Juan Soto to the Mets, $765m 15 years contract. Crazy.

Bewildering. How long is a baseball player's career?

Really just depends, he’ll never play for another major league team after this contract though as he’ll be 41 by then. He’s been in the majors for a wee while now so in his case his MLB career will in all likelihood be around 21 years

Pitchers and catchers have reported for spring training for most teams now, so let’s have a few predictions? I’ll go for Tigers winning AL Central and The Mutts to miss out on the postseason (I’m still bitter yes)

2026 WBC pools are finalised. Tough group for Team GB but I fancy their chances against Brazil and Italy. Keep an eye on the Dutch. I fancy them to be a surprise package.

I see Vladimir Guerrero JR has signed a 14 year, $500M contract extension with the blue jays with a $325M signing bonus and the remaining $175M will be paid in the form of salary.

If they held on until free agency they’d have got him for $350m, in my opinion

    Not a chance!

I'm amazed they got him as 'cheaply'. If they'd been competing against 29 other teams in free agency his price would have been a good bit higher than $500m.

What other team is paying $500m for a defensively poor first baseman with a fraction of the offensive talent of Soto/Ohtani? The Bluejays panicked and they’ve overpaid, no way anyone else would’ve offered him that much money

Poor defensively? He won a gold glove in 2022! Better defensively than Soto for sure.

His deal is far below what Soto and Ohtani got, but it's nonsense to say he only has 'a fraction of the offensive talent'. He's not quite them, or Aaron Judge, but you'd probably put him in the top 10 in MLB at the moment - carrying a poor team on his back. His best years are still ahead.

Don't see why the Jay's 'panicked' seeing as you thought they could get him $150m cheaper by waiting for free agency? Why were they panicking? Salaries have gone crazy in MLB - this is the going rate for a superstar.

Panicked because they hardly want to let him go, he’s their star player. The chance of him signing for the Bluejays for the same amount of money as he could get in LA, Philly, New York? Slim.

Not sure I'm getting the logic here - and he's made it clear he and his family wanted to stay in Toronto.

He almost certainly would have made way more than $500m in free agency if he'd wanted to do that and I'm surprised you think otherwise - all the biggest teams would have been falling over themselves to sign him. An average salary of $37.5 a year for a young baseball superstar is not that much at all, as obscene at it sounds- the Jays will be delighted.

Firstly I’m disgusted to hear that admitted statutory rapist, drugs cheat and Rule 21 breaker, Pete Rose, has been taken off the ineligible list and can now be nominated for the Hall Of Fame.

Secondly I’m very very disappointed that the Phillies felt this was an acceptable position to take and statement to make.

    Horrific.

Looks like the Red Sox have finally gotten fed up of Devers’ attitude. I hope he agrees to learn to play 1B for the Giants, because that’d be hilarious.
