That's funny, but it also makes a good point about the power in the EPL.

    Bullying isn't passion.

Referees make mistakes, of course. They make decisions on what they see and sometimes they don't see an incident properly. Most of the time, however, it's the players who are wrong. How often have we seen players crowding a referee when he's correctly awarded a penalty or sent someone off etc etc.

Bullying is about scaring the referee into giving the bullies favourable decisions. That's wrong.

I'll be delighted if the rule about only the captain approaching the referee comes into force. Hopefully it won't spoil your enjoyment of the game too much.
The players do it out of passion. Not out of bullying.

The idea that referees are getting ‘bullied’ is just silly imo.

I’d hate to see the day when we get a penalty against us that’s never a penalty and the players all have to stand there and say yes sir, no problem sir.

Shouting in someone's face can't be described as anything other than bullying and I've listed examples of when it has been used as a deliberate tactic.

You think it's acceptable, I never have. No point arguing about it.

You’re using societal norms and applying them to sport. Expecting sport, with all the passion that goes along with it, to have the same behavioural standards as day to day life is stupid and every sport would fall short if that’s the standards we’re applying, rugby included.

What's the point shouting at the ref though? He's going to wait for VARs verdict anyway and they can't shout at that.

Again, you are completely discounting the fact that sport is a passionate endeavour.

What’s the point in players celebrating? Nothing is gained from it.

What’s the point in players shouting at each other after a mistake? It won’t change it.

No one is saying that and it's daft to suggest they are - it's the screaming abuse that's the problem.

Anyway, I doubt we are going to agree so I'm out.

Dont think ive ever seen players...in numbers....scream in a team mates face for making a mistake that may or may not have cost them a result. So why refs?. Sure he screwed up but the reaction is totally OTT. The picture of Haaland...he looks deranged. No one should have to put up with that in their workplace...no one.

What would be so wrong about football players being more like rugby players in terms of their conduct?
"...when Hibs won the Scottish Cup final and that celebration, Sunshine on Leith? I don’t think there’s a better football celebration ever in the game.”

Exactly, I said earlier that in any situation anywhere it's gross misconduct and a sackable offence. That football alone is exempt from that is a gross failure by the football authorities.

Crunchie brought up diving, so that’s what the conversation became.

Why should anyone have to put up with completely inept or potentially even corrupt referees ruining games, costing clubs millions and players potential shots at glory?

It’s sport, there’s shouting and swearing and passion. It’s not admin work at Bank of Scotland.
Clearly you’ve never worked at Bank of Scotland.

Rugby players don’t do it because they know they’d be off the park for 10 minutes if they did. Nothing to do with them all being gentlemen.

Incidentally If Haaland hadn’t ’ t missed an open goal there would have been no need for the histrionics and there was no guarantee that Grealish would have scored anyway-hisform has been poor.

You’ve never seen players in any other sport shout at a referee? If that’s the case I can only assume you never watch any other sport.

I’ve seen boxers going mental at a referee

I’ve seen MMA fighters going mental at a referee

I’ve seen tennis players shout at umpires - https://youtu.be/OHjflYniuvo?si=tuCMkG01jCkwNCww

we’ve all seen John McEnroe do it

I’ve seen basketball players going tonto at referees https://youtu.be/4HbfzasgI68?si=aBrtE8Sgq0z-57ca

It’s become the done thing to pretend football is the only support with these sort of things happening. In reality though, it’s nonsense, much like the idea that rugby players don’t cheat is also nonsense.

You can want certain rules put in place all you want. Pretending they should be put in place because it’s only football that has situations like this arise though is utter rubbish.

The reactions not over the top at all, it was an absolute horror decision that you could be forgiven for questioning whether the ref was cheating. That decision could be the difference between Man City winning the league or not, it could cost the club tens of millions of pounds.

‘Their workplace’ is a sporting environment. Using societal norms when it comes to sport is just daft. Next you’ll be telling us players shouldn’t celebrate winning because nobody should have failures rubbed in their face in the workplace.

You think draws are fixed in Scotland

Manchester United's record-breaking run of 12 home domestic cup draws has finally come to an end.

They will take on Wigan at the DW Stadium in the FA Cup third round - their first away tie in THREE years.

and after Leeds were drawn away to Peterborough that's a new FA cup record of 13 straight away ties

odds for that happening were 1/8192

wish i had stuck at least 25p on that happening
