It is a shame. One of the positives if one can take any is that it should see a lot of his material reshown.I think his strength was in enabling others to shine in the interview format. He is of course well known for Ali and Billy Connnolly, and maybe Peter Kay in later years but some of his seventies stuff with the likes of Peter Ustinov or stuff with Brian Blessed is timeless.
It's the 70s stuff that sticks with me most, me watching Sportscene as a kid and my parents watching Parkinson. It was a time when movie stars somehow seemed much bigger - and plenty of the guests used to smoke during interviews!
