The David Gray testimonial committee have offered to match the number of tickets donated to Robbie at Street Soccer Scotland for next weekend.

If you can, it’d be great to get lots of local families along to the game at Easter Road.

£10 per ticket, with every donated ticket being matched by the folks behind the testimonial - a fantastic gesture.

Tickets can be purchased via the club ticketing site, and donated tickets can be sent by forwarding the Print at Home email to [email protected].
    Hi Daniel

I've bought 2 tickets and tried to email them to Robbie but its bounced back.
Can you confirm the email address please. I left the dot after org out but I'm wondering if uk should follow org.
    Thanks

Forget that Daniel. I've sent it from another email address and seems to have been delivered this time okay....

A lot of boys and girls play club football on a Sunday who won’t be able to go as well as the parents .
I suppose it's then a close call on what's more important? Celebrating SDG or watching a child play a stupid little meaningless match.

We all know the right answer.

I am of course obviously joking! There isn't a close call.

If we can't thank him, who do we thank?

Really hope folk give him a turn out.
Just looked at the ticket sales when purchasing tickets and cannot believe how poor the sales look. Disappointing.

It is another expensive month with Tynecastle Ibrox Celtic coming and semi final tickets to purchase.
It is what it is a friendly game. Hope SDG enjoys it. You would maybe get a better turn out by tagging it onto a decent pre-season game to get more of a crowd in.

Did Robbie get them ok? I forwarded my tickets to his email and it went to his spam folder for some reason.

Must be missing something. I don't see anything about this game on the official site. Anyone got a link to info, tickets, etc.

It’s also the October holidays for schools. I would have been at the game with my son but we’re away for the weekend.

I think it’s predominantly just down to a lack of interest in the event itself.

I’m going because it’s for the guy who scored the winning goal in the Scottish Cup Final but I can’t say the actual game holds much appeal. They’ve only got 12 players listed for Hibs and one is the current manager and one is on the run from the Polis! It’s not really been pushed at all but I think it’ll be a real shame if there isn’t a decent turnout.

I hope there's a wee flurry of ticket sales as the game gets closer, if anyone deserves a decent turn out its SDG. He joined the club at one of it's lowest points and led the club to one of its highest.

That's where I am too, my old man received an extremely uplifting phonecall from the man himself at the start of lockdown just after my mum passed away, 6 purchased, it's the least we can do.

I'm kind of torn on testimonials now, guy at work made a fair point and isn't going as he reckons testimonials are out dated now and used to be for guys who hadn't earned that much money in their careers and I couldn't really disagree, but he scored the winner in the Scottish Cup final, unfortunately I'm on holiday so can't go but would likely have been therr

Does the money actually go to the player these days, or does it go to charity?

Yes 11:30 , 6 of us going to Pioneers , got the tickets delivered end of last week .
Don’t know if it’s an age thing, 2 of our group are in there sixties , 1 in there seventies and 2 in there eighties . No way was anyone going to miss this game and we decided to push the boat out .
David Gray and the team that day gave us what not even the guys in the 80’s dad’s got to see was Hibs winning the Scottish Cup.
Disappointing ticket sales hopefully they will pick up before Sunday
Very young at my 1st Scottish Cup final in 1972 , was 18 in 1979 if anybody had said to me you would have to wait 37 years to see us win the cup would have laughed at them.
Hopefully the young team will not have to wait as long .

I can't make my mind up whether to go. Firstly he hasn't been here 10 years and wasn't a player for a huge amount of time. Secondly I don't really agree with testimonials unless it is a player or manager who has served in the same role for over a decade. I'll see what the weather is like and what else crops up but I have no plans to attend at the moment and if I did it would all be about that moment and not his full tenure which is not deserving of a testimonial imo. Will Daz get one next year if he is still here

I get that testimonials divide attention and some folk wouldn't dream of attending a run of the mill one, but I can't get on board at all questioning whether he deserves one.

It wasn't just the goal, his last ten minutes were near superhuman. If you want to make it about more than just that day, he's stepped in as manager to hold it together through countless shambles, captained us, scored several key goals...

We're also nitpicking over one year, as summer 2024 will mark ten years at the club. He retired without a proper send off as well, and never got one last ovation.

Folk probably right say the cup final has been and gone, but this marks a good last chance to draw a line under the whole thing bar the future 10/25 year anniversaries and what not. Any Hibs legend deserves a testimonial, and I really can't see why David Gray of all people would be begrudged one.

I done really agree with testimonials either but £10 for a guy who scored the most important goal in our history is nothing.

Ticket sales speak for themselves about interest in this one and what people think about the testimonial I'd say.

Similar level of interest in the Ian Murray one too which was the same in terms of not really fitting the typical testimonial.

If people want to compare the lasting effect that Ian Murray has made on Hibs to how David Gray's helped shape the club over the last decade, then I'd be as well sitting this one out.

  28. #177
I won't be going to the game as I can't get any childcare. I did buy a ticket to be given away though and attended the dinner so feel I have done my bit.

I am quite surprised at the disinterest/apathy from most of my Hibs supporting mates though. Very few seem to have any interest at all and looking at the seating map it seems it's not an isolated viewpoint.

Hopefully there will be a late flurry in sales with people at a loss for something to do at the weekend. I do think it would have sold better had the game been on a Saturday. Sundays always seem a bit flatter even for competitive games.

Is that what you took from my post? I was comparing the loose definition/eligibility of a testimonial in both Murray and Gray. Crowd size will be in the same ballpark too.

I was making no comment on either's time at Hibs.

That could've been construed by the similarly 'untypical testimonial' to be fair. Gray deserves whatever honour Hibs can realistically award him, Murray didn't.

Folk have their views, that's fine and realise the empty seats will go against what I'm arguing. I'm just genuinely taken back there's an undercurrent of 'how's David Gray getting a testimonial', and thought it would be akin to one last bit 2016 party.

I will end up going as I don't have anything else on this weekend, think a few of my pals are in the same boat, so should be a few more tickets sold as the week goes on
