    Don’t expect much from Starmer.

Leaving Starmer open to potentially carry an olive branch isn’t the worst idea.

We’d all love to tell Trump to F off, which is why we’re not at the absolute pinnacle of international diplomacy.

Now would be a good time to find out details of Trump's indebtedness to Putin. Was it money or snaps, for example, that led to the slavish devotion to Putin's cause?

Z basically walked into an ambush and had to either touch the forelock or responded in kind.
This should have been a meet and greet and the harsh, hard words delivered behind closed doors. Instead they tried to, imo, humiliate him in front of a world audience.
Countries that once considered the US to be a steadfast ally must now surely realise that a Trump led USA can no longer be depended upon and the UK and EU need to pull together like never before.
The fallout from this disastrous meeting will be playing out for some time to come and in the meantime Putin is laughing his bits off.

Absolutely Europe can fill the gap. The Ukrainians can hold the lines as they are just now and I don’t think Russia’s economy can last much longer. It’s easy to think of it as stalemate but Ukraine can last longer. They are not losing as many men and their economy is backed by the EU.

You’ve been banging on for months about the imminent collapse of the Russian economy. Yet here we are and nothing has really changed. The Russians will keep going as long as they can still man the machine. A long way to go before that well dries up.

I believe the European economy can outlast the Russian one, yes. Russian interest rates are at 21% just now. That’s not a sign of rude health.
Ukraine has two choices, surrender or fight. Not really a choice at all.

I never said their economy wasn’t in a dire state - there’s no doubt about that. But its been deteriorating for a while - and still they fight. I don’t see it being a factor in the war ending any time soon due to it though.

Heartbreaking seeing Zelensky ambushed by these two gangsters today. Vance is an absolute snake. Great to see the European responses tonight. Time for swift action now.

Just watched a fuller version of the meeting …….. incredulously, it started off with one of the assembled Mafia thugs berating Zelensky for not wearing a suit, saying he was being disrespectful. I’ve never felt so much anger and hatred for Trump’s circus and am saddened that a convicted criminal, proud and unashamed misogynist and sexual predator can turn world peace on it’s head. Jeremy Bowen on the BBC news even suggested that the whole thing, from start to finish, might have been stage managed to undermine Zelensky and send a message of support to Putin.

There’s a phrase along the lines of “slowly, slowly… then all at once”.

For a very long time now there has been nothing but bad news for the Russian economy and it’s only been propped up by ever more desperate measures.

The only hope for the Russian economy is Trump.

And re war finance… as the American door closes, keep a wee eye out for an incredibly significant Norwegian one opening.

Europe need to keep stepping up, which of late they have been doing.

I fully agree with you. This was a planned stage managed ambush to put him in an untenable position.
Zelensky had little option but to respond as he did, otherwise he would have come over as weak and give the impression to the watching world that he was going to give in to whatever Trump demanded.
It would likely not be the case when they got behind closed doors, but first impressions are vital to Trump and his thugs and he wants pay back big time.

****ing Newsnight allowing more airtime to that Carla Sands horror, whom Victoria Derbyshire interviewed the other week.

Parroting bull**** about Ukraine being the most corrupt country in the world, that Zelenskyy is an authoritarian, and that the US won’t fund “another yacht for him”.

These times call for serious debate, not this ****ing juvenile reality TV bull****.

It’s absolute gaslighting. I’m horrified at what’s going on in the world just now. It’s like some sick dystopian nightmare.

It’s actually staggering how successful they’ve been. Trump in the White House twice, and now doing their bidding in the most transparent way possible.

The UK out of Europe and the continent fractured, with a significant right wing presence in government in most countries.

All thanks to their Twitter bots and owning the likes of Trump, Musk, Banks and Farage.

And all in less than a decade. Unbelievable.
Yep incredible how successful they have been. Good summary. Our media will have accurately reported all this so the people are informed as they possibly can be. On the other hand….
