Seriously though, is Trump not just playing to the voters here in his usual inflated manner? Pledging to get tough on undocumented migration was a big vote winner for him (as it tends to be in many countries these days) and he's already reduced crossings from Mexico to a relative trickle by vastly increasing troop numbers at the border.
People hold their hands up in horror at Trump's behaviour, but the 'can you believe what he's done now' reaction doesn't really wash. Everyone knew what they were buying into by electing him. There are years of this to come (unless he dies in office).

As we're discussing the pros and cons of Trump as President...
I totally get the viewpoint expressed a couple of pages back about the fact that Trump's US has not (so far) invaded any other nations. In fact it's a point I raised during his last incumbency as President that, IMO, there had been much worse behaviour by previous presidents in invading multiple other countries (Iraq. Vietnam, etc), overthrowing lawfully elected leaders by covert means (e.g. in Central America) and undermining economies and businesses in countries that were supposed to be their allies.
However...
....it's very clear by now that he was held back in his first presidency by a number of 'Jackasses' (his words) that he appointed to various roles, and he's been determined to get his work done properly this time by only appointing those that are 100% loyal and never question his decisions.
In the last few months, he's done the following:
- Constantly insulted their (previous) greatest ally, Canada, with demeaning, nonsense arguments, even going so far as to describe them as a possible future '51st State'
- Openly discussed taking over Greenland, by force if necessary, and sending his representatives to the territory to pressure/scare the people of Greenland and Denmark.
- Created so-called 'retaliatory' tarrifs against almost every other nation (excluding Russia) that massively tanked the markets.
- Has sinced gone back and forward on these Tarrifs, in a form of bullying behaviour that negatively affected multiple nations, including those traditionally viewed as allies.
- Engaged in multiple instance of illegal behavour, in regard to Tarrifs etc, by giving family and friends an illegal heads-up on when it was a good time to invest (normally this would result in multi-million dollar fines, or even jail), and personally accepting bribes and other favours
- Removed USAID, and other spending, estimated to already having lead to the deaths of tens of thousands of people (who needs war?)
- Filled the Supreme Court with people that bend to his will, thereby removing the traditional separation of State and Law.... and boy has he taken advantage of that!
- Pardoned the Criminals that stormed the capitol, an event that was unprecedented in US history and lead to serious injuries and even deaths of people that were simply doing their jobs.
- Presented a bill to reduce the taxes of the richest people in the US by billions of dollars, and at the same time to reduce spending on healthcare and in poorer communities.
- Rescinded laws and government funding intended to help tackle the world's climate crisis and instead granted multiple licences for mining raw materials that are harmful to the environment.
....I could go on but I'll leave it at that for nowLast edited by Keith_M; 09-06-2025 at 06:57 PM.

Musk saying he regrets his comments about Trump. I don’t know if he’s retracted them yet. There’s a game of 4 dimensional chess going on just now with these two barstwards.

I see a pattern that was evident in the early days of Putin's Russia, where massively rich oligarchs dared to disagree with Putin and suffered pretty serious consequences (prison, exile or mysterious deaths).
Putin's climb to power was actually bankrolled by some of these people and many of them, if they were lucky, lived to regret it.
Sound familiar?

Elon’s dad attended a summit in Russia and basically said he’d have to say sorry.
It’s all utterly depressing
