I'm not quoting figures dug up from some obscure corner of Google, I'm quoting from the National news on Good Morning Britain which I watched live. Now according to you this is the bastion of truth and honesty with a completely unbiased agenda, are you saying they're lying now I'm lost?
I looked at the Scottish Governments own website, as I said in my previous post it depends entirely on what figures you are talking about. Absolute poverty, relative poverty, poverty with housing costs or poverty without housing costs..?

    https://www.gov.scot/publications/poverty-income-inequality-scotland-2014-17/pages/4/

It is estimated that 19% of children, or 180,000 children each year, were in relative poverty before housing costs in 2014-17. This compares to 17% in the previous three-year period.

After housing costs, it is estimated that 24% of children, or 230,000 children each year, were in relative poverty.

And the latest from the SG and the Child Poverty Action Group.

    https://cpag.org.uk/news/official-child-poverty-statistics#:~:text=Today's%20official%20Scottish%2 0government%20poverty,working%20age%20adults%20(21 %25).

"The latest statistics show that relative child poverty levels in Scotland are six percentage points lower than the UK average – 23% compared to 30% in 2021-24 (31% England, 31% Wales and 24% NI)"

Ohh and they're not handouts, that term suggests the people receiving them are some sort of scroungers, is that what you think?

Any chance we can save the Scottish ***** for the appropriate threads? There's plenty of them....

    Trump anyone?
Whenever I see Starmer, or indeed pretty much any UK politician, harangued over a 'U-turn' (a regular occurrence) it brings home just how much freedom Trump gives himself by never being bound by previous statements. I sometimes wonder whether following suit to a certain extent would actually be a positive thing. I don't mean that Starmer should simply dismiss any or all criticism as 'fake news', but rather than tie himself in knots trying to avoid admitting he's had to back down or compromise, if he simply said, ' Yeh, we didn't get that quite right. I've changed my mind' we might see a more respectful level of discourse.

Not at all. Just pointing out that the sticking plaster approach won't ever spark significant change. Adequate funding for public services is essential if hard-up families are to access the support they need, yet the Scottish government is falling far short here. Sure, public finances are under huge pressure across the UK, but as I said unless Swinney taps into the wealth which most certainly exists in Scotland and uses the devolved tax-raising powers he has at his disposal to fund public services and deliver on his pledges around child poverty (rather than just continually blame Westminster for all Scotland's ills) there won't be any significant improvement.

Spotted a coffee cup with Trump's police mugshot on it behind the reception desk at my local GP surgery today incidentally. There was some sort of 'mug' pun on it that I couldn't fully make out. Would Sturgeon have had a mug shot taken when she got arrested I wonder?

There must be plenty bigger battles in the history of Israel, eg they brought down the walls of Jericho by merely, not for the last time apparently, employing trumpets.

    He hasn't though has he?

You're comparing an elected president to a fringe element of a movement.

For the record it would depend on the context, if Swinney was being as obnoxious and unpleasant as Trump has been then I would want him sacked actually.

If there was some debate to be had over the subject I don't know, it would depend on how I felt about the situation.

Swinney, for all his faults and blandness as a Politician, wouldn't behave the way Trump has anyway.
Trump you would hope would be in prison if he lived here

You should try reading the comments below articles in the Daily Record. It's usually a maximum of three comments before the SNP get blamed, no matter what the subject.

Trouble in the Middle East? Nicola Sturgeon's fault!

Rise in HIV or Malaria? Bl**dy John Swinney!

It's no surprise some people do it on here as well. These people seem to pop up everywhere.

He refers to "we" a lot, as in "we" were fighting.

"We" gave orders to people who gave orders to people to drop bombs from 6 miles up in the sky or to blow apart everything they can see with artillery and tank fire.

    "We" fought? Don't think so.

This **** is getting more unhinged (less hinged?) by the day.

As much as I hate to defend the guy, is it really any different from us referring to Hibs as we. We came third last season. We won the Scottish Cup in 2016. "We" did nowt.

So people are organising themselves to post bad comments about the SNP on the Daily Record online in the comments section, seems unlikely.

I don’t think fake orchestrated comments online is in the slightest bit unlikely.

Twitter is rife with it, no reason news paper websites are any different.

Happens across all the major social media platforms.

Bots, bad actors, political groups, pressure groups coalescing posts to boost certain opinions or takes on news. Been happening for well over a decade.

If you think it's unlikely Jamie, that's quite naive.

As was raised in the Parliament the other day the pro Indy accounts of the Iranian regime on Twitter suddenly stopped the day Israel bombed them. But those comments where quite well crafted and obviously a bit of professionalism to it, I don't think Shug from Glasgow saying he doesn't like the SNP in the Daily Record comments section is in the same league.
