no idea who he is, but he gets my vote :)

Friedrich Merz tells the TV debate panel that his top priority is to "strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that we can be independent of the United States of America" on defence.
"I would've never thought I would need to say something like this on television, but after Donald Trump's statements last week it's clear: this American government doesn't care for Europe."
Merz then brings up how Elon Musk has "interfered" in the German election, calling it "drastic and shameful - similar to what we've heard from Moscow in the past".
Elon Musk enthusiastically endorsed the AfD last month.
    This is a good result.

Pretty sure he does. It's just that lies work better for him and his Make America Gullible Again base.

The headlines will all be about the AfD getting 20% of the vote, when really it should be about the 80% of Germans who firmly rejected far right politics.

Decades of propaganda from birth works
I think it's more to do with the fact the former East is struggling to find its identity in a democracy. They've suffered a brain drain since the wall fell, even though the quality of the infrastructure in the East has overtaken the West, there's still far more East West relocation than West East and that amongst women more so than men. Living through 2 consecutive totalitarian regimes will also have had a role to play in the results.

Factcheck: Wasn't it just the silence afterwards he paid for, rather than the dirty deed itself?

REPORTER: You focused on what Ukraine has to give up. What concessions will be demanded of Putin?

HEGSETH: Hmm. I would start by saying that the arguments that have been made that somehow sitting down at the table right now is making concessions to Vladimir Putin, I just reject that outright.

REPORTER: Yes, but every “peace talk” so far has been about what Ukraine has to give up – territory, NATO aspirations, sovereignty. So what exactly is Putin putting on the table?

HEGSETH: Well, I don’t think it’s fair to say that we’re just giving concessions to Putin.

REPORTER: Okay, is he pulling out the Russian troops? Paying reparations? Admitting war crimes? Or is his big “compromise” that he’s just taking less from Ukraine than he originally wanted?

HEGSETH: Look, negotiations require both sides to make sacrifices.

REPORTER: Yes, but only one side has launched a full-scale invasion. If a guy steals your house and offers to give you back half of your living room, that's not a "compromise" - that's a hostage deal.

HEGSETH: I just think it's time for diplomacy.

REPORTER: Diplomacy is great when both sides want peace. But when one side just wants a "pause" to recharge, that's not diplomacy - that's setting up for the next invasion.

HEGSETH: So you're saying no negotiations, just endless war?

REPORTER: No, I'm saying that a peace agreement where only one side makes sacrifices is not peace - that's a better saying for surrender.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

Trump has made a statement that he will re-establish trade with Russia.

We have to accept that the USA is allied with Russia and will soon be helping fund Putin's war machine and maybe even supplying him with sophisticated weaponry.

BBC’s diplomatic correspondent James Landale: “If you want a measure of the scale of the transatlantic rift, consider this: I am told yesterday was the 1st time since 1945 the US voted with Russia & against Europe at the UN on an issue of European security. Just let that sink in."

"The US voted with Russia, DPRK, Belarus, Sudan & others at the UNGA against a resolution backed by a host of countries (EU, UK, Canada, NZ + others) which blamed Russia for invading Ukraine & supported Ukraine's sovereignty & territorial integrity.”

"This was not a loose word by a member of the administration that could be walked back. This was not a maximalist opening bid by a disruptor president. This was a deliberate action by the US to side with a country the UK says poses "the most acute threat" to its security.”

"We are often told to judge Donald Trump more by what he does than what he says. Well, last night the US chose deliberately to highlight its differences with Europe on the floor of the UN at the same moment the continents' leaders were seeking to find common ground."

I saw a famous American show. Can’t remember what it’s called, but the guy is quite famous and in sure it’s a mainstream Saturday night show.

He showed a clip of Trump criticising the Canada Trade deal and Trump saying it’s the worst deal ever.

Then showed a clip of Trump sighing the very deal he was slagging off and saying it was the best deal any president had ever delivered for the US.

    Absolute clown
