For German food and alt beer, the brewery restaurants are a decent bet - uerige, schumacher, fuchschen.

    Schweine Janes for schnitzel

Koi sushi and Tokyo Ramen Taikeichi, self explanatory what they sell.

There's a place on the river promenade I like to sit on a wall, drink a schumacher alt and people watch - fortuna budchen. It's pretty much a kiosk selling drinks, hotdogs, sandwiches and you could not get more basic, but it's a nice setting and very budget friendly.
Schweine Janes is unreal, watching 50 pork knuckles spin on the spit is a beautiful sight

    Mini-China-Town Phở Düsseldorf cheap Vietnamese

Ham Ham bei Josef similar to Schweine Janes but quieter

Not food but drink Et Kabuffke Killepitsch sells a drink like jager but nice. You can have inside but if you want to impress friends don't tell them before hand just walk up to the hatch on the wall, knock and get some shots handed out. It goes back to the war when they were selling it in secret I believe

Maybe one for the Hammers/Hibs fans among us. Anyone know of any decent pie and mash, east london-y type places around Stratford? Also any pub recommendations within walking distance to the London Stadium would be appreciated

Went to Parillas in Musselburgh Argentinian grill. Lamb Steak was excellent. Worth a visit. 3 mains couple of glasses of wine for about 70 odd

We were down in Newcastle the past few days to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Shout out to Valley Junction in Jesmond (I had been before but my wife hadn’t). Great 7 course tasting menu- although they didn’t say what anything was which was strange, e.g. the first course was a soup of some sort. “This is soup”.

    “Oh thanks what is it?”
    “Soup”
“Ok but what kind of soup”
    “Soup”.

    Followed by
    “Here’s your next food”.

We worked most of it out but not great they couldn’t expand on anything.

Kin in Byker for brunch. Sister restaurant of Patina at Edinburgh Park. Fantastic but had the cheek when we asked for the bill to say “oh that’s a relief as we were about yep ask you to leave as we need the table back”… we had been in an hour and a half. We had been sat for 50 mins before anyone approached us for even a drinks order. Even worse as my wife has a business relationship with them.

Broad Chare - fab food and service.

We went on the open top bus tour. It pointed out a new tower block that has a bar/restaurant at the top. Loving that sort of thing, we booked for drinks. We arrived and the guy at reception seated us. Another staff member then (in earshot) said that “that’s not for them that’s for Hugo”. Guy then moved us to another table. For the next 5-10 mins the member of staff who said we couldn’t sit at the first table was agressively pointing at us to other staff and we heard “that’s not for people like them”. She then came and said “you shouldn’t have been sat here”. No apology. I said “oh maybe third table lucky” to which she rolled her eyes and mouthed “ffs”. She then said “this is where you need to sit” at a table of four in the restaurant area even though we booked for two for drinks only. 15 mins later (also with other staff pointing at us) someone approached us and asked “why are you sitting here? We didn’t sit you here”. We lost the plot and explained that we were indeed sat here by staff and that this was the third table we had been sat at. The woman was very apologetic to be fair and took our order (along with a “this table is really for food orders” jibe).

My wife’s drink came promptly. Mine about 5 mins later. Good view. Probably the most abysmal service I’ve ever encountered. Staff were rude beyond belief.

We kind of twigged that there was some influencer event going on that perhaps caused all of this - thanks to the business card of some twat “business development executive” that was on the first two tables we were sat at along with the fawning of “Hugo” who got our first table and was behind us in the lift. The guy couldn’t work out how to open a door!

Food highlight was brunch this morning at The Dispensary. Pancakes and fried chicken waffles were fab!

Not so much a restaurant trip but went to The Chocolatarium experience in Cranston Street yesterday.
Make your own chocolate and a tasting with matched wines.
    It was excellent.

Not a restaurant but we went to a vodka making/tasting tour at Olgivy farm in Forfar on Saturday. A really good day out, highly recommend the tour if vodka is something you are interested in.

We had an afternoon tea in The Stag in Forfar which was also excellent.

Agreed. Its pretty special. preferred the St.leonards location though.

If you like Aizle, Pine restaurant near Newcastle is similar (but better I think)

The location/setting was one of the things that made it special for me, so light and airy it felt really laid back.

Anyone tried Thamel on East London Street yet?

Heading out on Friday and quite fancied it. That site has been about a dozen different things in the last 5 years and never worked out long term so intrigued to see if these guys can make a success of it.

Not tried it but plenty of locals who are our customers have raved about it.

Thought Chop Chop had long gone but happened to notice a sign outside the pub Luckies in Gorgie that they were doing the food in there now. Went before the Kasabian gig last night. Food was excellent. Bit of a different vibe to before given it’s in a pub. Service was really good especially considering the guy was on his own serving behind the bar and serving the food due to staff illness I think he said.

Dhoom in Dunfermline is well worth a visit if you like Indian food. Went on Saturday with a mate, they do a ten course taster menu for £28, and it is superb. Each dish comes with a wee story behind it and the portions are perfectly sized that you're never thinking that you won't manage the next one. Service was really good as well.

Each course comes out to all the tables at the same time, and it's timed well enough that you're not rushed to finish nor are you sitting with an empty plate waiting. They have that down to a tee. You only have a choice of your main dish, but there's a good enough selection that there will be something for everyone.

Would definitely recommend it, and I'll be finding an excuse to go back soon!

Went to repurposed just reopened Shahi Grill in Juniper Green Saturday. Food was very good and a very decent menu to choose from. Service was very poor. Think they had a kitchen issue but getting there at 7 and not getting starters till 8 was a pain. It'll get another go tho....

Try San Ciros just down from Oregano, they are on par if not better imo
