Indeed, the fanboys of players who throw wee tantrums when someone dares to offer a different opinion, or god forbid praises a different player, are a cringey embarrassment to modern football. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
For what it's worth, no player has excited me like Maradona. Does that mean I write off Messi's achievements (or Ronaldo's for that matter)?. Of course not. I never saw Pele other than some clips on YouTube. So I can't comment on him or others like Cruyff, Best, Eusebio, Di Stefano etc. And as others have mentioned, it only ever seems to be attacking players who are mentioned in these debates.
Diego is my favourite ever footballer but I can still appreciate others and their astonishing achievements and statistics and the fact that many many people prefer them. Different players in different eras. That's it.

Scotland and England are in kind of similar situations when it comes to their managers... both have admirable records at getting as far as they have in recent years, both are particularly negative, and huge questions should be asked as to whether or not they're getting as much as possible out of the squads at their disposal.
Re England and arrogance - if I had a squad of players with that level of ability I'd be pretty bloody arrogant, I'd be expecting to win the tournament and expecting to win it playing well. It's a very vintage English problem though - struggling to accommodate all the best players into a cohesive team and massive loyalty to certain players who may no longer be the best option in their position. Some of the more peripheral players in the squad look to be more likely to fit into a strong, attacking team than some of the starters.
Scotland have many weak positions and a couple of strong ones whereas England - for such a strong squad overall - look to have a couple of real Achilles heels that they're yet to find an adequate solution for. That said, once more they're a bawhair off winning stuff so they're not far away.
A bit like Hibs and Jack Ross, they've got a dilemma - do they show loyalty to the guy who has a track record of getting them so close in the hope he just manages to push them that little bit further or do they gamble on a different approach? Tough one.

I think if England are wise they'd stick with Southgate for next tournament . Much the same as I think Scotland should stick with Clarke .
Potter is favourite for the England Job and I've seen quite a few had mentioned they'd like Mcinnes for the Scotland job .
My question is... Are either of these any better than they already have ? 🤔

I think Messi is the greatest ever, his longevity and the things he's won for me means it can't be anyone else.
I do think there is an argument that Ronaldo however, at his absolute peak, around 2011-2013 at Madrid was possibly the best ever player.

Having read and watched more about it since then, it's clear we were woefully underprepared when it came to knowledge of our opponents and the accommodation/training facilities etc were a shambles. Willie Johnston getting sent home for a failed drugs test just compounded the whole sorry saga.

Anyone can be free to think whoever they want, but in my opinion the longevity and what he's won means I can't see it being anyone but Lionel.

There’s arguments to and for almost every player.
Pele won 3 world cups, but played in a poor league. He scored an incredible amount of goals, and played in an era where he could be virtually maimed before a free kick was given, effectively kicked out of the World Cup in 1966. He also played in an era where the football world only got see anything of him every 4 years, so an aura builds up, and if he had a poor(er) season, it would go under the radar.
Messi has won 3 international tournaments, outside of the great Spain side circa 15 years ago, there’s very few who can claim to have done the same, and virtually none can claim to have been their country’s main man during that period. His record at club level is unsurpassed. He’s had the benefit of modern medicine and training, he’s also had to deal with an unprecedented level of scrutiny that only Ronaldo, tiger woods, Michael Jordan and lebron James can relate to. One other thing he’s had to cope with, up until 20 months or so ago, was perpetual negative comparisons to maradona.
And as we’ve seen, other people will favour maradona, some Ronaldo, or Ronaldo, or zidane, or Best, that’s the beauty of the discussion, there’s no definitely right answer

Done an incredible job. Hopefully disappears and enjoys a well earned rest.
Slightly worrying as England could attract someone good.
