I've generally been behind Clarke and championed him to stay despite the poor euros

Yesterday was probably the first point where I've thought "does a change benefit everyone?"

We're too talented in the middle of the park to let this group just fade out of love playing for Scotland.

Result aside, the selection and then performance were baffling. Mckenna, doig, hendry and Bowie/Wilson should all have started on come on for at least 30 mins

We know what Robbo, McTominay etc give. Last night was a lose/lose situation when the teams were announced and weve come out with worst case scenario. Stubbornness got Strachan in the end, it might go the same way for Clarke

I was at the game unfortunately and it was a terrible performance.

As you say, baffling selection and stubbornness from Clarke. The midfielders all looked done in and more than ready for a break after a long season. Why not give opportunities to players desperate to claim their place in the team and excited for the opportunity?

There was a period before our subs were eventually made in the 2nd half when Clarke went to the bench and there was no one in the Scotland technical area at all. The whole thing looked completely directionless.

The crowd were actually decent until our 'second' was ruled out for VAR. Then folk started to drift away and the moans and groans became more audible - with good reason too.

Good to see him being as adventurous as ever. WTF. I’d actually have thought a bit more of him if he’d started Slicker tonight, give the guy a chance to restore some confidence after Friday.

Nah, guy was horrific. Why would he persist with him after he looked miles out his depth.

Knowing the Hampden crowd, we'd have fully got behind the new guys had we been a bit more adventurous and given them some game time.

Turning to tonight, i thought we'd have at least given the newer guys at least 45/60 mins over the 2 games given they've effectively given up their summer holidays. When are we back? Late June? That's just over 2 weeks away. As I said in my original post, stubbornness might take him out

Presumably he must have something to be called into the squad in the first place, otherwise why not select Doohan before him.

    His excellent league form?

Unrelated, but most of the lads in Clarke's squad know it doesn't matter how they perform on the pitch at their clubs because they will be picked for the next squad.

To have genuine competition for places you need people to know they're playing for one.

He was our u21 keeper and it looks as if he was brought along for the experience to save having to try to call up a more experienced keeper with holidays booked to sit on the bench. Then 2 of the keepers got injured. I'm guessing of course but can't think of any other reason. Although who can 2nd guess Clarke after starting Grant Hanley the other night.

Not for the first time with Clarke, this game has been made completely pointless with that line up. Learn nothing and plod on, he deserves every bit of flak that he gets.

And if he goes on to have a good club career and gets back into the international setup his abiding memory will be of his horror show on Friday. Start him tonight, let him gain some confidence instead of throwing him under the bus as Clarke has done.

I don’t think you learn anything from this game full stop. Totally pointless, looks like a nice wee place for a trip for those who have bothered though.

I’m hoping (but not really expecting) Bowie and Doig to at least get the second half, probably get on about 88 minutes if at all

Absolutely. It’s guys like him, not that we have many, who should be getting chances in the national side.
