I thought he was dead for some reason.
Wonder if W will endorse Harris as well?

    Glad it wasn’t just me

Think I might have been conflating him with John McCain.

You're right. A complete unknown known on my part.

And it's known that he's no longer saying it. It was unknown until I Wiki'ed it just now.

Am I the only one now thinking of the scene from Extras where they discuss whether Ross Kemp was in Spandau Ballet?

I don’t really watch much news or politics but was just wondering who is most likely to win this election? Didn’t think Trump would be running for it again shows how much attention I pay to things.

I don’t think Trump can win and I’ve always thought that. Without a third party candidate he can’t get over 50%. He won’t go below 45% either.

Yeah seems very close. It usually is, they don't seem to get the landslides for each party that we do. Seems there is a middle that switches in the uk but not so much there?

Do get the impression Trumps core is stronger. Listened to the news agents podcast and they were indicating Trump had two thirds of white voters without university education

The American election is still up in the air as to who will win. I think we might have a better indication after tonight’s debate (21:00 EDT, 02:00 BST). An ex prosecutor debating a moron who spouts lies and conspiracy shouldn’t be a close run thing but this is America, so you never know. It’s officiated by ABC which should make for a better debate than the CNN one which was shockingly bad for all parties. Hoping that swing voters will watch and see Harris dismantle the orange flump.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Been in the US for almost 2 weeks and spoke to a few people over that time from various states and the polarisation is clear. Trump voters see Democrats as left wing liberals who are giving their future social security money to job shy immigrants. Harris voters see Trump as a deranged idiot. An independent was voting for Trump because he was better for the economy.

    It's an extremely divided place.

From afar, it seems so. To the woman who held that view it was simply down to her business doing better under Trump than it has been under Biden.

Hmm. Maybe so. I would suggest there's a significant difference between the performance of one woman's business and the performance of the economy as a whole. So she may be right that she's better off, but that isn't the same as the US economy doing better. I maintain that she was wrong, very wrong.

I think Trump has a ceiling of about 47%. He doesn’t have much chance of increasing his vote either. He is a known quantity and he is not even trying to grow his coalition. He needs to make sure he gets his vote out on the day.
Harris still has room to grow in that she is still relatively unknown even though she has been vice President. The debate will be important for her tonight. If she has a strong run in to the campaign it’s possible she goes above 50% of the vote.
And I still think that there is a majority who just don’t want Trump.

American economy has performed very well but they are mad about the inflation. Blaming global factors doesn’t work over there because they think they are the centre of the universe.
Interest rates will come down this month and inflation is dropping so hopefully that will have people looking to Harris.

In itself, this sentence encapsulates the madness of the US elections. How can 47% of US voters decide that Trump is who they want for President? It's nuts.

Just watched a snippet of channel 4 news on the election and holy **** they’re a different breed.

A woman who doesn’t want to be told what she can do with her body, who she has sex with and thinks Harris has the brainpower over trump…is voting trump.

I do like the way she wouldn’t stop eating her sandwich though.

I played golf in April with a well educated Hispanic descendant American up at St Andrews in April. He was going to do exactly the same for the same reasons. He is a college friend of my sons who I’ve known for a number of years. They’re both nearing their 40’s. I find it baffling.

People voting for what's in their own self interest is not limited to just the US.

I think the appropriate phrase is 'I'm alright, Jack'.

Watching this while waiting for the flight home.

Jesus, I didn't realise just how deranged Trump has become nowadays. The world is Donald ducked if they vote him in.

Be interesting to see if the polls move at all following the 'debate'
