More delays getting to home games

Looks like the council are planning on making Smokey Brae one way up the hill only and further changes around that area.

They seem to be suggesting one of the reasons is to allow the fire engines out quickly but that station is about to be closed permanently!

Makes little sense to me. It’s better the way it is.

More severe than this is potentially the long delayed work at demolishing multiple buildings on the A1 then building the student accommodation. Chaos ahead at this part of town.

This the same Smokey Brae that a handful of cars go down but is a permanent traffic jam nearly every day going up the way.

Who makes these decisions? You really have to wonder. It was the same nonsense with Manse Road bus gates which was a disgraceful money making exercise they ended up going back on.

It really is absurd. Manse Rd was an utter shambles, there was no need for what they did at all. It was idiotic decision making.

I don’t mind them trying things and then going back if it doesn’t work. At least they listen to evidence. Would be worse if they didn’t.

Although not related to ER but the closer of Corstorphine Road down to 1 lane (not each way, 1 lane with temporary traffic lights) is going to cause absolute havoc. It's on for 6 months.

The most frustrating thing about a lot of these works is how often you pass them with no one working. It was the same in Stockbridge recently. Whether that’s down to the workies just deciding they’ll finish early or not having the materials/equipment available doesn’t really matter. Just highlights poor planning/supervision of the work. The recent Stockbridge works were a whole month over the set timeline

Think yourselves lucky, Dunkeld to ballinluig duelling of the A9 going out to contract soon. That's 8 miles of disruption on a major road with unsuitable alternatives for anything but cars, even though trucks and buses will attempt it.

This will be the A9 that was meant to be duelled initially by 2025 now 2035 and so far only managed 11 miles out of the 89 miles in 15 years

Scottish water doing repairs, or this delay is for luxury apartments being built on the old tennis courts at Murrayfield.

Tennis club still open with their new courts, and further along the road from the works happening.

We should just admit that we've made a complete arse of the roads in Edinburgh over the last few decades, go back to how it was in 1980 and start again.

I heard that on the radio yesterday, I'm glad I don't live down that way anymore. Be brutal for commuting into and out of town.

How many cars did we have in 1980?

Opening sentence: Smokey Brae is an important link between communities in the east of the city, from London Road at Jock’s Lodge to the historic village of Restalrig.

CEC answer: We're going to close Smokey Brae to cars northbound

Edit to add: For what is possibly the first time in my life I've written to the Council to ask them wth they think they're doing. I'm turning into Victor Meldrew.

I didn't have any, I was 7.....joking aside, clearly we have more cars so why are we reducing the number of lanes to accommodate a few cyclists (in a wet, windy & bloody hilly city) and closing roads all together. Look at the utter shambles they've made of Picardy Place, York Place and Broughton Street. Then there's the West End, Haymarket & Roseburn. Rip it up and start again!

Do they think the cars are just going to disappear? They will just block up the other roads around that area.

As the above post says, a lot of people have absolutely no inclination to start cycling yet everywhere you go now roads are being narrowed and turned into 1 lane for traffic to accommodate more cycle lanes.

Not according to the debate on Radio Scotland

    From Google

Why is there a row over Scotland's longest road? - BBC News
The A9 dualling project aims to upgrade 83 miles (133 kilometers) of single carriageway between Perth and Inverness. Two sections, totaling 11 miles (18 kilometers), have already been upgraded. The remaining 77 miles (124 kilometers) are still under construction according to the BBC.

Everyone will turn left up the wee roads that lead to The Hoppy and the roundabout at Lochend Road South will get even more gridlocked. Utterly bizarre decision.

Total length is around 273 miles.

    That's from Dunblane to Thurso.

The 40 miles from Dunblane north are fully dualled, the section north from Perth to Inverness is a mix of dual and single carriageway, 28 miles is dual the rest, 83 miles is single.

There are no plans to dual any more road north of Inverness.

So, 68 miles out of 144 are dualled so far.

I was a bit late in my analysis. I have been involved in the past.

So I am correct that only 11 miles have been upgraded to dual in this latest dialling which was meant to have been completed this year which has been delayed until 2035

Not this year, a chunk north of Perth was completed in 2021 or 2022, delayed due to the pandemic.

Don’t think they’re building on the tennis courts, they knocked down an existing house to build the apartments.

No mate it was an old house in large grounds as long as I’ve been around here (30 years). Yeah it’s horrendous at peak times.
