Of all the shortcoming of Hibs teams over the years, it's been the lack of belief and drive that has scuppered us. Which is what makes this team all the more astonishing. Full of guts, drive and resolve. No idea what SDG is saying to them but it's great to watch.

Did we have a long unbeaten run with McLeish in the old 1st division? Sure I seen a post earlier mentioning it?
    Scottish League Division One 1998/99

    22 games undefeated

Earned a record number of points 89

We did have Sauzee and Latapy

So isn’t that the record then 🤔?
Avoiding defeat against Stranraer Ayr and Clydebank not really comparable to the current run. But yeah to be strictly accurate its longest unbeaten top flight run.

Due to our fantastic run it is being overlooked that we have won our last 7 home games including Clydebank in the cup.

Something like for 20, against 3.

I could be wrong but it must be a while since we achieved that in the top flight too.

Anyone got the patience to dig around in the history books to find out?

Edit: actually not all that long. Lennon's team won 7 in a row at home in 2018.

It’s almost poetry though right? 150th year as a club, player who scored the goal to win us the Scottish Cup for the first time in 114 years as manager and we’re on our longest unbeaten run since the 1940s.

Add into the mix we’re playing some amazing football and have a player closing in on 100 goals for us.

    What. A. Team

Love that the last three games have shown a bit of attacking swagger at we're rattling in the goals, but this defensive record is incredible - the best I've seen in my 35 odd years following us.

They've made a mockery of anyone who approaches these 'next five games' threads with any modest expectations. The Celtic/Dundee United/Hearts run, even this Saints/Rangers/Dundee spell when you'd be well aware dropped points were a possibility somewhere - we're getting above and beyond.

If they see this out, it's one of our finest achievements. If something goes wrong, still shouldn't diminish that November-December has almost saved this club from the dark times it could have been heading for.

Would be nice to get the cherry on the cake by making history and making it a record of 18 undefeated in the league in the top flight but will be praying for anyone but Celtic away in the next fixture

Presumably the all time, any division record of 22 games from 98/99

  15. #44
Incredible achievement made even more incredible due to where we were earlier on this season. That its been achieved when the Tornadoes and other great Hibs teams didn't is partly due to a level of work ethic and commitment from every player I've rarely seen in Hibs teams.

It would be nice if Hibs would update the club website to include the new record, but maybe they’re waiting till the end of the season. https://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/club/h.../club-records/

My Uncle Barney watched the 1948 team and he was there today. He’ll err on the 1948 team side but having spoken to him recently he’s enjoying the current team.

Patrick McPartlin of Hibs observer did a brilliant article about the 47/48 team and run before winning the League. Didn’t realise Willie McCartney the team manager since 1936 had suddenly died of a heart attack in the January of that season. What a job he did including signing 4 of the Famous five. Article here not sure if subscription required

1947/48 was quite a season, it seems. We'd only lost 3 of our first 12 games, then went on to beat all the teams in the league. This includes some teams that no longer exist, such as Third Lanark, Airdrieonians, and Rangers.

Hearts split the old firm. They finished 9th but Celtic were 12th.
    Nice touch.

Won’t see Hibs go this many games unbeaten, in the top league, again. Unbelievable. One thing I can’t quite believe though is that, despite this run, we’re only 3 points clear in 3rd!

    2 things contributing to that:

    1) Our horrendous start.

    2) Aberdeen's great start, and their relatively unnoticed resurgence (only Celtic have beaten them in the last 8).

I can't quite work out how Dundee United have got up there with both of us though.
    Mon the Hibs.

In retrospect giving Aberdeen a 23-point head start was a tactical misstep

I see that has our longest unbeaten run as 24 games back in 1942. That was wartime obviously so not sure what league or cup games it includes

Exactly celtic will play St Mirren 1st game
    Agree!

Stolen from another thread, Celtic are due 2 home and 3 away post split. They won't want the Old Firm game when Celtic can win the title against The Rangers, so you can rule them playing in the 1st game. Same with the second game to avoid any chat about The Rangers giving a Guard of Honour to welcome onto the pitch the new Champions. It won't be the final game of the season, nor the 4th game, which is being played in midweek. So the Old Firm game will be the 3rd game, all assuming that Celtic have won the title by that date. So, it'll be the easiest fixture for Celtic in the 1st round of matches, which should be St. Mirren at home.

So, the Celtic fixtures will be:

Round 34: St Mirren - Home
Round 35: Aberdeen or Dundee United - Away
Round 36: The Rangers - Away
    Round 37: Hibs - Home
Round 38: Aberdeen or Dundee United - Away

So, I think we'll be away to Celtic midweek on 13/14th May, live on TV. It will be Celtic's last home game, but not sure if they'll be allowed to receive the trophy then. The downside of this is Celtic away to either Dundee United or Aberdeen in the final game of the season, which could be a reserve team played assuming they are through to the final the following weekend.

I also think they'll give The Rangers the hardest possible fixture, which will be away to Easter Road on weekend 26/27th April, again live on TV. So, it'll be the New Firm derby that weekend too. All three matches live on TV, if that's possible.

So for us, it could be

Round 34: The Rangers - Home
    Round 35: St. Mirren/Aberdeen - Away
Round 36: Dundee United - Home
    Round 37: Celtic - Away
    Round 38: Aberdeen/St. Mirren - Away

Ate the fixtures not generated via some computer ?

Seems to be all the rangers v Celtic dates to avoid are like a human is dictating
The outcome of the competition and it’s not totally random. I understand the police issue etc but the whole thing seems a bit fixed.

What are you suggesting? That somehow The Rangers and Celtic are somehow treated differently from all the other teams?

Never play each other 1st game of the season.

    Rarely play each other midweek.

Never play each other last game of the season.

Can't be allowed to play each other when the title is to be won ?!

Rangers making 10 changes yesterday to starting line up as they value Europe more than the domestic competition.

Rangers and Celtic having home ends at Hampden Stadium.

All sounds like SFA membership integrity.
