Rachael Boyle's still one of the best ball playing midfielders in the league, not to mention the value of a player with her experience brings, I'd rather a new deal.

Could see Clachers coming back, she won't want to sit on the bench at City.
Rachael has played less football in her 3 year Hibs contract than Kyle Magennis did.
Like Kyle, Rachael is a very good player but Hibs women can't spend what scarce resources they have, for full time players, on a 33 year old who barely plays.

I'm sure you know far more about the ins and outs of the womens team finances and structure than me so I apologise if i'm well off the mark. Also suspect Rachael played for many years for little in return so it's probably unfair to compare her with KM. Suspect she has also done a lot of work behind the scenes for the womens team over the last few years.

Clachers coming back would be great. Strange that she signed such a long contract at City. Does she have any monetary value? Can City recall her if their No1 gets injured?

Hibs up for 3 awards at the Womens Football Awards.

    Best club of the year
    Beat fan engagement
Coach of the year for Grant Scott

Glasgow City and Hibs the only Scottish clubs to make the club of the year shortlist alongside the likes of Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.
PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

Yeah, that's an apples and oranges comparison. Magennis never put a run together in the team, and has always been a sicknote player. You can't compare him to the club captain, one of the beating hearts of the team and, still one of the best midfielders in the league who's just had a bit of bad luck (remember part of the reason she missed football is because she was having a baby, it wasn't injuries).

No players really have much monetary value at this level yet, a loan back is just as likely as anything else as she's not going to take the City no.1 spot anytime soon.

Rachael is nowhere near the level she was. She is very much at the end of her career. Only the very best in the women's game play to a decent level post 30.

    Why is that ?

Without wishing to stir up a hornet's nest, some of the Hibs women don't quite look the part of professional athlete's shape wise. Is it down to fitness and conditioning that women don't play past 30?

Biological changes in body shape, add that to her also having 2 kids, longer time to recover from injuries etc. Kim Little is still playing at the top level but she was / is a world class player and a supreme athlete.

Boyle was interviewed on the Behind the Goal podcast, she argued the time taken out to give birth could be beneficial as her body actually gets a break from the continued stresses other player's bodies are.

Given the infancy of the women's game at a professional level, there aren't really any case studies to say whether she's right or wrong, so she's putting forward a valid argument. There are very few players with her history, so we can't say when her career ends based on the examples of others.

We will see a departure from the previous earlier retirement age for players as the rise in professionalism continues and always access to better support, resources, and equipment. It will be less the reserve of the very best and become more of a norm.

Up until fairly recently the women all had to have jobs or go to college/uni. They weren't professional athletes as they weren't full time or paid. The advance in recent times is massive for them, this season I see a big turnaround in their physicality and stamina and that's down to their hard work and I guess the availability of time and facilities for them. It's not that long ago that they played on the public pitches at Broxburn. It'll be interesting to see the next generation of girls coming through who will have grown up with similar opportunities to the boys.

I didn't appreciate they had been full time for such a short period of time.

I don't think playing on public parks is an issue in terms of conditioning and fitness, but I agree that the coming generations of Hibs women players will surely be more athletic, benefitting from professional culture and training from a younger age.

I'm not sure on the timescales - it's one of these things where I'd say two or three years and in reality it's six or seven but I believe Kit Gordon was instrumental in bringing the women under the Hibs umbrella and getting them into East mains to have the same facilities and access to personnel that the men do. Hopefully the girls coming through now and in the future will show the benefits of what the current squads have worked hard to gain. I think the futures definitely better for the women's game.

She's no longer one the best players in the league and when she has been playing its been to fill gaps in defence - rather than provide the quality she used to in midfield. It's a real shame but I dont see any point in another contract. The key for Hibs next season is CBs. We need 2 starters.

Scotland women terrible tonight - I know it was Germany but some complete basics.

Incredible they don’t have proper manager yet.

Some of the defending was so bad.

Feels like the national team is going backwards.

We were there. Absolutely dismal. The kick off tactic of chip it up and hoof it as high as possible can GTF.

Scotland have been regressing for quite some time, sadly.

One of my daughters stays in Bristol and was at the England game. 5-0 win over Belgium with a bit of a makeshift side. Nearly 25k there too. The game down there is just on a different level.

The German finishing was stunning to be fair. They also just looked a lot sleeker and fitter.

Been like that for years. The girls and women’s game has progressed from not much to where they are but they have really hit a brick wall last few years and it’s a shame as you see English women’s football pull further ahead.

Athletic development and coaching not good enough in Scotland bar the few exceptions like Weir and Cuthburt.

The coaching staff in the Women’s set up and youth teams are all about who you know.

Last manager left start of December and 5 months later no manager !

The who you know culture has stifled development at youth level in a number of sports.

Hibs' Eilidh Adams missed a decent chance last night incidentally.

i see the game v Hearts is getting played at Meadowbank on Sun due to the men playing at ER on the Sunday as well, pity, the game will get a much reduced attendance. 12:10ko so still time for those attending to get around to ER if they desire :)

It’s a shame they couldn’t have played this yesterday, they deserve a big crowd. Twos home wins on the same day would be good though.

Really disappointing to throw that away. Had a good chance to go 2-0 up not long before the equaliser.

missed out on the chance to go top again tonight, apparently celtic keeper was the difference, unfortunately those two defeats v Hearts have done a lot of damage to any title aspirations they may have had.

still can't be bad if disappointed not to be a few points clear at the top and at least still splitting Rangers and Glasgow City at this stage

    Celtic 0 Hibernian 0
    Glasgow City 1 Rangers 2
    Montrose 3 Aberdeen 2
    Hearts 2 Motherwell 0
    Spartans 1 Dundee U 0
    Queen's Park 0 Partick Thistle 1

    fixtures this Sunday

Hibernian v Rangers... a chance to get over that recent hammering
    Hearts v Glasgow City
    Motherwell v Celtic

Absolutely - if anyone had suggested at the beginning of the season that we would be sitting in second, a point behind Rangers with a handful of games to go
it's unlikely that there would have been a chorus of agreement.
Given the disparity in resources the team has been absolutely magnificent.
