England are the chosen ones, UEFA have ordained it. Destined to be the poorest team ever to win a major international trophy.
Greece in 2004 would run them close.

Anyone able to explain why the defender follows Watkins there and doesn’t let him drift offside?
Was thinking the same - silly to follow up so far behind the defensive line

I put £15 on them as compensation, just in case 😳
I put £20 on before the tournament started. Insurance bet.

Portugal won euro 2016 - finishing 3rd in group - not winning a group game and only beating Wales in normal time. Every other game was extra time.

Spain were great last night, but were a fair bit aided by France being rotten off the ball. Have a wee fear England will be the match of them in that sense, and pretty rare for a team to win every game at a tournament...

He definitely needs to block the shot

Greece as well basically defended their way to the trophy

Pleased for Southgate. He takes a stack of flack but his record is outstanding. Successive Euro finals is some achievement considering England hadn't been in a final since 66.

No problem with England winning either. I don't have an issue with them the way I do with Hearts. They seem a decent enough bunch and while I'm unlikely to watch the final I'd prefer them to win than Spain as I know how much it would mean to a lot of English friends and relatives.

I thought that the Dutch were absolutely awful - only Gakpo seemed to be their spark.

England haven’t played well or come up against a good team never mind an excellent team (like Spain) yet so it will be interesting to see how they cope with them.

Could be a decent final if England avoid being dull.

The irony here is England might play really well, have no luck and get gubbed.

You can't just let him run through and score unchallenged, was nowhere near offside

Holland were so so poor tonight, standing off and not pressing, allowing England freedom of the wide areas and playing narrow, I’m just surprised it was 1-1 for so long. Foden and Saka are class but if you play with lead boots and deep you get what you deserve - England deserved that tonight but were helped by an awful and negative Dutch side.

Bellingham after Zwayer didn't give an obvious penalty to Dortmund against Bayern causing the game to be halted and Zwayer to take a break from football in 2021

"Jude Bellingham made reference to the Zwayer affair, saying: "You give a referee that has match fixed before the biggest game in Germany, what do you expect?"

Nope, internationally England are like Hearts to me. Couldn’t abide them winning the Cup, etc either. They are our oldest local rivals.

Not to mention the media. The chunt fans. My mates down here. My wife jumping on the bandwagon.

    Couldn’t bear it.

England have best squad - i have no doubt in that. But in common with the top teams a lot of their top stars have looked knackered.

Along with how Var is being used (not the technology in its self) the amount of games the top players are being asked to play is ridiculous and leading to a poorer product. playing for 11 months of 50-65 games for some just leads to what we have seen often in these games.

won't change as money talks... and now with FIFA pushing its world club championship it will get even worse

That includes the euros, world cup, Copa America and afcon. I guess the Asia cup too.

So England wouldn't make the top 20 worst teams.

  22. #2751
The World Cup will always be the big one..

Winning the Euros would obviously be massive for England but the World Cup is different level especially outside England.

England men like the women’s team have invested huge amounts of money into the set up so wouldn’t be a total surprise.

Meanwhile Scotland are stuck with Che Adams who wouldn’t even get into England B team.

Scottish football will never fully progress till the SFA changes.

Next World Cup is even bigger = possibly more boring games as teams doing just enough to get into next rounds.

I can’t understand why the UEFA officials, corruptly, awarded that penalty to England, a country which doesn’t want to be a part of Europe. I could have understood it, but not agreed with it, if the shoe was on the other foot and they had awarded one like that to the Netherlands. In my opinion, it is one of the worst VAR decisions I have seen, in its short, controversial, corrupt existence. For some intangible reason, England’s name is already inscribed on the cup.

Yeh, international football doesn't do it for me these days (although I did quite enjoy watching the recent women's Euros and World Cup with my daughter) so I can't claim to have watched the games, but on paper I find it hard to see anything objectionable about the players or manager compared to England sides of yesteryear.

Was a penalty for me, no difference to one we got v Hearts when Hanlon nipped it off the Hearts strikers toes - was a very ill timed challenge with his foot up and nowhere near the ball.

Agree, where was the driven, determined side that beat the Turks ? What was the point ?

Saying that, have seen plenty 50/50 Hibs games where ridiculous key decisions have determined the flow and outcome.

yup good point that only adds to what I think.

I guess the way Pep rotates is one example of how to refresh a team - but he has expressed frustration many times saying players are human and the week in week out 2 games a week - tv scheduling like 12.30 away saturday etc just insane after midweek games that might have been away.

The first game in EPL is 16th August 4 1/2 weeks after Euros final

You and Ian Wright are the only two I've seen saying that. All other commentators are rightly saying it's a joke. The shot is taken kane follows through. As a defender you'd just have to step out the way if someone is shooting just in case they follow through and kick you. Well played Nevil calling it a disgrace
