There will surely be the possibility that cases for treason could be built by those in the vicinity of Trump and co, same for the supreme court judges etc? It almost feels to me like a pre-emptive strike in the name of the nation's best interests and the greater good would be more palatable than letting the place fall to the nutcases?
Will there not be some very scary people on the inside who Trump will be very much getting on the wrong side of? These people could be clever, heavily armed and organised.
There is possibly a point of no return that hasn't yet been reached.
Risky (particularly whilst public opinion remains on Trump's side) but arguably necessary at some point, if not now?
What happens going forward with the FBI will be very interesting indeed. If he successfully manages to neutralise them, well...

I'm not generally comfortable with allowing things to get worse for people so they change course, but as things are just now, it looks like the alternative would be even worse than that.
So, it might turn out that the reckless, feckless and rapid-fire way infrastructure, services and finances are being attacked might work out better. People will quickly see detrimental change, and that seems to be more likely to shake folk out of their complacency than a more cautious drawn-out destruction of the civic state that people would become desensitised to.Last edited by s.a.m; 26-02-2025 at 08:28 PM.

Generally I am VERY anti-gun.
But is there potentially a chance that the potentially incredibly disaffected - heavily armed and dangerous - could form an incredibly strong and scary bloc of opposition to a hypothetical government and military who were looking to subjugate them?
Thus, eventually justifying what have always seemed to be irrational laws on firearms?
Trump (and subsequent dictators) only prevent this by either actually improving peoples’ lives or at least chucking them enough scraps and ruling with enough fear (not so compatible with cutting defence and police budgets) to keep the hordes placid?Last edited by Smartie; 26-02-2025 at 09:16 PM.

I’m also convinced he’ll do far worse things than that over the next few years.
I read a Trump-sympathising commentator say recently that the thing that many people don’t understand about Trump is that it’s the shock factor in the things he says and does that he relies on.
Hardly a massively astute point, as we all know that he constantly and deliberately courts controversy.
But the much more sinister side of that is, when you go for shock value all the time - and your rabid base always laps it up - the only way you can keep going is to do things that are more extreme and more shocking. I shudder to think where we might end up.
Since January 6th, aided by many of the Supreme Court justices being so corrupt, we’ve basically been watching a coup in slow motion. Now he’s in the White House he won’t be giving that up for anyone - and the loyalist maniacs that he’s put in charge of all of major departments and agencies will make sure he doesn’t have to.
Let’s see how far he pushes his immunity too.Last edited by Stevie Reid; 26-02-2025 at 10:17 PM.

[QUOTE=Stevie Reid;7906029]I’m utterly convinced that Trump will make sure he stays for a third term, and that won’t be by fair means.

Maybe we'll find out if unconstitutional acts count as 'official acts'.

It was a clip from a podcast where Donald Trump Jr was questioning why the Americans picked the side of Ukraine in this conflict, saying that if anything they should have been sending weapons to the Russians, given Russia’s size, nuclear weapons, natural resources etc.
Even by their usual standards it was staggeringly stupid and quite chilling.

Trump has apparently said that if he was president the October 7th Hamas attack would never have happened,
The guy is way beyond delusional, he's full scale straight jacket material.

Sooooooo.
I’ve been utterly depressed by the state of the world the last few days, predominately because of Trump’s stance on Ukraine but it tentatively looks like Ukraine could be ok in the next couple of days.
Starmer has obviously kissed his *rse with a state visit but could it be that Trump has played a blinder?
He has said that any deal could involve the return of some lands to Ukraine.
I’m speechless about the about turn in the last couple of days for Ukraine.
Could he be a good negotiator??? I know this will be cat nip to many

I think there is a lot of hysterics over Trump, some deserved but some is way over the top.

I don’t think there is a deal out there that Putin can agree to but we’ll have to see. If Trump pulls off anything successful then fair dos and I don’t care what damage he does in America. That’s on them.
So far though I haven’t heard home mention a single thing Russia has to give up?
