Referees like mike dean are far more arrogant and self entitled than any player I've seen.
Football isn't like another job so pointless comparing.

You think draws are fixed in Scotland 😁
Manchester United's record-breaking run of 12 home domestic cup draws has finally come to an end.
They will take on Wigan at the DW Stadium in the FA Cup third round - their first away tie in THREE years.Cougars!!!

I think refs are currently dreadful and ruining so many matches. I don't really feel that strongly about stopping players crowding them. The likes of Craig Napier deserve it for consistently crap performance.

How about you actually put your big boy pants on and discuss the topic, rather than posting pish like that?

Man City will pay a cost for their players actions and rightly so.

Football isn’t rugby. Rugby players also go up the town and play soggy biscuit after a spiffing good game, should football players do that as well?
I’d much rather see footballers with passion take a referee to task for making a horrendous mistake than watch rugby players be banned from speaking to the referee as if they’re not important enough.
As MWHibees has said, some of these decisions are incomprehensible. They’re absolutely atrocious. Expecting to be able to perform so badly but get no blowback from it is just daft.Last edited by Paulie Walnuts; 05-12-2023 at 08:59 AM.

Footballers at the highest level have become in the main overpaid prima donnas as it is and you want them acting up even more? Now that's what I call daft.

Overall though, rugby has its house in order here whereas VAR has all but ruined football. In fact I probably watch more rugby than football these days.
Those suggesting players give the refs more grief are well off the mark. One of the reasons my kids drifted away from football was the appalling behaviour from ignorant parents and coaches on the touchline who would try to referee the games themselves. It really is embarrassing seeing kids being brought up to believe it's OK to give the ref such levels of abuse. Anyone who gives up their time to referee games at a lower level is clearly doing so solely for the love of the game. I'd never consider it myself due to the absurd and unwarranted flak so many have to endure.

I’ve also never seen a football player go to the lengths of taking a fake blood capsule onto the pitch to feign an injury.
Those pesky footballers, they’ve no shame compared to the big manly rugby players who would absolutely never seek to gain a competitive advantage over their opponents. And dont get me started on the way they talk to the sir.Last edited by Paulie Walnuts; 05-12-2023 at 11:52 AM.

A system where a referee was given a yellow card for obviously poor and corrupt decisions and fined after, say, five incidents, the quality of refereeing would improve. I know this sounds a bit of a flight of fantasy and will never happen, but the underlying pemise is sound in my opinion.Last edited by Jim44; 05-12-2023 at 10:26 AM.

And whilst the blood capsule scandal was 14 years ago, it was proven to have happened on numerous occasions.
The idea that rugby is just a bunch of honest gentleman playing the game is utter nonsense.Last edited by Paulie Walnuts; 05-12-2023 at 03:37 PM.

Chelsea were guilty of systematically intimidating referees in Mourinho's time there. John Terry was almost thuggish doing it.
Mascherano was terrible for it at Liverpool. It was disgusting.
Rangers intimidate referees on the pitch and by writing complaints when anything goes against them.
Has a referee ever changed a decision because he was getting shouted at? No, so why do it? It's bullying behaviour to scare them away from future decisions against them.
All these actions are deliberate, and the fact that rangers haven't had penalties given against them is explained in part by this behaviour.
I'm amazed anysupporters condone this bullying. It only ever helps the most powerful of clubs, but more to the point, referees are human beings and they shouldn't have to endure anyone screaming in their face at anytime, never mind at their work.
How Haaland wasn't sent off or at least booked speaks volumes about where the power lies.

Why should anyone have to put up with completely inept or potentially even corrupt referees ruining games, costing clubs millions and players potential shots at glory?
It’s sport, there’s shouting and swearing and passion. It’s not admin work at Bank of Scotland.

I also can't think of any situation where a referee has changed their mind as the result of a player screaming abuse at them.
If there's concern about the standard of officiating, the solution is off the field, not on it.

Referees make mistakes, of course. They make decisions on what they see and sometimes they don't see an incident properly. Most of the time, however, it's the players who are wrong. How often have we seen players crowding a referee when he's correctly awarded a penalty or sent someone off etc etc.
Bullying is about scaring the referee into giving the bullies favourable decisions. That's wrong.
I'll be delighted if the rule about only the captain approaching the referee comes into force. Hopefully it won't spoil your enjoyment of the game too much.
