I might be wrong but I don't think Butcher did it as publicly as Adams did. I don't think it was ever a "the whole squad is really poor, every player needs replaced, in fact every player in the league is mince" type thing to the media with Butcher. More of a "there will be players getting moved on" type thing and individuals told privately and/or dropped.

Adams is just a very strange individual. The fact Hibs paired him with another strange individual in Calderwood will never cease to bewilder me. I think one of Butcher's problems was his over reliance on another strange guy in Malpas. He just came across as one of these folk that revels in being a dick to people. Adams does too.

For all Butcher (quite rightly) gets stick for our implosion that season and eventual relegation, I don't dislike him as much as Calderwood. With Butcher, I always got the impression he wanted to be here. He knew the sort of position Hibs should be in and wanted to be a success. It was just that he was crap and went about things the wrong way. Calderwood was just disrespectful towards us from day 1. Clearly didn't want to be here in the first place and was constantly working his ticket out of the club.

I also thought Butcher was a good appointment at the time. I thought he would motivate the players and toughen us up as a team. It’s possibly the most wrong I’ve ever been about anything, and I will never forgive him for relegating a team that was safe when he arrived. Tory ****.

Not sure Hibs paired them together? From what I recall, Calderwood asked to have Adams on board because of his knowledge of Scottish football. Not for the first time though I could be completely wrong.

I know from folk who've worked with Malpas that he was the dinosaurs dinosaur. Butcher was the good cop!

Malpas wasn't really bad cop, more of an unhinged, very sweary sergeant major type. Straight out the Wee Jim Motivational book of Coaching. Don't think he can get a gig anymore. His own managerial career was horrific. Great players rarely make great coaches.
