In that case I give you Jock Stein.

I don't know if there were political sensitivites around Stein but as a man who achieved a bona fide first then he was far more deserving of a knighthood than Southgate.

If we say that life is full of "what if's" imagine what could have been possible if he had stayed with Hibs a bit longer. We may well have won the league and cup that season.

I lose respect for anyone who actually accepts an “honour”.
    It's a strange one.

I know a couple of people who have had MBEs and OBEs for services to charity and/or community. They accepted because it is one of the few ways that people are recognised in an official capacity in the UK and they felt it was good PR for the causes they support. I don't hold any grudge against those who accept.

I would like to see the whole antiquated system replaced with some kind of people's award. Locally nominated and selected and strictly off limits to anyone who is a political donor. If the establishment want to continue their backslapping and politically motivated honours system that has arguably devalued the whole thing then let them but create an alternative so that those who might be inclined to refuse can still be recognised.

I would like to give an award to PB for (once again) posting my exact thoughts on the matter, but doing so much more eloquently than I ever could

Going by the latest opinion polls on independence. It shouldn't be too long before we get rid of this, order of the British Empire nonsense and the parasites that uphold it

It's an anti-England thing, that's all. Guy did a great job.
But won the same amount of trophies as Steve Clarke.

Sir Steve has a nice ring while we are at it.

Getting Scotland to two Euros in a row surely is the same as Gareth getting England to two finals?

Stevie Carr from this website deserved it wholeheartedly, Gareth Southgate makes a mockery of the system. Every country in the world has a recognition system, I'd bet there is people in each country that didn't get them complaining about it. Like every competition it probably is unfair and undemocratic, further ours like Holland, Spain, Scandinavia is linked to an outdated system. But then again if Scotland was socialist like I want, it would be a probably corrupt socialist system picking the favourite people
