Yeah and at the same time a lot of us thought he was a crap signing from day 1 and that he’d never cut it with us.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Same with loads of our signings since the Gordons took over.
Hopefully these days are in the past and we’ve ditched the whole idea of buying development squad players or whatever the Hell we were doing.

Watched him in the play off final and he couldn't have looked any less interested. Maybe he's fallen out of love with football or going through some personal issues but he's a player that'll be long forgotten by our fanbase.

How much money have we wasted on Kenneh?

I'd never go out my way to defend Nohan Kenneh, who seems (as others have said) to have lost his zest for the game.
But in fairness to those who took a punt on him, he had been the third midfielder in a fairly successful England youth team alongside Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musialah (before Musialah declared for Germany)
You can see why an analytic approach might have brought him under consideration.

Lots of very good, some great players, don't progress from youth level for lots of reasons. To use that as a reason to not sign guys like Kenneh makes no sense. What we need to do is ensure we are getting a better success rate when we do sign players like this, with better recruitment and better development. I don't think we alone have this issue, it was just much more exacerbated and visible here by trying effectively to buy a whole teams worth of development players in one go, it was one of the bits Ron Gordon really underestimated the difficulty of creating this in a short time, the actual vision was not the problem for me
The development squad for me has to be the right direction for us, the bridge between youth and first team, but it needs work and investment, and again needs the right people buying and developing. Without it our chances of growing to where we want to get to are much less in my opinion, and it is exactly the model Bournemouth follow and their CEO is always talking about.
It is no coincidence that everyone is talking about player trading as the way forward, its not new, its proven to work down South, with some of the smaller teams too. It is harder up here as we are not able to sign the same quality, and we are now losing lots of the young quality before they make it to any development squad, but the team that really gets this right will be the team that has the best chance of heading the pack in my opinion.

Really? He was a free transfer was he not?
If you’re just referring to his contract, loan fees will have offset that to some extent.

Dearie me.
Some posters don't half get caught up in the nitty gritty.
Kenneh has certainly taken a whole lot more from us than what he has given.

He's been here 3 years, so even if it is purely wages, that's less than £4k a week. IIRC he had a few options when we signed him so it probably wouldn't be that unfeasible that £3k-£4k a week is what someone coming from a club like Leeds would command (even as a youth player). He probably got given a decent signing-on fee too.
That would be offset by any contributions from the clubs we've loaned him too but I can't see the likes of Ross County paying that much for him.

Kenneh most certainly came with 'hype', he was an England youth international that was quite well regarded in PL2 and I even think Leeds were interested enough to try and keep him but he chose to come try and get himself playing as Leeds was proving difficult for him to get game time, but also the wage for 3 years probably meant he was happy to come as well. I don't know what other offers he had in England but the club were certainly happy to have landed him and he was certainly identified and signed before even Lee Johnson turned up.
He isn't the only one that picked up silly money in that period of our recruitment. Jair is close to that wage as well without knowing the specific amount which is why getting rid of him has proven to be difficult. How much we've managed to get back in loan fees or covering any of their wages is anyone's guess, but at this point it's been nothing short of a waste of probably £1m+ between those two alone when you account for everything spent by the time they're both gone.

Sunderland have signed midfielder Enzo le Fee on a four-year deal from Roma after a successful loan spell with the club
According to reports in January it was mandatory signing if Sunderland were promoted for a fee of £19.23M.
They got him in on loan for the promotion push but whether he's good enough for the PL we'll have to wait and see. He's now become Sunderland's record signing and they had no choice after agreeing to make the transfer permanent as part of the loan deal.
that's a Big Fee, for Fee

Kenneh was fined a week’s wages by Johnson, he proceeded to tell his teammates what his fine was. That info got out. Hence the figure I posted.
