Spain should be 2 or 3 up here, they look very good.

He was but his goals per game is less than Kane at both domestic and international level.

Kane has also went abroad and scored 44 goals in his first season for Bayern.

Shearer was a good player without a doubt but I get the impression he thinks he was better than he actually was.
He’s the top goalscorer of all time in the EPL.

    Alan Shearer was world class.

Not been watching the games but well below par as it sounds England were I heard on the radio report that Kane's now scored 64 goals in 92 England appearances. That's truly phenomenal.

Shearer was a great striker no question tho.

    Terrible from the defender

Edit - Keeper got a touch actually so not much he could’ve done there

I’m loving this game . Spain doing everything but score them going ahead curtesy of an Italian own goal.

He's all time top goalscorer due to his number of games he played. The English league was also not anywhere near the standard it is now when he played.

IMO he'd not even make the top 5 forward to have played in the EPL.

Saying that I agree he was probably close to world class at his peak.

He never done anything of note on the European or international stage though and that has to be taken into account.

Incredible to me that this 16 year old has so much football intelligence to play in this obviously complex Spanish system. Hes basically a wide right midfielder but expected to cut inside to create a numerical advantage?

What a strike, this Williams is no Alan O Brien.

Neco Williams is probably the best ever Welshman to play left wing for Spain.

Fat Sally’s right about the increase in the number of substitutions benefiting the bigger, richer teams.

Loved watching Spain tonight, I put a few bob on them before the tournament and I'm quite confident.

They looked excellent tonight. If they were more clinical it could have got ugly for the Italians

Spain have certainly been the most impressive so far, 2 excellent results so far.

Means nothing though - and there are some good sides who haven’t really got fully into their stride yet, England amongst them - they’ll be dangerous.

This has been a superb tournament, I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I watch little elite football these days so there are players I haven’t even heard of. It’s freshened the tournament up for me, instead of being a bit jaded with football it’s like the 80s when the only time I ever saw these players is at a big tournament.

So much football to like up to now, long may it continue.

They look frightening with the ball and they win it back so quickly when they lose it. So good to watch

, that is the most laughable thing I've ever read.

    Kane couldn't lace his boots.

Are Spain maybe lacking a clinical edge going by that tonight though ?

If you look at strikers across the board then I'd also say he's not in the top 5 to have played in the EPL.

Been missing one for years, that's why they've struggled (by their standards).

Kane is better than Shearer was, both are/were world class. They've both scored an almost identical amount of goals and Kane is only 30.

If we're talking about ability as a footballer in general and not just as a striker then Kane is quite a bit better.

    Klinsman Henri Bergkamp RVN Ageuro.

But of course football existed before 1992 as well Lots of better strikers than Shearer, id imagine he’s floating about between 5th and 10th. Hes only just crept into the top 3 Newcastle strikers

No they're not. Potentially, they're capable of beating any team in the world. They destroyed Scotland at a canter and will still go far in this tournament. Great players, questionable management.
I think it’s somewhere in the middle, not as great as folk make out players and not quite as bad a manager. Spain, Germany and France simply have better also. If England get a path avoids them they could maybe get to the semi’s.

There's no denying Kane is a world class striker though imo Shearer was a better all round Striker . Then again I am biased on this matter too 😉

The fantastic summer of football continues tonight with the start of the Copa America.

Argentina are obvious favourites, Brazil should be there or thereabouts despite being a bit of mess by their standards, Uruguay have an outside chance, and my dark horses are Colombia - unbeaten in 23 games, a run which includes wins against Spain, Germany and Brazil.
