    Edinburgh Restaurants

Following on from the recent restaurant reviews thread and a video I saw earlier of a guy from a YouTube page called ‘Topjaw’ interviewing an Edinburgh chef..

    What’s everybody's..

Best restaurant in Edinburgh - Rollo
Best value restaurant in Edinburgh - Chez Jules
Most overrated restaurant in Edinburgh - The Ivy
Best bar/pub/cocktail bar - The Bailie
Best coffee shop - Artisan Roast
Top of your list to try - Cafe Pomelo

I'm going to Chez Jules soon so looking forward to that.

I asked Artisan Roast for some strong espresso beans a while back and the stuff they gave me made something akin to dishwater.

I'm barred from The Bailie as we seemingly upset some regulars by daring to have fun at Christmas a few years ago.

    Don't know the others.

Best restaurant in Edinburgh - Timberyard
Best value restaurant in Edinburgh - Mosque Kitchen (the one actually at the Mosque)
Most overrated restaurant in Edinburgh - Tattu. Style over substance, a restaurant designed for instagram with food as an afterthought.
Best bar/pub/cocktail bar - The Guildford
    Best coffee shop - Beatnik
Top of your list to try - Dutchas on Great Junction Street
PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

Used to go their after football training in 80’s, then moved to the Kinleith
Are these 2 still run by the same lady/family?

Big John had the Riccie back then, not sure about the Kinleith. Which is no help whatsoever 😂

    The Ivy is over-rated everywhere.

Have you got any Gordon Ramsey places in Edinburgh? They are utter guff!

I’ve never been to any other Ivy but I’m not surprised to hear that

I got a voucher for the one at St Andrews Square. It was absolutely crap.

Looking at other posters replies, Tattu and Chaophraya are good shouts in the overrated category and Noto is excellent as easty suggested. If you like Noto then Tipo, which is the same chef, is also very good

I’ve heard good things about Chez Jules.

Looks a bit like Pierre Victoire used to be like when it was only on Victoria Street.

Not so accommodating if you don't want food. For drinking only, the Woodhall is better in Currie, although I'll concede the Riccie has real ales on draught.

I went to the Glasgow Ivy last month and lets just say I won't be back. Definitely one for the Insta crowd.

As posted elsewhere would highly recommend the lunch menu at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street kitchen St Andrews Square 3 course £22 every course cooked to perfection Excellent Value Ask for tap water and watch out for the Service Charge Avoid at all other times and steer clear of his Hamburger joint in St James’ Centre or whatever it is called now another rip off place is a shambles

I’ve been to the Birmingham, Westminster and Liverpool Street ones. Loads of boil-in-the-bag rubbish in each!

Cotè Brasserie is a similar set up.

And don’t get me started on the ubiquitous Brake Bros crap that you get in London pubs!! I blame Brexit.

Really ? You must have had a bad experience sorry to hear that it happens

Definitely my go to place for lunch but just my recommendation based on my experience

Lots of recent five star reviews on trip advisor a few not so good as well

I am a big critic of their normal prices and their Burger joint but their lunch is value and a nice place to catch up with friends or treat the other half

Will be up for the St Mirren game but staying at Livingston M8, looking like south Queensferry have put their prices up.

Anyway, my mum likes her fish supper so was thinking about going for dinner on the Sunday, Googled it and looks like Bertie's on Victoria street is the best?

Bertie’s is very good like most things that The Vittoria Group do. My business partner was the Group Chef for Vittoria Group , he designed the kitchen layout, the menu and trained all the original staff in the kitchen. The menu has stayed pretty much the same since he left, tbe methods have also mostly remained the same so it’s still pretty much as good now as it was when it opened going by what different people have told. It can get very busy and be pretty noisy when it’s full but overall very good if not a tad pricey.

Anyone know what the script is with Vittoria’s Leith Walk / Brunswick Place ?

Is it a separate entity now half and half or still owned by the family?

Passed the other week and the signage was confusing to say the least

Worth reminding folk that they still do discount for ST holders at all branches

Same place and owners, it's just been split into two distinct sections, normal Vittoria is as it's always been and the Brunswick Book Club is more of a bar/bistro section

The Vittoria restaurant has now moved into what used to be the party room on the Brunswick Road side, the Book Club occupies the other side.Still owned by Vittoria group.

First really positive feedback I’ve heard about this place. Went with my wife not long after it had first opened. Average at best, very underwhelmed, service was rubbish as were the drinks.

I tried Scott's at Port Edgar for my anniversary. I knew it would be pricey but must say I enjoyed it.

Scotts is lovely and is a nice treat every now and again. There's a place just round the corner called Down The Hatch. It's not much to look at but it does the most amazing burgers, toasties, dirty fries etc. Mouthwatering and messy!
