To be fair the article doesn’t even tell you what the question he was asked was
He could have simply been asked “will you be confident of progressing through to the next round?”.

I was at FC Copenhagen v midtjyoulland in Feb . Was close tight game but not free flowing football. Didn't think much better spl game at time . There fans were around 500 but had filled section allocated and made themselves heard. We gave Copenhagen a game 5 years ago over two legs
.Hard draw but not Aston villa. If we can stay in tie over there a full easter road could see us over line.

Looking to be positive, they got beaten by Slovan Bratislava last year over two legs. Slovan Bratislava have just signed Myko, who would likely be our third choice striker this year, if that gives any indication as to the type of player they have.
Their European campaign looked pretty ordinary last season compared to what they’ve done in previous years, highlight would probably be beating USG.

They are owned by the utterly minted Anders Hoch Povlsen, who has a colossal amount of land in the Highlands, along with Aldourie Castle and the old Jenners building. The richest guy in Scotland & Denmark. I guess that’s why a team with an average crowd of under 10,000 can afford to buy up international talent but they have also invested heavily in youth development and have a well respected academy.

Here is a detailed look at our tie that took me all last night to compile .... cough, cough or I typed a prompt into Gemini.
Danish Press Insights: FC Midtjylland's Perspective on the Europa League Qualifier Against Hibernian
I. Executive Summary
The prevailing sentiment within the Danish online press regarding the upcoming Europa League qualifier between FC Midtjylland (FCM) and Hibernian is one of pronounced confidence and a clear perception of advantage for the Danish club. Key sports media outlets, such as Tipsbladet, have explicitly characterized the draw as a "dream draw" for FCM.This narrative is further solidified by the supremely confident public statements from FC Midtjylland's manager, Thomas Thomasberg, who has expressed unwavering belief in his team's progression.
FC Midtjylland's prospects are viewed as exceptionally strong, underpinned by their recent domestic achievements, having finished second in the Danish Superliga. Their established European history, including participation in the Champions League group stage and reaching the Europa League knockout phase, significantly contributes to this confidence. The squad’s quality, featuring a roster of international players, is also frequently cited as a decisive factor. The club's ambitious vision, articulated by CEO Claus Steinlein, extends beyond mere qualification, with aspirations of reaching European semi-finals or finals, positioning this tie as a foundational step in a more extensive continental journey.
Hibernian is recognized by the Danish press as a "traditional" Scottish team that secured a third-place finish in their domestic league. While acknowledging their capability to defeat top Scottish clubs, a critical distinction drawn by Danish commentators is Hibernian's perceived lack of extensive recent international experience compared to FC Midtjylland. The anticipated playing style from Hibernian is often described as possessing "speed and physicality". Overall, the consensus among Danish media is that the tie represents a "golden opportunity" for FC Midtjylland to advance in the competition.
II. Introduction to the Europa League Second Qualifying Round
The draw for the second qualifying round of the Europa League has pitted Hibernian FC against the four-time Danish champions, FC Midtjylland. This pairing was officially confirmed on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, during the draw held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
The fixture details specify that the first leg will take place at FC Midtjylland's home ground, the MCH Arena in Herning, Denmark, on Thursday, July 24, 2025. The decisive return leg is scheduled for a week later, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Easter Road in Edinburgh, Scotland.
A significant aspect of the new UEFA competition format, frequently highlighted in Danish coverage, pertains to the implications for both clubs' European aspirations. The winner of this two-legged encounter will progress directly to the third qualifying round of the Europa League. Crucially, for the losing side, elimination from European competition is not immediate. Instead, the team will drop down into the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League. This provision acts as a valuable safety net, ensuring a continued European journey for both clubs, even if they do not succeed in the Europa League path. This structural element reduces the immediate, high-stakes pressure of this specific tie, particularly for FC Midtjylland, given their stated high European ambitions. A loss would mean a less prestigious path but not the end of their continental campaign for the season. For Hibernian, this provides a significant incentive to perform, knowing that their European dream has a second chance, potentially encouraging a more expansive or less risk-averse style of play.
III. Danish Sports Media Landscape
The Danish online sports news landscape covering football is dynamic, with several prominent outlets shaping public discourse around the Europa League qualifiers. These primary sources include:
- Tipsbladet.dk: This platform is a key indicator of Danish football sentiment, notably for its immediate and impactful commentary, such as labeling the draw a "dream draw" for FC Midtjylland.
- Ekstra Bladet Sport: As a widely read tabloid, its dedicated sports section provides broad coverage and contributes significantly to the overall media narrative.
- TV3 Sport: A major sports broadcaster with a substantial online presence, TV3 Sport offers news and reactions, including managerial comments and analytical pieces.
- Indkast.dk: This outlet provides more detailed analysis and often includes direct quotes from both FC Midtjylland and Hibernian management, offering a deeper dive into the perspectives surrounding the tie.
- bold.dk: Another prominent sports news site, bold.dk frequently features managerial insights and discussions on club ambitions, contributing to the confident tone surrounding FC Midtjylland's prospects.
- Berlingske: A respected daily newspaper, Berlingske also covers sports, including the draw, often providing a more formal journalistic perspective.
- FC Midtjylland's Official Website (fcm.dk): This serves as a direct and authoritative source for club statements and official news regarding the fixture.
The general approach and tone adopted by the Danish sports media are characterized by confidence and an analytical perspective when discussing European football, especially concerning their top clubs. There is a clear emphasis on the "seeded" status of their teams and the potential for favorable draws. The coverage is typically direct, highlighting the strengths and ambitions of Danish clubs while often providing a realistic, though sometimes dismissive, assessment of opponents. The immediate use of terms such as "dream draw" for FC Midtjylland 1 sets a positive and expectant tone for the club's prospects, indicating a high degree of confidence in their domestic champions. It is important to note that some older, irrelevant information, such as Hibs' past matches against Brøndby under a different manager 2 , is not considered pertinent to the current analysis of the FC Midtjylland tie.

IV. FC Midtjylland's Confidence and Prospects
Initial Reaction to the Draw: The "Dream Draw" Sentiment
The prevailing sentiment within the Danish press, particularly articulated by Tipsbladet.dk, is that drawing Hibernian constitutes a "dream draw" for FC Midtjylland. This widespread perception reflects a strong conviction within the Danish football community that Hibernian represents a highly favorable opponent for FC Midtjylland to overcome in the Europa League qualifiers. This perception is largely influenced by FC Midtjylland's seeded status in the draw, which typically pairs stronger teams against those with lower coefficients.
Characterizing the draw as a "dream draw" is more than a mere journalistic phrase; it establishes a powerful psychological tone. For FC Midtjylland's players and staff, this public framing could instill a high level of confidence and reinforce their perceived superiority. However, it also carries the inherent risk of complacency if not meticulously managed by the coaching staff. Conversely, for Hibernian, this immediately positions them as significant underdogs, which could either be a source of discouragement or, more typically for a Scottish side, serve as a potent motivator, fostering a "nothing to lose" mentality. This contrasting framing from the Danish perspective also places considerable pressure on FC Midtjylland to deliver, as anything less than progression would be viewed as a major disappointment given the "favorable" nature of the draw.
Managerial Outlook: Thomas Thomasberg's Unwavering Confidence
FC Midtjylland manager Thomas Thomasberg has expressed supreme confidence in his team's ability to advance in the competition. He is "supremely confident" that his side "will end Hibs' hopes of qualifying for the group phase". His direct statement to TV2 Sport, "Yes, of course we will (win)" , leaves no ambiguity regarding his expectations for the tie, signaling a profound belief in his team's capabilities and their readiness to meet the challenge.
Despite this outward display of confidence, Thomasberg indicates a professional and thorough approach to preparation. He acknowledges the general "speed and physicality" often associated with Scottish football but emphasizes that his team will conduct a detailed, specific analysis of Hibernian's tactics and individual players, stating they have "plenty of time for that". This suggests that while confident in their overall superiority, the team will not underestimate the necessity of diligent and targeted preparation.
European Pedigree and Ambition
FC Midtjylland possesses substantial European experience, despite being founded relatively recently in 1999. The club is consistently described as having "good European pedigree" and being "regular competitors in UEFA competition". Their recent European history includes a notable achievement of reaching the Champions League group stages in the 2020-21 season. Last season, they successfully navigated initial Champions League qualification rounds, defeating Santa Coloma and Ferencváros, before dropping into the Europa League League Phase after a Play-Off Round defeat to Slovan Bratislava. They subsequently progressed to the knockout stage play-offs of the Europa League, where they faced Spanish side Real Sociedad.
The club's CEO, Claus Steinlein, has articulated ambitious goals for FC Midtjylland in Europe. He believes the club possesses the "material and a team" capable of progressing beyond the first knockout game after the group stage, and he envisions reaching "semi-final and in a final with a little luck in the draw and good performances". This highlights a long-term strategic vision for sustained European success, positioning the Hibernian tie as a crucial initial step.
FC Midtjylland's European history demonstrates a clear progression from initial participation to consistently reaching group stages. The comments from CEO Claus Steinlein reveal a new, ambitious "development stage" for the club: the challenge of advancing past the first knockout round after the league phase, a hurdle they have previously encountered. This indicates that the Hibernian tie, while important for securing group stage football, is also viewed through the lens of preparing the team for deeper European runs and achieving their long-term strategic objectives. Their extensive experience against higher-caliber opponents like Real Sociedad contrasts sharply with Hibernian's more limited recent European exposure, further reinforcing FC Midtjylland's favored status and their focus on sustained continental growth.
Domestic Strength and Squad Quality
FC Midtjylland concluded the 2024/25 Danish Superliga season in second place, narrowly missing out on the title by just a single point to Copenhagen. This robust domestic performance underscores their consistent quality, competitive edge, and ability to challenge at the highest level in Denmark.
The squad is noted for boasting "a host of international players" , with specific mentions of Poland forward Adam Buksa and Switzerland's former Rangers' loanee Kevin Mbabu. Attacking talents such as Franculino and Dario Osorio are also highlighted as key contributors to the team's offensive prowess. A significant factor underpinning FC Midtjylland's sustained success and their capacity to attract high-caliber players is the substantial financial backing provided by "the country's richest man, Anders Holch Povlsen". This financial strength provides a considerable competitive advantage and is instrumental in supporting their ambitious European objectives.
Statistical Analysis of Recent Form
Statistical insights from Footboom1.com, based on the last 10 games for both teams across all competitions, provide a quantitative snapshot of their current performance trends.

Conversely, it shows Hibernian's slightly better defensive record (1.2 goals conceded per game compared to FC Midtjylland's 1.5). This direct comparison helps to quantify the "favoritism" expressed by the Danish press and provides a statistical basis for their confidence, while also revealing potential areas where Hibernian might pose a challenge, such as their higher percentage of scoring first.

V. The Danish Press's View on Hibernian
General Perception
Hibernian is generally characterized by the Danish press, particularly Indkast.dk, as a "traditional" team from Edinburgh. While there is an implicit respect for their history and stature in Scottish football, the dominant narrative in Danish media tends to focus more on FC Midtjylland's strengths and the perceived gap between the two clubs in terms of recent European experience and overall squad depth.
Scottish Premiership Context
The Danish press acknowledges Hibernian's strong domestic performance in the recent season, noting their third-place finish in the Scottish league, behind only the perennial powerhouses Celtic and Rangers. It is also highlighted by
Indkast.dk that Hibernian has "previously beaten both Celtic and Rangers in the league". This detail is important as it demonstrates Hibernian's capability to perform in significant domestic matches and underscores that they are not to be entirely underestimated, despite the overall confident Danish outlook on the tie. This recognition suggests a cautious respect for their ability to rise to big occasions within their own league.
European Experience Comparison
A key point of contrast consistently drawn by the Danish media is Hibernian's perceived lack of "international routine" when compared to FC Midtjylland's extensive European experience over the past decade. This is a significant factor in why FC Midtjylland is considered the clear favorite. European competition demands a different level of tactical and mental fortitude, often involving extensive travel, adapting to diverse playing styles, and managing the pressure of two-legged ties. The Danish press implicitly views this as a substantial advantage for FC Midtjylland, potentially weighing it more heavily than individual player quality or recent domestic form. This perspective frames Hibernian as a team that might struggle with the unique demands and pressure of a European tie, even if they are domestically strong. The repeated emphasis on this experience gap suggests it is considered a primary, if not the most significant, reason for the overwhelming Danish confidence.
Anticipated Playing Style
FC Midtjylland manager Thomas Thomasberg, as reported by the Danish press, anticipates "speed and physicality" from a Scottish team. This indicates a general perception of Scottish football's characteristics that FC Midtjylland will likely prepare for. This expectation could be interpreted as a general, perhaps stereotypical, observation rather than a detailed, specific analysis of Hibernian's current tactical setup under David Gray. While these attributes are often present in Scottish teams, relying solely on such a broad characterization might lead to an incomplete understanding of Hibernian's actual strengths or tactical variations. This could represent a subtle vulnerability for FC Midtjylland if Hibernian can surprise them with technical play, strategic nuances, or a less direct approach than anticipated, potentially exploiting a generalized preparation.
Hibs Manager's Response (as reported by Danish media)
While the Danish press focuses heavily on FC Midtjylland's confidence, Indkast.dk notes that Hibernian coach David Gray acknowledges FC Midtjylland as a "strong opponent" but attempts to maintain optimism. He is quoted as stating it is "a really good opportunity for us to test ourselves against a team at this level" and that Hibernian are "ready to fight".Gray also admitted that the draw was "not the desired scenario" and recognized FC Midtjylland's top form, having missed the Danish championship by only one point. He emphasized that Hibernian would undertake thorough preparation, learning "everything about their style, their key players, and their strengths".
VI. Overall Danish Assessment and Predictions
Consensus on FCM Favoritism
There is a clear and widespread consensus among Danish experts and media, including Tipsbladet, Berlingske, and Indkast, that FC Midtjylland are strong favorites to win the tie. This favoritism is deeply rooted in their established European experience, consistent recent domestic performance, and the perceived quality and depth of their squad. The consistent narrative across various outlets reinforces this expectation, positioning FC Midtjylland as the team expected to progress.
Anticipated Intensity
Despite FC Midtjylland's favored status, TV3 Sport anticipates an "intensive" match ("FCM møder Hibernian: 'Det bliver intensivt'"). This suggests that while they expect FC Midtjylland to prevail, there is a recognition that Hibernian will provide a competitive challenge. This indicates that the Danish media does not necessarily expect an easy walkover, acknowledging that Hibernian will likely put up a strong fight, particularly given their domestic capabilities.
"Golden Opportunity" for FCM
The tie is consistently framed as a "golden opportunity" for FC Midtjylland to advance further in European competition. This is particularly significant in the context of achieving their stated goal of reaching the Europa League group stage and potentially deeper knockout rounds, as articulated by CEO Claus Steinlein. This perspective underscores the strategic importance of this specific match for FC Midtjylland's broader European aspirations for the season.
The recurring phrase "golden opportunity" is more than just a positive outlook; it is a narrative that builds significant pressure on FC Midtjylland. Having been labeled a "dream draw" and with their CEO articulating ambitious goals of reaching European semi-finals, the Danish press has set a very high bar for FC Midtjylland. Failure to advance from such a "favorable" tie would be a major setback and would likely lead to strong criticism from the very same media that has built up these expectations. This highlights the double-edged sword of high confidence and favorable media framing, as it creates a substantial burden of expectation on the team to perform.
VII. Conclusion
The overarching narrative emanating from the Danish online press is one of profound optimism and unwavering confidence in FC Midtjylland's capability to overcome Hibernian in the Europa League qualifiers. The draw is almost universally considered highly favorable, a "dream scenario," which has consequently established very high expectations for FC Midtjylland to progress. Their superior and extensive European experience, consistent recent domestic success (finishing second in the Superliga), and the perceived quality and depth of their squad—further bolstered by significant financial backing—are consistently highlighted as the key advantages that are expected to ensure their advancement.
From the Danish perspective, Hibernian is viewed as a domestically strong Scottish side, capable of challenging and even defeating top teams in their own league. However, the Danish media consistently emphasizes Hibernian's perceived lack of recent, consistent international routine compared to FC Midtjylland's established European pedigree. While FC Midtjylland's manager acknowledges the characteristic "speed and physicality" of Scottish football, the general tone in the Danish press suggests a firm belief that FC Midtjylland's tactical discipline, individual player quality, and accumulated European experience will ultimately be decisive. The tie is not merely about winning for FC Midtjylland but about taking a crucial first step towards achieving their ambitious long-term European goals, as articulated by their CEO. For Hibernian, the challenge is significant, but the opportunity to test themselves against a Champions League-level opponent and the Europa Conference League safety net provide a valuable incentive, even in the face of strong Danish confidence. The Danish press views this as a clear and expected path for FC Midtjylland to continue their European journey, with progression being the anticipated outcome.
