Sounds a bit of an odd choice particularly given what seems very little coaching experience. Would appear on the face of it unnecessarily negative comments from Sexton about Finn which doesn’t really show him in a good light as a character. Possible might be bringing him in so the coach can say Jonny is an expert fly half and he says Owen is best. To me Russell is by a distance the best number 10

As an atheist (necessary caveat I feel), I'm enraged that Edinburgh's game away to Zebre Parma has been brought forward 24 hours to accommodate the death of the Pope and his funeral arrangements.

All Serie A games postponed (a good decision IMO), but URC fixture simply brought forward 24 hours with disregard to travelling fans, player welfare, nutrition, travel and training schedules.

Scotland's Hollie Davidson says becoming the first women to take charge of a European rugby showpiece is "unbelievable" after she was appointed referee for the Challenge Cup final between Bath and Lyon in Cardiff on 23 May.

Davidson has been part of on-pitch officiating teams in the past two Six Nations championships and the 2024 Rugby Championship.
She will also be the first Scot to referee an European final since Jim Fleming in 1998, which Bath won against Brive in Bordeaux.
"When I received the call last week, I actually couldn't believe it," Davidson told BBC Sport Scotland.

Scottish Rugby are committed to spending more than £6 million on upgrades at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, including moving the pitch and a seven-figure investment in toilet facilities.

Chief executive Alex Williamson outlined the ambitious spending plan at a briefing with journalists at Murrayfield.
He said: “We’re spending about £2m on an entirely new surface, including the lights that go alongside that.
“We're putting a new PA and emergency lighting systems to support the safety and security, but also some of the customer experience points and we're spending about £1.5m on hospitality environments and just under £2m on loos.”

Williamson acknowledged the investment will “make an impact” but is not going to solve all of the issues Scottish Rugby face with an ageing stadium.
There has not been a major redevelopment programme on the stadium for 30 years, but Williamson is committed to solving the problems one step at a time.

The Scottish Rugby chief executive also acknowledged significant investment is required if Murrayfield is to compete with other stadia across the UK.
He named the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which cost more than £1 billion to build and opened six years ago, as an example of a modern stadium which can offer more than the home of Scottish Rugby.
As he discussed the idea of more non-rugby events being held at Murrayfield, Williamson said that is a limitation on who Scottish Rugby can attract.
“When I say that I'd like us to be an entertainment centre there's absolutely no reason in my mind why we wouldn't be hosting other sporting events, let's say NFL as an example but equally why wouldn't we have boxing, UFC or major darts events,” he said.
The CEO added: “There aren't many better viewing experiences than here so and the acoustic experience is really good so we're available for pretty much anyone.

It's nice to see planned investment in the stadia and property tbh - there's only so much they can really do if they want to avoid major, disruptive engineering works to completely renovate the stadium, but I don't think it needs a whopping amount done to it.

They're right, that the viewing experience is excellent - there are very few 'bad seats in the house' at Murrayfield. But the supporting infrastructure could definitely benefit from some upgrades. While it's easy to whinge about the loos as a man, it must be utter hell going to Murrayfield as a woman! The queues have always been utterly ridiculous, and the widespread nature of the facilities lacking. I don't fully understand why they don't then operationalise the portacabin toilets they have around The Hive for matchdays, which while being a bit further from Murrayfield's main facilities, would take some pressure off the immediate toilets on the concourses etc.

As a stadium though, it's easy to get to, well-serviced by public transport and has adequate facilities on matchdays (for the most part) to deal with the demand. I do think focusing on the general punters' experience rather than hospitality would be a better use of money though.
