He’s no on that in about a months time though.

He won’t be able to command anywhere near that amount in his next contract, unless he gets lucky with a deal somewhere abroad like the middle east or the MLS
He could get a job as an EPL no 3 keeper and still earn miles more than we could offer.

    You're right. A self-perpetuating circus of B-list players.
Harsh, Leeds & Burnley have some great players.
Conway & Doak currently play with Boro, Azaz also a top talent.

Some really good players have come from the Championship over the years.

    Mr Poppadom hands? No!
If Angus Gunn came to Hibs he'd be in the conversation as one of the best keepers we've had in the last 25 years.

This idea that he's ***** because he's conceded some goals for Scotland is mental to me. He's a step above guys like Zander Clark and Liam Kelly who are fairly okay keepers for this league. He's probably at least been on par with Craig Gordons peak over the last 6/7 years as well, if you had ever offered me our own version of Craig Gordon i'd have bitten your hand off for it.

All the noises suggest that Alex Paulsen is likely to be coming anyway

I reckon a 29 year old international will quite easily get that again down there when his contract expires. Ridiculous amount of cash swilling about in championship
He couldn’t get his game for a mid table championship club, normally the next move is down the way when that’s the case and that’ll reflect the wages he can command.

First five competitive games for Scotland he only conceded one goal in five wins Norway away

He's played 34 games out of 45 so far in the Championship this season and 40 the year before. I wouldn't call that "couldn't get a game"

A few months ago I'd have a keeper as a top priority.

Now? I honestly think we could do far worse than Smith as #1.

That's what I thought when we signed his old man

If we can improve on what we have then we should look to do so. That applies to every single player. I’ve no idea how good Paulsen is but if he is better than Smith, tough as it may be, we should be all over it.

We'll need a keeper for next season, so if the possibility is there to bring in a good one (I've no idea if Paulsen will be good or not) then we should do it.

I'm a massive fan of Smith but totally agree. It’s surely exactly what the link-up with the Black Knights is for as well, bring in players that we think will improve our starting XI.

Have to assume Paulsen would only be a loan.

I think it's always good to try and get better than you already have currently. It's not always possible but if we think Paulsen is someone who can come in and make us better than we should take it, even if it turns out he's similar to Smith it at least might keep him honest and on top of his game knowing he's there waiting. The issue is whether BK want him to be sitting watching Smith from the bench instead of playing himself.

No ones position is ever really safe if better is available.

I just don’t see Gray dropping Smith next season if he continues playing well for the remainder of the season which leaves with what you say in … will BK’s want to see a player sitting on the bench? .

While we all want better players the other issue I have is if we take in Paulsen and play him and Smith is on the bench it’s likely Paulsen will move on after a year and we haven’t helped our own player that’s under contract to get better .

That's always the case with loans though, would you rather we'd stuck with NMW instead of Triantis this season?

Yup. For me, loans should always be players that you can't really afford to buy that come in and make your starting XI better. Else, what's the point really.

I was one of a few that did want Triantis back as I seen enough to think there was a player there . Paulsen I’ve never seen but what I’ve seen of Smith he is IMO probably one of the top two keepers in our league and I wouldn’t really want to see the progress he’s made been effected by putting him on the bench .

I do understand what you mean, but the reality is if someone is seen as better (at least on paper in every way) and possible then it's up to Smith to give us the reason to keep him starting. Never seen the lad either so could honestly not say if he is or not.

If we were able to bring in an Angus Gunn for example (not happening, but humour me) then I wouldn't pass up the option because of how nice a lad Jordan Smith is.

Similar to next season I'd like to see Bowie make the step up into more of a focal point of our attack consistently, but if someone offered me the chance to go get another proven goalscorer then he has to perform to keep his space.

Where I’m at with it is wither we take in Paulsen or just say Gunn since you mentioned him . It’s my opinion that if Smith keeps playing like he is then he should keep the jersey.

BK’s will want Paulsen playing and it would be incredible harsh to drop Smith who’s arguably the current best keeper in our league. I’m just not sure Paulsen joining on loan would suit all parties . In saying that it still could happen .

Smith is decent enough and has improved with game time, but it's definitely a position we could look to improve on.

Yeah I do agree, current form makes it hard to drop him for sure. I also don't think it would serve anyone well for that lad to come in and not play either so unless they think he's an obvious upgrade that justifies dropping Smith then I don't really see the point in bringing him in at this point.

My prediction though is that we find perhaps another number 2 type of keeper on loan or on a free and Smith will continue to start anyway. Either that or we go all in on the idea that Murray Johnson becomes our number 2 with a view of playing him in certain situations down the line, although I'm honestly not sure that's the right approach currently and a proper loan will serve him well.

    Think that’s incredibly harsh.

Think his name and that he was signed from Stockport is going against him.

He’s been brilliant this season. Even in our latest game against Aberdeen his save again Dabbagh was superb and I don’t think many in the league make that

If he had a more exciting name or previous club I think he would be viewed differently.

He’s been absolutely fantastic since coming in and is a huge part of our turn in fortunes

Be a big fan of this! Looks to be out of contract in June.

Though mainly plays as a left winger, not sure how good a wingback he'd be. Can play upfront as well though.

Charles Cook is a good player.

Wonder where he’d play in our current formation as he routinely played off the left for Ross County.
