Anyone play with a mini driver?

Been looking at the TM Brnr for a while and they seem to be in fashion as a few pros seem to carry them now and other manufacturers are bringing one out.

Driver has always been my weak point these are shorter and feel like a 3 wood with more distance and hopefully control, the shorter the club the better I hit!
I have a 3 wood stiff shaft on a ping G410 driver head. It seems much easier to hit and my driving has improved no end with that combination.

Obviously not as long, maybe 10-15 yards shorter but i'm much straighter and in play most of the time now.

Few months into my membership at lundin. Can’t seem to get to grips with scoring round the place! I’m an 8hcp and I’m struggling to break 85. When the wind blows it’s so so tough and it just seems so narrow!! Anyone got any tips for taming this beast?

I play gullane 1 a lot and find that a far easier course, both off the white tees.

    Welcome to my world!

I joined Archerfield at Christmas and am suffering the same particularly round the Dirleton

I am off 6.6 usually pretty straight and not prone to big numbers but here and to a lesser extent Fidra can't keep one or two off my card per round.

Also a member at Dunbar which doesn't cause me any such problems other than the very odd trip over the wall at the 7th trying to bite off too much.

Did consider this for my driver. See what happens as I’ve bought a mini driver 😃 will give it a hit at the range to see if it’s any better.

I played in a Seniors Open Scramble on Tuesday when the winning score was an astounding 21 under par which is the equivalent of 15 birdies and 3 eagles.

    Further words defy me.

I’m only playing once a week but weathers been hard and we’re a links course so little chance of scoring well. First 4 rounds have been handicap counters so up to 11.5..Hopefully weather behaves and my irons get to where my driving and putting are but cant expect too much if i don’t practice :-) If i can get to 10 again at some point i’ll be happy enough.

On a positive the course is in immaculate condition, greens are perfect.

That is just cheating, they should be named and shamed.

I've not long got home from my fourth day running at playing. 79 Monday, 83 tuesday, 80 Wed and 81 today.

I am happy with my game but could putt better, supposed to play tomorrow at 09.15, but my whole body aches from my ankles to my neck. I'm saying I wont play in the morning, but I know come 7am when i wake up, i will be like a young puppy bouncing out the door.

One of my issues with scrambles is you could have a scratch golfer playing alongside three high handicappers and other than 9 drives, the scratch golfer can effectively be playing off a decent handicap. However that would not account for a net 21 under par!
I have never seen it used but I gather there is a scramble format whereby whichever player's shot is chosen, that player does not play the next shot, only the other players in the team. Sounds like a format which is less open to abuse.

My club Turnhouse used that format for our opening day comp. They called it a Florida Scramble.

I wasn't that keen on it if I'm honest but can understand the thinking behind it.

Net 52 won on the day

Having a similar issue at my new club Craigielaw this year. I was off 10.2. Now risen to 11.

    88, 86, 95 (I found every bunker on the course that day), 82, 92, 86.

It has been very hard to adjust. Maybe our previous courses are easier. Although that 82 was fairly decent I suppose.

Craigielaw. Don’t go chasing pins. Middle of the green every time. You’re only two putts away from par.

I played at Craigielaw on Thursday and found it really tough even although I was striking the ball well.

Very hard ground conditions made it difficult to hold the greens from any distance.

They have great off course facilities though!

Anyone played Strathmore? On paper looks decent enough. I’m heading up to play their Open on Sunday.

Played it last month and it was in great condition. Fairly short but tight course. Very well run place

Nice. Robert the Bruce is lovely this time of year. Gorse as far as the eye can see from some vistas.
Looks like my back might have a say this weekend unfortunately. Horrendous at the minute.
On the plus side £60 winging its way to me from Haddington last Saturday. (Included no less that 5 three putts) best Ive hit it in a long long time. Typical my body isn’t happy.

Breakfast rolls at Craigielaw are off the scale! And yeah as club houses go they have a lovely one.

Played there recently for the first time…once I realised that I wasn’t capable of hitting and holding the greens from any significant distance I managed to score quite well.

100% though to be good around there then your short game is going to have to be very good indeed.

KRTB was a great track. Premium for accuracy of the tee. Bunkers were penal.

No wonder Trump coins it in though - £26 for 2 teas and a couple of rolls

Shotts unfortunately is a shambles. Never seen nor played on so many disease ridden greens. Every last one of them. Very very poor. Linlithgowshire county should have moved their spring handicap elsewhere. I’m at Niddry Castle for Linlithgowshire Senior championship later in the month and reports are it’s not much better. I hope they are listening.

Mate says Greenburn is the same with disease maybe not quite as bad.

I’m at Deer Park not that far away from them and it’s in superb condition.

My mate played Kinross a few weeks back and said that the course was generally immaculate but that the greens were a shambles.

What sort of disease affects greens? I’d have thought they’d all be near perfect at the moment.

Definitely a fungal disease. I’ve heard it called snow mould?

    That’s the one.

Usually caused by walking on frozen turf but poor drainage and saturatation can cause it also it’s pretty wet in the central belt.

I played Niddry Castle today and scored a personal best of 94. Some of the greens were a bit burnt because of the weather but they have been watering them. The course was in good nick IMO.

(I love the Tee shot on 18 there)

I used to play out there quite a lot - I had a mate who was a member there before he moved away. I’ve always fancied going back for a game.

What are the “new” holes like now they’ve had a bit of time to bed in? It always felt like 9 lovely old holes and 9 where it felt a bit bare, like you were hitting it around a field. I’d expect the new holes to have matured a bit by now and for it to be really quite nice.

I’d feared a bit for the club for a while as I think it was struggling. Pretty sure they had a costly court case as well, after someone was injured being hit by a ball at close range (I think it happened at that green near the 18th tee). All the new houses being built out that way will have surely been quite useful for them.

Good memories of that course though.

Yeah, it's almost like your playing two different courses. Some of the back 9 are a bit like that (not like hitting around a field but more open) but on others, the trees have obviously grown up since then and given the other holes some shape.

It seemed relitively busy, the layout is a bit mental in places and I can see how accidents can happen. It's a nice wee humble golf club.

Having a frustrating season so far. Feel I’m playing fairly well but just can’t put a decent score in. Handicap creeping up a bit new putter seems decent and I’m still not sure of the mini driver I got but I do like it. Just a couple of poor holes seem to wreck my round.
