Slovakia still drawing 0-0... 🤞 we're just over 20 mins from pot 2 for WC Qualifiers. Please hold on Estonia
Are we not actually better in pot 3. Can't be bothered checking the teams but sure pot 3 is strong.

I had a Quick Look and probably not. Not a great deal in it though. Getting out 1 would have been a game changer.

The size of their country you would suspect. That was a once-in-a-millennium team they had.

Slovakia and Czech both won, so I think that means pot 3 for Scotland in the WC draw.

None are particularly easy, however neither of them games would be harder than the 3 we just took 7 points from.

Not sure who my preference is really.

Greece took England to joint points while the other 3 came second best to teams I feel we are at least equal to. Turkey give me the fear slightly though.

    I would probably close Ukraine.

Hungary 1 - 1 Germany … late penalty for Hungary and by the letter of the law it was though thought it was harsh… Handball rule is just daft now .

Groups are drawn in a few weeks so it would be irrelevant.

I did however just read that some World Cup qualifier groups will have winners of ties rather than set teams due to nations leave fixtures. I couldn’t my head around it though.

“ But wait ... Depending on how many teams need to play promotion and relegation playoffs, FIFA may have to juggle the pots slightly. For instance, if there are too many teams in Pot 3 who need to have March free, then a swap with Pot 2 or 4 might be needed. That's probably an issue for another day...

One more complication? As the UNL quarterfinals don't take place until March, eight of the 12 World Cup groups won't know their full lineup until then. Four of the groups with four teams will get "winners of quarterfinal tie," as they must be free for March and June. Four others get "losers of quarterfinal tie." Only four groups will be complete as of Dec. 13.”

If we win that game we retain our place in Euro Nations group A, lose and we are relegated to group B

Does anyone? I had 5 live on in the car last night and they said Israel had been relegated from the Nations League top tier despite beating Belgium. I thought Scotland were in the top tier, yet I don't recall them playing either of those teams?!

I'm more concerned where we will be in March, that's far more important imo.

The nonsense part is anyone taking the time to figure it out and make sense of it. 😁

Mexico vs Honduras was a great game today. Some nice skill on display and a bit of argy bargy in extra time. What’s not to like?

Miller having a great game for Oz. Was decent in their last game too, right wing back in a back 5.

    Definitely his best (only) position.

Hope Gray tries a back 5 in Dundee.
We have 2 RB's at the club who cannot defend but still play 4 at the back, need to go to a back 3 to allow them to play to their strengths.

Really could do with a wall chart to get my head around all this.

Decent breakdown here. We're a 4 team group for WC Qualifiers

We're extremely unfortunate to end up Pot 3 looking at those list of teams. Groups of 4 and 2nd place only gets a playoff.

Aye it's a killer imo. Best chance might again be via the Nations League

Don't think that's an option for the World Cup. Euros only!
I thought I read somewhere that the 4 best performing teams from Nations League that haven't auto qualified for WC join the euro play offs in March 26

Yes, you are correct. I'll delete my post as factually incorrect.

    From the BBC:

Does Nations League affect World Cup qualifying?

Four teams will qualify for a play-off to reach the World Cup via the Nations League.

They are the four best-ranked group winners who do not go on to finish in the top two of their World Cup qualifying group next year.

With teams in the top Nations League division highly likely to qualify for the World Cup through European qualifying - and many teams in the second tier too - it gives an extra incentive for teams across Leagues B and C.

By finishing top of Group B2, England are extremely likely to have a World Cup play-off spot banked, with the same situation facing Group B4 winners Wales.

Northern Ireland top C3, which gives them at least a chance, but Scotland are not in the running to get a play-off spot through the Nations League.

The four teams who get into the play-offs via the Nations League will be put in with the 12 teams who finish second in their World Cup qualifying groups - with four spots for 2026 up for grabs.

Seedings for the World Cup qualifying groups will largely be decided by Fifa world rankings - and not Nations League finishes.

The exception is that the top seeds will be drawn out of the teams who finish in the top two of each League A group - plus the four top countries by world rankings.

England's world ranking of fourth, third in Europe, means they are highly likely to be top seeds despite not having been in League A.
