I watched D-Day: The Unheard Tapes on BBC2 last night.

It is simply brilliant. In an age when WWII is often weaponised for political gain it was a poignant reminder of what a generation of young men went through.

One of those shows that serves as a reminder that when the BBC gets it right they are hard to beat.

Ooft. I persevered with The Pacific until episode 3, despite the average reviews, as i loved Band ofBrothers. My god it’s terrible. I thought the criticism was generous, to be honest.

Band of brothers is my favourite show of all time, I watch it once a year, I watched the Pacific when it first came out and thought it was decent, I've since tried to rewatch it on numerous occasions and stop two episodes in every time, just can't get into it at all now

I thought that it was decent enough, it's never going to compare favourably to Band of Brothers though.

I think BoB struck gold with a few of the actors, some unknown at the time, who were really talented. I just never got engaged with any of the characters in this one. And everything else right down to the music was just a bad cover version of the original.

I thought the Pacific was really slow to begin with and nothing compared to BoB, but having watched it through a few times I think it's fantastic.

It really captures the brutality of the Pacific war in a way that - IMO - BoB didn't quite capture with the European theatre. I know theres horrific injuries depicted in BoB, but it felt a bit softer than Saving Private Ryan and the Pacific.

And the theme music man, gives me chills every time I hear it.

    Even the titles?

I cant say i noticed, titles aren’t important to me. I thought all the key stuff was absolutely rotten to the point where episode 3 held no interest at all. Persevering with shows i just dont like the first time never seems to work for me, i was bullied into attempting Game of Thrones three times, despite thinking i should like it, its just not for me.

Think Band of Brothers set the bar too high for anything to follow. Still think The Pacific is very good myself having watched it again earlier this year, and really enjoyed Masters of the Air.

For me BoB is so good because it's such a fantastic true story. A group of men who'd never met, all volunteers, who went through training and then all the way to the end together. Amazing.

Fair enough. Ep 3 was a lot slower but it's part of the wider story.

We binged the first three episodes yesterday. I dare say the last three will get finished tonight. Excellent so far.

It's certainly not a cheery watch but, it's a brilliant programme. The cast is tremendous.

Anyone watched Hijack? The wife and I binged it over the weekend

Maybe not rush to stick it on if you're flying anytime soon but it's a very good watch. Pretty intense!

Starring idris Elba and Rod from The Football Factory
