I can’t believe there are folk that give us no chance of progressing in a tie that hasn’t been drawn yet.

We’re obviously going to need a wee bit luck in the draw but there are going to be ties that are winnable along the line. There will be winnable ties in there.
Exactly. Lee Johnson managed us through a tie against seeded Luzern.

Was seriously pissed off yesterday but it’s eased today. We done all we could and fair play to Aberdeen beating Celtic in a cup final.

Looking at it, winning 2 ties out of 3 in whichever competition maybe isn’t as far fetched as we think. Yes, we need a favourable draw but I’m a bit more confident we have an idea of better players to bring in and SDG has the squad in a good place. Fingers crossed we can do it and shove it down the throats of those who are enjoying our bad luck

I wonder what the stats are (capital Greens ears hopefully pricking up as I type) for unseeded teams beating seeded teams in this round.

In the last couple of years I’d expect the seeded teams to have a high % of progressing but I really doubt if it’s a 100% success rate for the seeded sides.
Only one of the eight ties last year. Elfsborg beat Sheriff.

    Ajax Netherlands 4–1 Serbia Vojvodina
    Ružomberok Slovakia 0–3 Turkey Trabzonspor
Wisła Kraków Poland 2–8 Austria Rapid Wien
Kilmarnock Scotland 1–2 Belgium Cercle Brugge
    Molde Norway 5–4 Denmark Silkeborg
Corvinul Hunedoara Romania 0–1 Croatia Rijeka
Braga Portugal 7–0 Israel Maccabi Petah Tikva
Panathinaikos Greece 6–1 Bulgaria Botev Plovdiv
Sheriff Tiraspol Moldova 0–3 Sweden IF Elfsborg

There's always a chance. We aren't a small club and we have a manager who gets the best out his players.

We are really well suited to playing "better" teams, much more effective without the ball which is how we will have to play in Europe.

    Whatever happens, I'll be there.

Not negative just realistic. I'll obviously support hibs with everything I've got. However, young boys are a vastly experienced European side compared to us.
Didn't realise the draw had been made yet.

Are you not paying attention? We may as well just withdraw as we have no chance.

See post #45 above - if Basel win cup (which they should) then Lugano are possible opponents.
    was going by

2025–26 UEFA Europa League - Wikipedia

so young boys will get route we should have got if it had went to plan and lugano will get same as us

The issue we have is that alot of these sides (pretty much all from looking at the list) have a lot of European experience, whilst looking at our record we don’t. When a draw is made many of us instantly look at the clubs’ European record on wikipedia.

Of course we have to start somewhere, but looking at some names and thinking they are beatable, only to look at their track record and who they have faced in recent times and it suddenly looks trickier.

Apologies if this sounds negative, the stuffing has been taken out me a bit since yesterday, but I firmly believe the key is catching a side at the right time, even if they are a bit more well known/experienced.

In terms of the bigger teams being mentioned, obvs hard to progress but for away day potential:

Midjtylland - not great, hard place to get to in Denmark.

Braga - decent, not far by train from Porto or Vigo in North of Spain.

Dynamo Kyiv - good, flights to Dussedorf or Cologne then good train network in Germany.

    Legia Warsaw - good.

    Anderlecht- good

Cluj - more accessible than I might have thought- flights via Dublin or London.

I’m in Albufeira on the date of one of the legs. Just been having a quick look and I see they’ve selfishly decided to place Braga in the furthest away point in Portugal from where I’m going to be. Even by train it looks like it’s an ordeal to get to.

If we happen to draw them I’ll maybe get in touch to see if they can move it somewhere a bit more accessible for me.

Even Chisinău for Sheriff would be good. Ł300 return ish and would be cheap when there.

TBF you can get cheap flights from Faro to Porto - then its only an hour on the train away to Braga, so not too bad!!

I had read that Sheriff had been granted permission to play back in Tiraspol, but looks like it was actually blocked by Uefa so you're right, would prob be ok if they play in Chisinau!

So far as I can see, we now have Braga, Young Boys and Anderlecht as seeds. Shakhtar, Partizan and Legia Warsaw to add to that providing they win first round ties. Plus two other winners of first round ties.

Guessing, at this stage, the two unknowns might give us the best opportunity to progress looking at that list.

This has probably been covered but I’m just trying to get it all straight. Bit of luck definitely needed with the draw.

Scotland's Coefficient website has just posted an article on their website which says the following:

Four teams will be definite possible opponents as they enter in this round (Braga, Midtjylland, Anderlecht and Lugano), however the other four teams are only a ‘projection’ based on club coefficient assumptions. The assumption is that teams with the higher coefficient progress from EL QR1 (Shakhtar, Legia Warsaw, Partizan Belgrade and Sheriff).

He is normally spot on with info and he's just updated the article an hour ago....

According to the article our estimated squad value (15m Euros) is almost twice that of Sheriff Tiraspol - so that would be our best chance by some distance.

Legia and Partisan have 2x higher estimated squad values than us - so we should make those games competitive. Midtyland and Lugano 4x higher, Anderlecht 6.5x, Braga 8x and Donestk 11x.

I'm not having that. I'm confident if we got the Moldovans we'd beat them. I'd fancy us against Partizan as well.
I think we're a good side at the moment and whilst wouldn't be favourites I wouldn't write us off against any of them.
Best draw for me would be Sheriff

    Agreed.

May also depends on when our opponents league season starts.

If we are a week or two ahead of our opponent in terms of preparing for the new season, that could be a huge leveller.

    Cheers.

Braga, Shakhtar, Warsaw and Anderlecht beat us. On the plus side, some decent trips.

The others, I think we’d at least have a chance. We’ve beaten a Swiss team recently who aren’t dissimilar to Lugano and competed with a team from the Danish league previously. Partizan are a name but not done anything over the last couple of years in Europe. Sherriff, we’d have a chance against.
