People think all these things are ok.

Young lad still living at home who wants to join the army thinks Sunak has his head screwed on.

Show some respect. Where is your patriotism? He's the Earl of Mintos. All we need is the Duke of Toblerone, Baron Von Marsbar and Viscount Viscounts for us to really (checks notes) "deliver for the British people".

Mark Littlewood, the boss of the right wing think tank the Institute of Economic Affairs is one of Truss’s four nominations for the slightly shiny hat. I’ve actually met the guy about twenty years ago and did some work with him when he was an extremely pro European Lib Dem, now from what I’m reading he seems to be a rabid Europhobe and is clearly getting a peerage as a kickback for the work he did as a lobbyist and with the deep referendum analytics that showed the Leave campaigns their attack lines. Now parachuted in to play a role in our democratic process. Nominated by a PM who almost ****ed the country in less than 50 days and is widely regarded as a joke and a disgrace.

When you think deeply about this appointment and others, the only conclusion is that the way the British state works is so fundamentally corrupt that until this changes there is no prospect of genuine democracy in the pure sense of the word.

It's a grift. Pure and simple. The dumbing down of sections of the populace bearing fruit.

Yep, I supported Labour because im committed to wealth redistribution and a fairer society. I’m not really interested in what spatial geographic level these things are achieved, it’s a secondary issue and I’ll vote on the Independence question based on where we are culturally and politically at that moment in time I suppose.

I moved away from Scotland before there was a Scottish parliament, and returned in 2010, and when I got engaged in politics up here I found that many in Labour were focusing their guns on the Nats more than I thought prudent or logical. It had become more tribal in my absence. When I was engaged in politics in the early 90s in Scotland, the Tories were the common enemy. Maybe that’s why I feel as if the Labour Party and automatic devotion to unionism (in the national sense) isn’t an inevitable natural state.

To be fair the quality of elected MPs to choose from is pretty dismal.

Watching Dominic Raab's pan getting redder by the second on GMTV as he's questioned. Not through embarrassment.

Interesting PMQs. Rayner up first, stumbles on her delivery but came across as incisive if a bit nervous. Raab more assured in his delivery but the actual substance coming out of his mouth was ill conceived. Blaming the delay of rape cases making it to court merely on Covid looked particularly bad. Probably needs a lie down after his hammering in the tv studios earlier. It’s still weird seeing shriveled up little Jambo Ian Murray on the opposition front bench next to the grownups.

perfectly understandable an individual who donates to a far-right political party in Germany should also donate to a far-right political party in Britain

This might be one worth keeping an eye on, to see what emerges

    https://www.theguardian.com/society/...fits-sanctions

Early sense is that the U.K. government’s own research will say that benefit sanctions don’t work and usually made things worse.

Saying that, I’m sure research could establish that about most if not all of this UKG’s policies...

It's not working usually = double down. Then say they aren't communicating the message clearly enough or some other such gaslighting.

Tou will love this one then, from one of the loyal lieutenants in the Rishbunker. Seemingly the best way to stop migration is to behave just like a people-smuggling gang.

I saw Jenrick on TV a few weeks ago. Whilst he looks perfectly affable, 99% of what he said was a cold soup of dog whistles, manufactured moral panics and croutons of loathsome bile.
