lochend.

Indian from Shahi Manzik in Willowbrae.

Where we used to live we had a pizza/kebab/curry take away and their calzones and pizzas were sensational.

    I’ve lost 13kg since we moved 😂

There's a great Döner takeaway on the edge of Berlin that is my go to on my way home if I can't be arsed cooking.

The wife normally has a Döner Box, which has all the ingredients of a kebab except the bread.

The boy will have a Durum Döner, a kebab wrapped up like a large sausage roll using pita bread.

I normally opt for a Döner Plate, basically a Kebab with it's ingredients separated on a plate with rice or chips as a side.

Still wish we had a chippy though 😛

Have you tried the Elwyn Street food ? Fantastic Indian food, great prices in relaxing comfort. We have been twice and enjoyed every meal. I think the only problem with them is consistency with regards when they are opened or closed. We tried to book on a Friday night a few weeks ago but it was closed however it was open the following Thursday.

They have big plans for barbecue days with an Indian twist as well as having sports on their tvs etc and with plans to use the beer garden more often too.

Desi Pakwan or Mother India for Indian.

    Karens Unicorn for Chinese.

Nok's Kitchen (Castle and Stockbridge) for Thai.

    Best Kebab for kebabs.

Chippy by Spencer or The Fishmarket for chippy.

I never get a delivery, if I want a takeaway I always phone it in, and pick up. We have a few places locally like the Manor House and the Barbecue, that take me 5/10 mins to get to

I used to use Wongs, but my wife loves the Crispy Shredded Beef with Hot and Sweet Sauce from the Manor House. I always ask for extra veg on the Salt and Chilli Chicken Wings

As an aside have you tried any of the Korean food from Wongs yet, I haven’t but would be interested to hear of any of your favourites

Used to love a Chinese takeaway but around these parts the standard is dreadful, Tiger In is the only one worth getting and it's not as good as it was.

Pizza from the Caprice, top notch.

Taste Good or Oriental Express for Chinese, Shandon Spice for curry, although I think that it closed recently unfortunately.

The Hill Station (Indian) has re-opened on Comiston Road (now called the New Hill Station). My son picked up a curry there a couple of weeks back and said it was great.

Like others, I tend to not feel great after pretty much any sort of takeaway. There's a kind of posh frozen food shop called Cook which does curries and we tried them a while back. They were excellent. Well priced, home-made quality.

Take my advice, ditch the takeaways and eat healthy food, you will thank me within the year.

Love a wee Best Kebab House. Their tatties are sensational! Usually a generous portion, especially if you go into the shop. Like their sauces and salad as well.

Best Kebab tatties are indeed sensational, amazing how they can turn a spud into something that good.

I usually get the special chicken kebab, the large is massive.

If you like Korean food, Onggie in Tollcross is the best in Edinburgh.
