Which seasons were our goals conceded so low? When he played with players like Hanlon, Ambrose, Macgregor ?
IIRC our best defensive season was when we came third under Ross - when Porto was our main player in defence next to an ageing Hanlon and Paul McGinn

Lol. Paul Hanlon was only 30 that season. Hardly “ageing” no? Although I guess that every being on this planet is ageing from the moment they are born.

He was generally solid that season but I remember him beginning to slow down a bit, and having a few poor games compared to his peak around 2016-2018

Northern echo running with the same story that Sunderland are looking for over £1m for Triantis . I wonder how much more than a million they might want ? …

We were ready to pay 1M for Mcgowan. This is a no brainer. Vente will fund most or all of that fee.

£10m for Motherwell. Yet another club who are pulling away from us in terms of finance. We’ll be lucky to make top 6 next year.

The south of France and Champions League football obviously holds more appeal than Burnley and a relegation battle.

Our defensive record that league season is our 2nd best* since we won the league with the Famous Five 75 years ago!

    *top flight only obviously

Surely everyone in this group is taking Marseille over Burnley. Huge club with a really good manager and young talented squad. Champions league football, living in the south of France. Absolute no brainer for me.

Fair enough T . I just thought if it was say 1.2 then it would be doable but if it was going upwards of 1.4 then maybe that would be reaching a point where its going beyond what we might be able to do . I suppose it does boil down to wither he fancies a different challenge or the security in he knows our club and he’ll get regular game time at us if we agree a fee of course .
I genuinely think this singing is about as risk free as they can get right now. Only way we wouldn't at least double are money in a season is if he had a horror injury. Spend the money get him in on a long deal with the guarantee that he can move on once his valuation is met.

Don’t think they’ve announced their departure list yet. Can only imagine there’s a load they will be getting rid off to make way for these new superstars.

Always surprises me how many players they seem to recruit every year - as a player joining them, you pretty much have a season to perform or you're gone. They must have spent a pretty penny on payoffs over the years.

Xavier Simons was up last week but is also talking to other clubs. Should be a decision very soon.

It is still the waiting game with Nectarios Triantis and on Rocky Bushiri’s contract.

Hibs are also interested in a versatile defender from England who has previous Scottish Premiership experience.

Ryan Porteous would be dependent on Rocky Bushiri’s decision.

Hibs tried to get him in January but haven’t renewed that interest this summer.

They could, however, if Bushiri was to decide he was to move on.

I'm sure they have, there wasn't many out of contract McKay and Grant were 2.

Is the other defender Jason Kerr? Or a random guess is Hakeem Odoffin, previously of Hamilton

Played right of a back 3, centre half and defensive mid

Not sure Kerr would be described as versatile.

Been told it is Odoffin. Dundee United looking at him too. Also been told it’s likely that Rocky is away. Hopefully the latter isn’t true.

Disappointing if true about Rocky though not unexpected as he will probably have better offers than what we can offer. I don’t really remember Odoffin tbh .

Looks like you’re right. They’ve released 5 and still have a squad in excess of 30.

Odoffin would be a good signing. We wanted him when he left Hamilton and has done well down south. Rotherham wanted to keep him.

Its getting to the levels of the days of Mad Vlad. McInnes will be doing well to try and get some harmony into a bloated squad of that size. I wonder if he’s thinking “WTF have I come into here?” yet?

Signed the contact and away to celebrate with holiday? ;)

Imagine if he was just away down to Sunderland he wouldn’t fly.

It’s a total rag tag bunch of misfits. He has no spine of a team and even worse if he loses Prentice and Shankland. They are so scunnered that they are getting super excited signing 20 year old 2nd division unknowns for -£400k cause the supercomputer told them to. The whole fan base has a new endless level of knowledge around “analytics” and “player trading model”. McInnes must wonder WTF.

Imagine being told a year or two ago that Ryan Porteous was the back up plan if Rocky Bushiri didn't sign a new contract.

Porteous got dropped for a 4 game spell that season because he had a poor run. He was also pipped to YPOTY by Doig, who was also part of that defence. Hanlon played more minutes and started more games whilst captaining the side to third. He also made his international debut at the start of that season.

To claim Porteous was the main man is revisionism in the extreme.

I am not surprised in the slightest by that. Porteous as much as I rate his ability and talent as a footballer. The guy is a liability and needs to grow up. Rocky I always thought there was a player in there who would come good for us.

It’s not “revisionism in the extreme” to hold the opinion that Porteous was our best defender that season. It’s probably akin to someone having the opinion that Rocky had a better season than Iredale this year or vice versa, it’s simply a subjective opinion. The whole defence was excellent that season and he was major part of it. Revisionism would be trying to play down any of their contributions to what was one of our best seasons defensively in our history.
